Smart young girl on the Bible and religion

Guys, you are talking to a brick wall. If you are enjoying watching the logic bounce off, then by all means continue. Just remember you will never get him to budge an inch, much less change his mind. Remember, in his eyes, this intelligent young woman is "one of the least well adjusted girls I've ever seen". He also has no problem with anyone who doesn't worship his god spending eternity in hell. Because that is what well adjusted means to him.

she's about as well adjusted as gogo from Kill Bill. And you're missing the point, entirely. The only people who go to hell are the ones who deserve to be there. No one is going to be in hell going "hey, you've got the wrong guy!" If you end up there, its entirely your fault, and nothing I can do or say will change that.

Ass Kicking Kung Fu Epic: True Legend

I'm torn on this.
I wasn't a big fan of Kill Bill - especially the second part. Certainly some great scenes, but too much winking self-awareness. Some of this trailer (especially the beginning) has this same kind of lazy looking self parody. I see what they're getting at, but I'm not a fan.
But it also has some absolute top shelf action talent, and every reason to believe it will have amazing action scenes. Oh, and Michelle Yeoh apparently.
So, yeah, this'll be awesome.

Just watched it. It's clear they cut the trailer to appeal to mass market America who loved the fact that the latest Karate Kid was about Kung Fu. It's not at all humorous as the trailer makes it out to be. They obviously mentioned Kill Bill among others for the same reason, but in fact the only "people who brought you..." they're really referring to is Yuen Woo Ping.

It is a bit fractured for it to be a perfect flick, but it was highly enjoyable to me. I recommend it especially to folks who know and appreciate the genre.

His opening statement up until about the 30 second mark I agree with. With the Public Relations industry you have certain things BORED into your brain. One of those things that allows State Capitalism to function soo well is you have to not care about anyone else. So you don't care about say the poor widow and whether she has enough to eat, make sure you vote against welfare. Or you don't care about whether a child going to school isn't starving all day during classes so you don't pay taxes for their breakfast or lunches. It's an anti-human characteristic so this kinda compassion has to be drilled out of your heads and it's very difficult to do, they've had some success.

They do this by changing words or misrepresenting facts, and it's certainly not just Fox. For example take the phrase "Job Killing Bill." There really has never been such a thing so what you do when you hear that phrase is replace it with "Profit Killing Bill" because that's what is being talked about. It's not about jobs for the top 1%, it's all about profits. You need it drilled into your head that you're working for just yourself, but you're working for them.

Everything Is A Remix: KILL BILL Edition

I don't think the creator of this vid was trying to put down Tarantino, RS... quite the contrary. It seems to me to have been put together by someone with encyclopedic knowledge of filmmaking, and I found it fascinating and awesome to watch. I would think Tarantino would applaud this! If not, then he's a douche. Just sayin'. <IMG class=smiley src="http://cdn.videosift.com/cdm/emoticon/wink.gif">

I just took that stance because the "everything is a remix" is usually a cynical look at Hollywood's tendency to redo the same thing over and over.

Tarantino would answer "so what?" Not because he is a dick, but because these effects/scenes weren't borrowed by accident. He has been open from the begining about the Kill Bill series copying vintage martial arts films. Pointing out the similarities is like pointing at Robert Rodriguezes "Grindhouse" and saying that he ripped off cult grindhouse films.

Everything is a Remix Part 2

I think this is true simply because of the way that our minds work, except that description has a double linkage. First, even the most original creator or developer of something is going to at least subconsciously reference other things that they have experienced or been exposed to, because our minds search for context inside of our own past.

And second, and perhaps more interestingly, our minds are going to see links between the new and the old and assume (correctly or not) that the new thing was clearly inspired by the old thing. Sometimes (many times) that may actually be correct, but we can easily be overestimating or inferring a connection that doesn't really exist because our brains are always looking for context and ways to pigeonhole things.

I don't really see any of this as anything to apologize for; even in the cases of the basest examples of regurgitated material. And in some cases, an homage that less than 1% of an audience will even pick up on (say perhaps the whistled tune in Kill Bill -- I certainly didn't get the reference) can be a very cool addition.

Tolkien has always struck me as having had an amazing creative mind. He drew from various mythologies, referenced a great many sources, but made an entire world with a history, population, and major events all in his own imagination. Of particular amazement to me is that a large percentage of what he created was just backstory, which he apparently never particularly intended for consumption by a larger audience (The Silmarillion for example).

Kill Bill Vol. 2 - Emilio the Fish Meets His Maker

I would have loved this video a lot more if it didn't have the word "Fish" in both the title and the tags. Not knowing Emilio isn't a person is half of the shock of this conversation

Many a time a brilliant title or a vid that you don't want to be obvious until it's been watched has been ruined by the youtube titles slapped across the top. I hate that they have that, have wondered if there's a way to take them off. And sorry I never thought about presuming Emilio was a person, he gets round to saying it's her pet so quickly, it didn't even register to me

Bill monologues should be inserted into more pop culture. Sesame Street should get him on as a guest star extolling on the finality of the letter Z, Bill O'reilly should have him in a segment called "Thoughts of Bill" where he explores a rationalization of this weeks neo-con cognitive dissonance, Good morning America should have a live cross etc

Yeah. Except, now he's dead. Yet another brilliant videosift idea wasted by the grim reaper.

Inception and Memento are both really good films (I think Inception is a Great film), but largely because they are great ideas, well delivered. His Batman stuff is fine, but it didn't rock my world. Really, it seems pretty formulaic to me.
I think Tarantino's work is so distinctive and ambitious, that he sits above all others. Also, if you go through his films (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, the two Kill Bills (so far, a third has been announced), Grindhouse and then Inglourious Basterds), it's hard to pick a weak spot apart from Grindhouse which was a disaster and an excuse to film the best car chase in modern history. But even that was ambitious if not well executed.
I'm tempted to put Danny Boyle up there, but almost exclusively for Trainspotting which is my favourite film of all time, and Sunshine which I thought was brilliant.
Perhaps Tarantino could be given the nod for best writer/director in the modern era?

Good call on Danny Boyle. I haven't see Sunshine, but 28 Days Later is one of my favourites of all time, Shallow Grave was a great debut and Slumdog Millionaire was beautiful. But yeah, Tarantino, he's inimitable
