How are different languages constructed?

blacklotus90 says...

Agreed. I'd love it if he compared the same sentences in Chinese, Turkish, and Algonquin, or even just gave a couple examples of polysynthetic phrases. Wikipedia has some great examples here though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polysynthetic_language e.g.

From Classical Ainu of Japan, polysynthetic, incorporating, and agglutinating language.

Thanks! I will definitely take a look! Sorry it took a while to reply, NR took last week off, so we were on a staycation, and I barely checked my emails. Barely meaning I checked, and then forgot.. But this sounds very interesting!

This week has been kinda busy too, since NR was also off on Monday (Memorial Day), yesterday just went, and I was 'oh, I was gonna do this and this and this.. And I didn't do anything since I was fretting over the upcoming blood tests.. today I did have a doctors' appointment to have a check-up (which I really, really, REALLY don't wanna go to! But we have to, for stupid insurance....), anyway.. blood was drawn, I did not black out (yay for me..), but I still need to get over it.. get healthier and stuff.. Try to sleep better and get my blood pressure down..

I have started to write a blog in Finnish, about my life in the US, and I have a few readers, and it makes me VERY happy. So, right now, I don't think I am going to sift, I just wanna blog.. We'll see how long this lasts!

Again, thanks, I will check the article! Take care, I don't know when I am gonna be sifting again, might be a bit... might be soonish.. probably not.. Right now blogging is making me happy! NR is fine too, he says Hi!

This is an interesting story, from Stockholm city police register of the year 1536, using Runes to protect the name of a (high status) married woman found with someone who was not her husband... about half way down this article:

Google translate didn't do a very good job, fortunately my reference filled in the details. It was also interesting that the ring above the 'a' in på was off to the right, and not directly above like modern usage.

Cop Smashes Cell Phone For Recording Him

newtboy says...

I listened a few times, but all I could understand was "I'm have a right to be here" and "you need to stay away from ...." and "I have a right to film". I also caught the other officers cheering "yay!" when he smashed her phone. There was a lot I just can't pick out over the other noise though, she was 'pushing buttons' it seemed, but that's no where near justification for the criminal reaction.

I understand. I've been in cover bands. I was providing solid, factual information and the zeitgeist of the truly raw emotional music called metal. How does this equate to the lack of understanding of the music industry and the game they force musicians into? Then the game those very musicians somehow embrace via, what, musical Stockholm syndrome? lol!!!

Yeah, it sure is a good way to practice and get views. I agree, but how is it Top 15? All the other good musicians playing the good but unpopular songs and aren't cute enough for branding?

Yay Capitalism. It works. Who would have guessed. But I don't base my up votes on this sad fact of economics. It's bullshit. The music industry should be a sacred institution of musical progression and the pursuit of higher standards in music. But it's just a machine. The machine doesn't produce the truly great stuff. The great stuff is made by geniuses who write music because they breath it. It's made by disenfranchised youth. It is NOT this. This is cute but fucking SAD. But I guess no one gives a fuck because cool that's how it works. Ignore the superior talent, the artists with passion and personal drive due to adversity -- nooooooooo, focus on the popular talent.

Covering popular standards is a good way of practicing and also of getting some views. Many bands on YouTube do it and it seems a bit weird and pompous to pick on these talented performers for doing it too.
