I think someone mixed the 'mustang owners can't drive' video with a ford commercial.

Officers can and have been hit or killed while deploying spike belts and I'm not sure if they still try to shoot out tires these days.

The PIT maneuver can work quite well but different factors like speed, traffic and apparently trailers even can affect it.

I recently picked up the Mustang Alpha with Squadron 42 combo pack in anticipation of 3.0 (I got in just a couple or few weeks ahead of the 2.5 release). I still prefer Elite Dangerous at the moment, and really wish the ED devs would be more communicative the way RSI/CIG is. If SC can deliver on a good portion of their stuff.... we'll be in for a treat. It amazes me we can have such a big world that seems so seamless the way ED and SC do...

I can't imagine the amount of work that one will have to do in game to earn enough in game money to buy such a thing... I'd have to assume it would be via a guild/corp/organization with lots of members grinding away and making contributions for such a thing. Still, would be cool to fly a ship up into one, then walk around it.

To be fair, it was the 80's when almost every car was still suffering from the oil crisis fallout. Handling wise, it still could run the track about as fast as a 3rd gen WRX. In a straightline run, it suffered even back then. A much cheaper 1985 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 HO was just ever so slightly faster than it in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

God help you if you ran into a Buick Grand National though, those things ate other sports cars for breakfast back then. Of course, if you were unlucky enough to be racing your 85 in 87 and happened to see an all black Buick with a GNX badge, you might as well turn off your engine and park. Those things were as fast as the Countach Quattrovalvole and the Testarossa.

The patina on my 73 Mustang has progressed to "rusted through" in more than a few places so I'm resto-modding it. It's only a Grande convertible so the VIN doesn't decode rare at all, so I feel ok customizing it.

I was also quite interested in the "advantages" question. My grandfather was an armorer on P-47 "Thunderbolt" aircraft in WW2, and I knew that rotary engines were used in those.

Both of your answers tie in to the strengths of P-47s during the war. They were considered very reliable and resistant to damage (sorta like a WW2-era A-10; they could take a beating and make it back home). And of course, in internal combustion powered aircraft, power to weight ratio is even more important than in automobiles.

So, I'm sure that some of those strengths were at least partially due to the use of a radial engine. Not entirely, because other things in the design played a big role also -- like the fact that the P-47 engine was air cooled, so it didn't need a radiator system. As I understand it, comparatively light damage to a liquid-cooled aircraft like a P-51 that happened to damage the cooling system could disable or force them down for repairs... Not to knock the amazing piece of engineering that the Mustang was, but for sheer ability to take a beating and stay in the air, the Thunderbolt may have been the best US fighter in the war.

If the stealth tech worked every time, yes, it would have it nailed. I don't think it does, and even if it does, it's methods will be 'cracked' as soon as they're known and we'll need an entire new plane with new systems. You're right, when it goes as planned. It does not always go as planned, and we don't want to lose an F-35 every time we make a mistake in predictions, do we?

I think it's more like a camouflaged sniper hiding in the trees that's taken over the responsibility for also being an artillery brigade and a front line infantry brigade.
It can't do most of what it's designed to do, can barely do what it's best at, and if it's caught, it can't defend itself.

I really don't think there's a job they have for it that can't be done by the F-15, F-16, F/A-18, F-117, B-2, A-10, etc....meaning there's no need for it at all, and we could have had hundreds of those planes for the cost of the R&D done so far for a plane that doesn't yet work, and costs a mint when it is finally deployed, not just to build but for upkeep too.

I'm pretty sure a lot of pilots in WW2, and Korea, and Vietnam would disagree about dogfighting ending in WW1 and about it being all strategy and not performance. For instance, in WW2, we kicked ass largely because a zero was made of paper and couldn't take a hit while the mustang was a flying tank....or so I've read.

I can sure think of a bunch of other things the fed could have spent $1.3 Trillion on....we could all be traveling in tubes for that much money! The Republican's could make a camp to send all Muslims to on the moon for that kind of money.

Weight distribution is just as important too. the beetle has the engine right at the back sot he weight is over the driven wheels. Very little weight up front and the body is relatively tall. That means from the start the rear wheels grip and bite hard, then any weight shift as the car accelerates and the front lifts puts more weight to the rear axle meaning even more grip. Beetles win drag races in the first 20m or so. As you can see in this video the difference in speed in the first second or two is massive. Stop the video at 39 seconds and you'll see in that first launch the beetle has gone twice as far as the mustang. That speed difference that early on is very hard to catch up.
