TED Talk: Whitopia

Digitalfiend jokingly says...

Yay another thing to feel guilty about!

I'm going to have to really keep on my toes to ensure I'm not living in a Whitopia so that I'm not accidentally labelled a racist or white separatist.

I'm unsure what to make of this video, to be honest. Did this person poll the residents of each host town to determine why the moved there? Is the town mostly white because white people simply just want to only see white faces? Is it because they want to live amongst people that share similar cultural values, ideals, and belief systems? Is it just pure co-incidence? He sort of touched on that at one point in the presentation but then went back to suggesting it's bad to want security, a sense of community, etc ... if you're white.

I still don't understand what is inherently bad here; I guess I'm confused about the message. From what he told us, he was treated extremely well by the residents he interacted with. Is this a bad thing now? In my opinion, like-cultures seem to segregate themselves. For instance, in Canada we have portions of major city centres (even entire cities themselves) where the majority of the population is Chinese or Indian or Middle-Eastern or African Canadian. I think this would hold true for the US as well. Does this automatically make the people of those communities racist, just because they co-located with each other or does that only apply to white people?

Lastly, was most of the audience high? I couldn't figure out what they were laughing at half the time.

Bwaahahaha. I'm the resident troll, says the person who spouts insane right wing propaganda and insults on what they call a liberal site, and is almost always wrong on the facts.
I would hope to appear as a troll to such a person.
I found a lot wrong with your post....so did you looking at your response.
Btw, you can travel just fine without an id or license, driving is not a right.
I'm a resident "right wing fact" checker....one of many. Hilarious you think fact checkers are trolls....that says far more about you than it does about me.

Edit: Oh yeah, I get it now, fact checkers are trolls to right wingers, because facts are for liberals.

This comment is by far, your best composition yet, Bob. Looks great. Nice and neat.

As far as content and facts are concerned, newtboy will grade you on that.

EDIT:

It made me laugh that you listed, "Buying Smokes and Liquor" first under the heading "You need an ID for nearly anything important."

Good one! LOL!

Woman Tries To Block access to Apartment

Mordhaus says...

He could have definitely shown her the fob or asked her to close the door so he could prove he had access. Not being black, I can't say if he is just a dick or if he maybe was tired of everyone second-guessing him because of his race.

Both sides were confrontational, both could have backed down and handled it differently. I probably should have put more thought into the title because it does make it sound one sided.

I think the HOA board needs to front the money for security so that they do not have to ask individual residents to act as informal security. It's too risky and it leads to situations like these, where you can't be 100% certain who is right.

I think it's not likely she would have been so insistent he was barging in if he had used his key fob as he claims, but when he had a working key to his apartment that should have made it obvious he belonged there, after that I'm not sure why the police were needed. That's the only thing I see she did that was uncalled for, calling the police after he produced and used a working apartment key.

I do agree, she should have just called the police (not the board) immediately and kept an eye on him and not tried to physically stop him, for her own safety and liability. I don't agree she should ignore a stranger pushing their way into a secure building, even without the HOA emails. That's just being responsible.

The article indicated she had produced multiple emails from the HOA telling her (and every other tenant) to not allow anyone they don't personally know inside without using their key fob, which I believe he did. (If he had used his fob, he could have easily let the door close and used it again in <2 seconds instead of intentionally creating this incident he recorded and uploaded to shame her, it would still be in his hand.) If that's correct, I'm curious how they expect that to be enforced against people like him who not only ignore that request but rudely insist on being intentionally obtuse and looking as suspicious as possible. I also wonder if this was his intent with his suspicious actions, creating another racist white woman to figuratively publicly lynch. It seems likely, considering all the facts and the current climate, and his actions during and after the incident. He's milking this for every second of public exposure he can, from what I've seen, being interviewed on every newsertainment show that will have him.

(If he had used his fob, he could have easily let the door close and used it again in <2 seconds instead of intentionally creating this incident he recorded and uploaded to shame her, it would still be in his hand. It's possible they're both telling the truth, her leash was holding the door open and he used his fob, wrongly assuming that's why the door opened while she wrongly assumed he just pushed it open.)

She claims she had the door cracked and he came in. He claims he used his key fob, you can hear him in his video claiming he buzzed in with it at 1:31.

As an individual member of the HOA, she is not allowed to enforce anything. She can report the incident to the Board and they can enforce fines etc. The HOA board hasn't even stuck up for her actions, which means they are likely sending out messages telling their fellow condo owners to act as security in lieu of actual security.

You can tell she knew she fucked up when she saw him put his keys in the door to his condo. She may not be racist, but she is the type of person that shot Trayvon Martin. We should likely be glad she didn't own a firearm.

Organized Shoplifting Ring

The cost of this investigation was an absolute waste of money. With 1/10th of the resources one could complete an investigation into governor rick scott's theft of tax payer money and save the residents of Florida millions.

Hilarious.
I hope they deny the water girl in SF.

A girl and her mom set up shop in front of a residential building they don't live at and all day screamed their water selling slogans at passersby. They were repeatedly asked to move by building security, and they refused. Eventually, a resident came out and asked them to move and called local police (not 911) to see if they needed a permit. She is being portrayed as another BBQ Becky (the woman who called police about people illegally charcoal grilling in a public park annoying park users) as if there's something wrong with calling police on people breaking the law.
She, not the water sellers, should have access to free legal advice.
It's disgusting to me that so many have jumped on the 'lets call them racists and viciously mob them if they're caught in public because they are white and they called police on black people....people who were actually breaking the law and being exceptionally rude and disruptive about it when asked to move to a legal area.' bandwagon.

Meet Norway’s Modern-Day Vikings

Lumm says...

"[...] you haven’t been to Trondheim, Norway. The town still lives like their ancient ancestors before them[...]"

I have been to Trondheim, and while it was some years ago, it was a modern city at the time. I don't recall making my shoes or anything.

"[...] all lead by Chief Viking Ingrid Galadriel Aune Nilsen." That's gonna be news to the residents, who probably thought that Trondheim's mayor, who Google tells me is Rita Ottervik, led the city.

Boat Wreck On The Columbia River

From the article ant linked to:

Larsen [the 75 year-old boat driver], a Roseburg resident, told The Oregonian/OregonLive by phone Friday that he wasn’t using his cellphone while driving his Bayliner and referred to such allegations as “fake news.” Larsen also said a lawsuit seemed unnecessary because the people in the Weldcraft weren’t hurt badly.

Christ, what an asshole.

California Tried to Seize Millions of This Inventor

newtboy says...

First, this case is near 30 years old.
Second, California did seize millions from him.

So, he did business in California, collected royalties in California, and lived in California, and after the fact tries to "move" to Nevada (without a home or address) in an effort to not pay taxes on what he made in California, $13 million of taxes.
In the end, it was found he did do business in California even though he claimed Nevada residency at the time, and he lost the case (contrary to the narrative) and he was charged $1.9 million in back taxes (but not penalties).

This looked like a criminal investigation because it was one.
Making his SS# public, that should be actionable, although it was far less of an issue in the early 90's. I bet that's a big part of his $50k offset.
