Happy Rhodes performing Peter Gabriel's "Mercy Street"

Ha, I suppose it would help if I hit Submit, right? Thanks!

I guess I voted twice, having forgotten that I'd already voted. I'm surprised it lists me twice. Sorry! I wasn't trying to stuff the ballot box.

Here's a video that on first glance looks pretty bad quality. Ok, second glance too, but the original was so much worse. The harsh lighting created glare on her face, there were tons of drop-outs, and the camera shake was barf-inducing. k8_fan took out the color to soften the lighting, softened the video to take out the drop-outs, and added a bit of a surreal effect to make the camera shaking less jarring. Really, if you saw the original, this looks MUCH better.

It's an AMAZING cover too. I think if you really look at it and concentrate, it gets downright hypnotic.

In my opinion anyway. I hope others see it that way.

That's Bon Lozaga of Gongzilla and Project Lo on electric guitar and electronics. This is at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, July 24, 1999. The song is on Project Lo's album Black Canvas.

Thanks to all the people who voted on this and thank you buggytobenot for posting this here. I'm k8_fan's wife and a long-time Happy Rhodes fan. I love it when new people discover her amazing talent, especially since she's not making music anymore (her last album was 8 years ago). I maintain her MySpace page, and I also maintain a song sample site at http://wretchawry.com/happy/samples. Btw, Happy Rhodes is her real name. She lives on a farm in upstate New York and has a day job now.

Happy's albums (she has 10!) can be bought at her web site at http://auntiesocialmusic.com plus her last album, Many Worlds Are Born Tonight, is on CD Baby and iTunes.

Thank you for watching/listening. I just posted another video, the one that k8_fan mentions above.

I'm k8_fan's wife (he put all the videos up on YouTube) and he asked me to post this. The video starts out with a very funny mistake, but once the music does start, it's enthralling. This was recorded at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia in 1996. Kevin Bartlett on electric guitar is hidden behind Happy, and Carl Adami is on bass.
