NSFW thumbnail censoring (Controversy Talk Post)

residue says...

ok, actually here's an example. Let's say I've been saving powerpoints for a few months and now I've got 10 to burn. Maybe I'm felling a bit froggy and I decide to promote 10 videos with nude thumbnails. Now the entire videosift community has to scoll through 10 nude photos before you see any new content. While this is a bit extreme, it's entirely possible and entirely "legal" under current guidelines. I don't think the guidelines themselves should be changed for reasons already stated, so a toggle to hide NSFW thumbs seems like an elegant solution

An equally useful alternate solution would be as ant said to have separate tags each with its own filter. I vaguely remember a supportive poll a while ago about this. Definitely another goos solutionm but also one I initially envisioned as being more complicated.

New railgun fires round 7km AFTER its punched through steel

mentality says...

>> ^Mcboinkens:
You realize that list had no content, right? It was a list of items with no details. Anything can add a new topic to it since you don't need any actual research. When's the last time you heard about a breakthrough because of the ISS? That was my point. I support the ISS, but to tear into a budget because it is "useless" can definitely be applied to NASA as well.
Reviewing the list, it pretty much just covered anything possible "under microgravity conditions". How practical is that? Are we really planning on going to other planets at the moment? We can't even go back to the moon, and that's what my whole point was. Shift funds to what is the most useful. I would much rather have an upgraded Hubble or even new version of the hubble. Studying how viruses work in space isn't particularly useful when we have no reason to be in space to begin with, and so on.
EDIT: so that it doesn't seem like I am talking out of my butt, take a look at one of their "accomplishment" powerpoints: http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/168741main_AIAA_2007_ISSProgress.pdf
It's pretty easy to see that it's mostly fluff, and I realize that its an old document, but it was the top result and I was lazy. It talks a lot about what they WANT to do, or what they did, but nothing really came of it.

WTF are you talking about a list with no content? Did you even read ANY of the 720 reference linked in the wiki? And do you realize scientific discoveries take time? Oh you know, we're just running a lab IN SPACE. Let's give it a few years after it's finished assembling before we let our ridiculously shortsighted negativity take over, ok?

Regarding power points for dead fixes (Geek Talk Post)

kymbos says...

On this, I wanted to suggest a structural redistribution of power points towards me, because... well, I'd just like some more of them. Please.

I'll let others detail the mechanism, and the rationale. But I must stress, in the end, I get more powerpoints.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I think we should all do it collectively in our VideoSift collective to better serve the Sift Motherland. If you are not pulling your weight - we may put you in a virtual gulag. a "Siftlag" if you will.

But seriously, these are some valid points - and we are currently looking at the whole powerpoints system with a possible redistribution of powerpoints wealth in store for the future. Oh, and legalised Sift marriages to anyone, or anything - even to inanimate objects ... like say an old rusty flour sifter, for example.
