Mother brings "dead" baby back to life with a cuddle

Kestrel says...

I've heard of biting, but I've never heard of anyone being made a zombie from hugging. Look at that face closely, everyone... that's our new undead overlord.

Seriously, though... that's pretty amazing. Upvote!

Amateur Video Of Gulf Oil Slick - Worse Than BP Admits

Kestrel says...

"We can't stop this. There's no way to prevent this from hitting our shorelines. The best I think we can do is minimize the impact, learn from our mistakes. We have to have fuel, we have to have gasoline. The price we're paying now is far too expensive. Safety measures that could have prevented this were not in place. It's time for our government to step up to the plate and take responsibility for what's happening on the shores of our country."

I couldn't agree more with this guy's statement. "Drill, Baby, Drill" isn't the right attitude, because then stuff like this happens. But stopping all offshore drilling isn't a good solution, either, since we're still highly dependent on liquid hydrocarbon fuels.

We need to get serious on our energy policy. Drilling had to go on, but we also need more funding/subsidizing of alternative energy sources and more stringent safety measures and auditing. If that means an extra dollar or two per gallon, so be it. In my book, we either do it right, or we don't do it at all.

Molten Aluminum + Lab Techs = Fail

Kestrel says...

It looks to me like as he's filling it, the molten aluminum covers a pocket in the mold, creating an air bubble surrounded by the molten aluminum. The air bubble rapidly heats up and pops.

The metallic sound is harder to explain, but if any of the aluminum had solidified near the air bubble when it popped, that would make a metallic "ping."

That's my guess, anyway.

Evolution IS a Blind Watchmaker

Kestrel says...

To the ID proponents: this is NOT showing intelligent design, unless by intelligent design you mean "chance."

If it better suits you, you COULD say that this simulation is an analogy to a situation like this: God created a colony of 10,000 bacteria with simplistic DNA, and let them be. This is not directly refuting the existence of God or the creationist view of life, but it DOES show that life can evolve from simple to complex, from pendulums to clocks, from bacteria to humans. And life can do this without an invisible, supernatural, or intelligent hand guiding its way.

Transformers Clip - Optimus Prime vs. Bonecrusher

Kestrel says...

"The proportions are all over the place."

Yeah, and Megatron's two story body transforming into a P38 pistol that fits into Starscream's hand is much better. Along with Optimus's disappearing trailer.

I'm a fan of G1 myself, but this movie still looks awesome. Be glad they understand their target audience is in their 20's (as opposed to TMNT and Thunderbirds... the people who watched them as kids are now in their teens and 40's, respectively, and yet they make kiddy movies out of both of them).
