Finally? Bah! Come and get me when you can say "finally the Onion stopped their painfully un-funny suckitude and got funny again" They were hilarious until about 2000 or so. They are so bad now as to be completely un-viewable.
Wow that was about as funny as the The 1/2 Hour News Hour. Only actually a bit better. Am being too harsh comparing to Joel Surnow's work.
Not endorsing the quality of the videos, just noting the historical value of The Onion going video.
Give it time. I remember the premieres of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, and they weren't genius right out of the box, either.
The onion eh.. I would say give it time. I still appreciate their satirical writing.
Check out this piece from March 2003. Prophetic?

This is still my favorite onion “article” to date.
This one is my favorite (from the golden pre-2000 years).
This my favourite: here
I used to read them regularly, ironically I was more careful to stay on top of every issue when their archives were sucky - when they opened them up (so I wouldn't have to check in every two or three weeks), I stopped dropping in regularly. Perhaps full-time jobs and videosift have that effect?
The funny thing about this article - http://www.theonion.com/content/point/this_war_will_destabilize_the - is that I saw a "no it won't" guy in NYC, arguing with anti-war protestors. Kinda funny to see the similarity - not suprrising, perhaps?
I don't feel like looking for them, but I've always remembered and <3ed the "Pants shortage threatens US raver economy" and "Astronomers Discover New Solar System 3 Feet from Earth".
