How to Design Impenetrable Airport Security

Stormsinger says...

At $667M per life, I suspect it would be vastly cheaper to fix our broken society, especially when you consider that those dollars only protect this one small facet of life. There are dozens or hundreds of other areas that are at least as vulnerable and hard-to-protect as airports.

Of course, the masters of the universe would have to agree to it, and it's not likely that they'd agree to funding anything that primarily benefits the peons.

I was really hoping this video was secretly about how fixing your broken society made airport security unnecessary in the first place.

Hydrogen - the Fuel of the Future?

Stormsinger says...

I've always found it annoying when people refer to hydrogen as a new "fuel", especially when they're referring to hydrogen produced by electrolysis. Using electrolysis means that the theoretical limits are that you can get as much energy -out- of burning hydrogen as you put into splitting the water. The traditional meaning of fuel is the exact opposite, that you can get more energy out of combustion than you have to put into creating the fuel.

TLDR - Hydrogen is an energy storage technology, not a fuel. It competes against batteries, not against carbon fuels.

Zuckerburg Talks About Sharing...

Stormsinger says...

I'm still trying to understand why some people think his appearance in front of these committees is meaningful in any way. Not one of these congresscritters is going to even consider doing anything like imposing an actual penalty on the guy who provides them with such healthy contributions. It's nothing but a bit of theater to distract the masses until it blows over.

The Diversity of Local Independent News

For the sake of your sanity (or at least your faith in humanity), don't read the YT comments... The nazis are out in force, which I'm sure makes Sinclair happy as larks.

Crab Carrying Jellyfish for Camouflage

How to get inside!

Stormsinger says...

I really don't understand this new fad...it's just like the one of posting videos of still images. The only potential explanation I've come up with is a conspiracy by the wireless providers to ramp up their overage fees.

Cool, but I don't quite get these videos that are just the same 5 seconds looped 3 times. I got it the first time.

South African Parliament Votes Take White Stolen Farm Land

Stormsinger says...

You can find whackjobs racists anywhere, and Bob's -always- up for fanning the race wars.

If you want to be "fair", remember how recent Apartheid was ended in South Africa. It was only officially ended a bit over twenty years ago. IOW, almost all voters in South Africa lived under it, and personally remember the oppression (which was as bad or worse than -anything- we experienced in the US). I think a certain degree of bitterness and retaliation is easy enough to understand.

What is porous asphalt and how does it work?

Stormsinger says...

A minor point...porous asphalt is only briefly mentioned. The video spends some 90%+ of its time explaining porous concrete, which except for the embedded plastic is a fairly obvious concept. I still have no idea how porous asphalt could work...I'd think the tar would make it pretty watertight.
