Keith Richards, in his autobiography, talks about Mick's amazing moves. He says that, in their early days, the stages the Stones played on were so tiny that Mick had to get really imaginative about stage use while still keeping the crowd excited. Becoming the master of the space around him gave him the moves that would define him, even after their stages got larger and larger.

I realize you're being facetious, so don't take this as criticism (I completely agree with the sentiment: flair bartending doesn't really impress me as a useful thing for a bar.)

Your comment got me thinking and I find it really interesting in the different views people have regarding speed when it comes to service in bars or restaurants.

I've seen plenty of Germans send a beer back to the bar for taking less than a minute. From their point of view a beer can't be properly poured in that time. Counter to that, many North Americans would consider a few minutes wait for their drink to be bad service.

Likewise, many of my Canadian and American friends would consider a restaurant to have bad service if you have to signal the waiter to come to your table, or if things take longer than they are used to, while waiters in places like the Czech Republic, Cyprus or Greece will almost never come to your table without a signal and most people expect to spend a few hours at the restaurant.

I think it's fascinating how our environment changes our views on this and how many little problems can be caused by ignored cultural differences.>> ^Gilsun:

I have to agree with @spoco2 and @messenger.

It seems to me that if someone wants to portray an ignorant person, the simplest way is to speak with an accent like the woman in the video. The accent is social shorthand for stupid. Does that mean all people with a southern accent are stupid? Of course not, but I can completely understand the need/desire to hear someone with an accent like that saying something intelligent to counteract the brain's tendency to make that association.

For me personally, I met a guy a few months ago with a thick southern accent and I noticed that right away I made that kind of association regardless of the fact that he was obviously a smart guy. It often takes time and a number of counterexamples before we can get over certain stereotypes and I applaud Spoco for recognizing the shortcoming and aiming to fix it.

Somewhat clever commercial, but considering Norton is almost a virus in itself...

@GenjiKilpatrick, I'm not "trying to dismiss the border patrol's blatant abuse of power" because frankly I'm not sure there was an abuse of power to dismiss. All we have to go on is the word of some radical anti-government conspiracy theorists - not exactly neutral and unbiased witnesses when it comes to government abuse.

I don't trust these girls to wipe their own asses (TP is probably a fascist plot to control our bodily functions, don't you know) let alone provide accurate testimony regarding anything the government does.

I'd like to hear the border patrol's version of these events. About 300,000 people cross the US/Canada border every day, there isn't enough time or manpower to search and interrogate people without a reason.

While I don't doubt that harassment happens at the border, something is fishy about their story. It doesn't help their cause that they are the type of people warning about chemtrails and other retarded conspiracy theories.
