PETA's Banned Super Bowl Ad: "Veggie Love"

13650 says...

Most of what PETA do is small peaceful protests and exposing cruelty in the meat industry. They do publicity stunts to raise awareness of what they believe in, but so does every other company. I don't know why people have such an aversion to PETA, but maybe I haven't lived in this country long enough to see the other side of this organization. Anyone have actual news stories to show the other side of PETA (as opposed to just saying- they're a cult)?

The other option is moving out at 16... as it happens, that's when I moved from Israel to the US, or sit in prison for a few years, or get pregnant, or go to school first. It's not just religious, but good point

In reply to this comment by qualm:
I'm fairly certain the poster is simply pointing out that all Israeli citizens over 18 are soldiers or reservists -- except for those with exemption for religious reasons.

WAKE UP AMERICA! Israel is Killing Children With Your Tax $!

The video is interesting. I never understood why America pays for Israel... but I think it's wrong to demonize Israel.
I think it was said very well that both sides are wrong. It is not based on religion, but religion is brought up to justify and brainwash certain people. I hate that it's referred to as a generalized "Israel" as opposed to saying the military or government. Israel justifies shooting at civilians by saying that there are no innocent people in Gaza. I've been raised in Israel, so I don't know to what degree I am biased, but I don't like people hating a generalized concept of Israel. I am an Israeli who wants peace, but I also want my friends and family that still live there to be safe. I don't know what the solution could be, to be honest I have lost hope for peace in Israel when I was a child.
After living in the US for a few years I have become more open with my liberal opinions. When I talk to my friends from Israel, trying to figure out the cause and peaceful solution, they start saying that no one is innocent there, and speak about defense. That is the mentality most people have there because most people have lost someone and survival is what we know. The threat to both sides is constant so it is hard to trust the other side to uphold their side of a peace agreement.

Palin Pardons a Turkey -- While others are killed behind her

There was no offense taken on my part from the meat eatter comments, I was just making a comment about it for the record for the vegetarian side (at least in my perspective), that is all.

I can see the point about the slaughter scene being inappropriate for prime time news, but if you choose to censor one type of murder shouldn't you stop talking about any type of murder on prime time news? I'm being a bit devil's advocate here, but if a parent doesn't want their children exposed to the harsh realities of the world, maybe they shouldn't watch the news with them.

And yes, Sarah Palin is quite the dunce of epic proportions.

Your brain on Google

I've been seeing more articles about this lately. Many of them say that multi-tasking is bad for concentration because over time your brain becomes less capable of focusing solely on one task at one time. Which seems logical, but on the other hand with the mass of information that we have to process each day we have to multi-task or we would never get through all of it.

What books are you reading? (Books Talk Post)

13650 says...

"Arsonist's guide to New England Homes" and "Mansfield Park" are the fiction I'm reading.
I've read quite a bit of shojo manga lately, but that's just trashy romance with a new cover, really. I'm still struggling through "Watchmen".
Non-fiction "Deal-Breakers" (romantic advice), "Starting out" (financial advice) and Perspective and anatomy books for artists.
I probably should find a book about motivating myself to go to bed earlier.

(gets onto soapbox)
It makes me laugh that some comments say "us meat eaters" or say that people have no right to be offended since we eat meat... vegetarians make up only 2% of the population in the US but we're here too
Although I don't eat meat I'm not offended, it's a reality, one that makes me sad, but I still would rather see it than ignore it.
Seriously, they didn't have to blur it, we are all adults. I think it's a good time to show the general population where their food comes from and test whether they can still stomach their diet.
