Long videos: Should pieces be submitted or just the first part?
I noticed some people like to submit each long video parts one by one. And some people just submit the first part, but include the rest of the parts in comments/description.
Is there a specific rule on these long videos with parts should be submitted?

Thanks, I was wondering the exact same thing.
with the advantage of youtube's threaded sidebars, we should be seeing less of this, but i don't think there's really a 'rule' about it.
For me, the first part with a link to the rest is the best way.....the zealous clogging of the queue, with part-, 2, 3, etc, is a pain in the ass....when the entire documentary or what-sit, can be found???I would suggest replacing the segment, and a feature that would send it back to the queue, for a go at votes, in its entirety! What think they??
I would rather see just the first part, then you can link to the rest in the description or just mention the rest of them are on youtube or whatever.
I think it's common courtesy to submit the first part, then link to the rest (or create a videoroll playlist if your feeling adventurous) No need to clog up the queue

I agree.
Should be entirely at the discretion of the poster, there shouldn't be a rule about it.
yeah deano, it always is, a more, perhaps, efficient use of the queue, is what is encouraged...no rules necessary, simply courtesy....anyone can hit youtube and find them all, painstakingly labored over by some wonderful insect....
Thanks guys. I think this was likely brought up because of my recent 3-part Pink Floyd post.
I discarded parts 2 and 3 and linked to them from part 1. Just call me noob!
I try to post just one part, and link to the other parts in the description. Isn't one of the new VS 3.0 going to be the ability to combine parts of a vid into one post? I thought I saw that somewhere.
anyway, *quality
[edit] I may have to try that youtube threaded sidebar thing, if I can get it to work!

"Youtube's threaded sidebars" -- how does one do this to submit?
i'm not sure how to create one, though i know it's possible. most of the time for a popular documentary or something, there is already one created. there's a "playlist" option on the youtube player page. that's where i've found the ones i've suggested. when you click the playlist, there's a new embed code there that will drop the sidebar in automagically.
I'd like to browse videosift without ever having to go to youtube to watch following parts.
Videosift incorporating youtube-like playlists would be good.
Now there's a little design issue: what happens if a new part is created after the video is posted? It would be bad not to have it broadcasted some way.
I honestly think it's annoying enough that there should be a rule against submitting multiple parts of one video. My main concern is that it will destroy the flow of comments - people commenting on one part of the video won't want to copy their comments to the next part, so conversation is broken up.
I personally try to link to other parts but don't submit them.
I just figured out that by creating and submitting a youtube play list that I could effectively submit an entire 7 part video as just 1 submitted embed. Don't know if there should be a rule per say but maybe a quick "How To" mention in the sharing docs would be helpful for the people who want to do it that way but don't know how.
