Something went terribly wrong with this ship's controls
ouch.
When that metal portion of the ladder going from the pier into the water, starts scratching the side of the ship, it was hard to watch. Such a beautiful vessel in such a beautiful color.

Getting the most out of factory downtime
Had buddy who was a chemical engineer with a petroleum background---After the British Petroleum blow out in the Gulf, he told me that he knew it was going to happen; that it was always going to happen--because BP had always underspent on maintenance. He explained it like owning a boat. If you aren't spending 10% of the cost of the boat on maintaining it every year, you're doing it wrong. That includes maintenance, downtime, and prevention/OSHA/Worker safety.

The Martian Hexadecimal Scene
Ah!
Here's the explanation: "Dare Mighty Things"--the motto of the JPL team--and the outer ring of the parachute is the long/lat of JPL.

Is this the solution to the message in the parachute?
The Martian Hexadecimal Scene
Wow. That would be cool. And no risk of mission inhibiting issues like the morse code in Curiosity's wheels which has led to premature fatigue.
Is this the solution to the message in the parachute?
Larnell Lewis Hears "Enter Sandman" For The First Time
To watch someone who really understands their craft--whatever that craft is--and is this case, it's percussion---it's really enjoyable if somewhat befuddling.
The Insane Engineering of the Perseverance Rover
Such a happy nerd day today. Was in a small meeting outside and had this marked in my calendar--after 3.5 hours of talking, suddenly stood up and said we all had to go to a wide screen; masked up and got it up and running 6 minutes before. So many happy nerdy people! So exciting!
RC Ornithopter "Serenity"
Dune? the Orthinopters? (sp)--very cool...
ENZED UIM 2016 Jetsprint WORLDS ACTION
So, at 3:40---what precisely is the course? It's not an oval, it's not a figure 8--what is it?
I am not Cat
Also, in honor of the singer Doja Cat:

Louis opens new Macbook Air, immediately loses mind.
Yah--he just wants to complain. If you open your attic window and the front door on a windy day---the house will ventilate. Air will move past...stuff in the house.
Lots of laptops around my house; the Apple stuff gives us the least problems.
Perfect? nope. But...still good enough.
In an enclosed space like a compact laptop (MacBook Air) you don't need the fan anywhere near the heatsink. Think about a long tube; you can put the fan anywhere in it and the total airflow will be about the same. I'm a bit surprised someone experienced with laptops doesn't know this?
It seems more like he just wanted to rail against Apple products. I've been there, but my rant is usually about the quality control of their hardware.
I am not Cat
The story, as I understand it, behind it is interesting; it was an old back up Dell Laptop --like 9 years old--that had this installed on it. Normally, he uses his desktop; that was in use. His admin asst set up the old laptop for the meeting and...this cat filter was active. lol.
The flight that almost killed me
What I learned about flying from that...(Flying Magazine)--many, many terrifying near-miss moments.
"I Made a Gun that Punches through ANYTHING"
Excellent way to ruin a barrel and the bedding of the barrel and the stock lol...
