Bug with Avatars for Reincarnated Accounts??
Hi Sifties,
I'm having trouble with my avatar ever since my account was reincarnated after the Videosift Apocalypse.
At first my account showed no avatar... fair enough.
I went to upload a new picture, but when I hit "save changes" and then went back to the "Profile Settings" page, my OLD avatar was sitting there. Werid right? Well...
I then clicked on my "Main-Profile Page", it showed my new avatar, but clipped incorrectly. I tried resizing it, but every time I upload a pic, the profile-settings page shows my old avatar while my user-page shows the new photo but clipped incorrectly.
After uploading, if I go back to my User-page, and then back to the profile-settings page, it shows my NEW avatar, but clipped incorrectly.
If I select 'delete avatar', and upload a new photo, the same thing happens.
It seems a reference to my old avatar IS sitting in Siftbot's gears somewhere, and perhaps it's using the size of that image to clip my new image?
Not a big deal, but it seems wonky at the very least, and at worst, Siftbot is storing extra avatars unnecessarily.

This isn't a post-siftocalypse bug, it happens all the time. As far as I can tell, the solution is "wait".

In the backend we upload your avatar changes to our CDN network - sometimes this can take up to 1 minute to take effect. Also, could be cached.
gwiz665It also depends on which file type you upload. If you upload gif or png it takes a while, I assume because the system converts them to jpg, while jpegs are updated in a few seconds.

I guess the solution was 'wait', since when I delete my avatar now, my pre-apocalypse pic doesn't show up anymore. I found that supremely odd. I thought I did wait since it took me more than a minute to write my post, but oh well, it works now.
Re: Clipping, I had to make it exactly square or it clipped part of the image off. Turns out my resizing was off by one row
Dag, just out of curiosity: What's the deal with static, static1, etc? Why bother holding on to old avatars?
