If you are not a Charter member and a cheap jerkwad like me that has enjoyed the Sift for years, the least you can do is click those ad banners up there ^ ^ ^ ^.

Let's say we all click like 10 a day, hopefully from a few different pages and different companies.

If a couple hundred people do it, it does make a difference. I know that might mean turning off your adblock or crippled etc/hosts file, but should be easy enough to drop a portable opera directory somewhere to browse from.

You don't have to do anything with the pages, that's what tabs are for, just open them in the background and then when you are done with the sift, close the browser and all the tabs. I recommend a trial period or say a month and admins can report back if they saw any extra ad revenue from it.

Umm.. nevermind I guess. I didn't read dags post. If krupo or someone can confirm the internet ad revenue dropped off a cliff, then this won't matter. 100 times nothing is still nothing.

I read scarier news about deflation, so it looks like we're all screwed when companies start dropping wages at the same time the US is printing money like they are trying to support Brazilian deforestation.

Welcome to today!

Aside from the ad revenue from them not providing as much as they did, the whole 'just go and click on some banners' idea is a little self defeating.

They'll just stop advertising as they end up paying for clicks that result in no sales, and no time spent at their site.

Now, I hardly ever click on ads... but I DO sometimes. When the ad is well targeted and of interest to me (usually thinkgeek ads on Slashdot), I do click on them.

I DON'T use adblockers because I feel that's doing a disservice to the sites I use for nothing... HOWEVER I have been tempted of late because the ads are the things that are slowing down the websites. Not so much on Videosift, but on other sites I've been getting flash ads that slow the browser right down, to the point that they make the flash videos I'm watching stutter (this on a dual core Athlon 64)... so that really does start making me consider turning them off altogether.

I click on ads when they're relevant. I hardly ever, ever see relevant ads on the sift I'm afraid.
