James Randi and Richard Dawkins Interview
Anyone know which conference this clip was filmed at?
Regarding Randi's answer to Dawkins' last question on the video, I'd say that it is really the only satisfying answer he could give. If some paranormal phenomenon could pass the JREF's testing, it would cease to be strictly paranormal and would be shown as something perinormal. Obviously here I'm assuming that the JREF's tests wouldn't be flawed. This creates the potential for a sort of catch-22 situation, in that no phenomenon could pass the tests and still strictly be considered paranormal. I'd hazard a guess that's why Randi is talking about "defining words being a risky process" as the clip ends.
Anyway, enough with my pedantry. Great clip, thanks Rembar!
Daniel Tammet (savant) Charms David Letterman
Rembar: From interviews with him which I've read, it may be barely noticeable for us to notice anything markedly different about him in these glimpses we have, but it's undoubtably an issue for him. He has to count the items of clothing he's wearing before he leaves the house, and drinks tea at the same times each and every day, to name just two examples.
Does anyone else find it really interesting that he's gay? Don't think I've ever heard anything at all about the sexual orientation of any autistic people (even high-functioning ones) with the possible exception of Einsten, who some people believe may have had Asperger's syndrome...
Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet
Lucky760: I always thought it was "sings the streets a serenade".
That said, "suss" is a slang word which in most contexts means "to figure out". For example: "He's got that problem sussed." So, "street-suss" could be a synonym for "street-smart". "Suss" can also be used to mean "suspicious", but that seems way out of context in this case.
George Carlin - Airport Security - USA took his advice :(
"It's only a table knife, but you could kill a pilot with a table knife. Might take you a couple of minutes, you know... Especially if he's a hefty guy..."
How did George Carlin get inside my head?!? Dammit, I knew I should've worn the tinfoil hat!

I'm no etymologist, but don't "atheist" and "nontheist" mean exactly the same thing? I can appreciate that avoiding the term "atheist" could help you with a few people to sidestep the stigma that seems to be attached to the word, but beyond that I fail to see the point of using an alternate term with identical meaning. Am I missing something?
In reply to your comment:
Richard did a nice job, and Paula was surprisingly fair.
I, personally, like the term nontheist, which is a better descripton; less combative.
As long as you don't hurt other people, I don't care if you believe in God, Allah, Zeus, or the Easter Bunny.
Oh well. As long as the car's not damaged.

- For some reason, almost everyone who owns or drives a Merc is a complete tosser.

Predictable from the title, but still funny.

Man, that's the worst ref I've ever seen! I'd like to see big John McCarthy give him some schooling...

I'm with you, Rembar. I find it really sad that someone could stand through something like that with their headphones on.

Anyone know what the song is on this?
The Roots - live at E-Werk, Cologne (2003 concert, 20 mins)
Thanks Benjee! The Roots are far and away the best live band I've ever seen. If you don't know them, I really urge you to watch this video.
If you don't think you like it after the first couple of minutes, give them a couple more minutes to reel you in. Their music can seem quite inaccessible, but once you get into it there's no going back...
