scientist air cannon prank
(edit)
From some tv show https://youtu.be/WvH3VN5Xr6s (edit/splice is easy to see @1:16 look at the scientist face who is in the room)
Wired article https://www.wired.com/2011/04/could-this-pneumatic-lab-prank-work/
Okay, okay, someone has to say even though it's obvious it: fake. Not survivable.
F-18 Criticisms in the 80's mirror those of the F-35 today
That was about 4 years ago as they were fine tuning the fly by wire system. And the sensationalist media which thrives on reader outrage took the story and spun it for clicks/views. People love to hear about military over spending just as this video from the 80s shows.
In recent dog fights, the pilots praise the F-35 greatly.
The F-35 was doomed from the start when different branches wanted different things. Vertical takeoff, stealth shielding, etc.
Recent dogfight tests have shown it loses to earlier jets. Too many compromises hurt it's ability to be a great fighter.
How Vintage Game Controllers Worked
I'm embarrassed to admit that I never knew how the NES/SNES controllers were wired until watching this video.
For others curious, here's a timing diagram:

Canada's Beating Heart
The tragedy of that "charge" in World War I wasn't that the Newfoundland soldiers died in epic combat, man-on-man, but that they got hung up on their own barbed wire and were simply machine-gunned to death by the Germans as they struggled to get through. Those that did manage to stagger into No Man's Land were picked off because they were the only soldiers crossing the open gap between the lines.
In a war marked by human wastage, the charge of the Newfoundland Regiment on the Somme was an appalling low point.
Heat Shrink Self-Solder Butt Splice Connectors
Sure wish these had been around when I spent hours wiring up a new fuse block in my old VW, in 20-something degree temperatures. Could have been done in 20 minutes, rather than 3-4 hours.
Heat Shrink Self-Solder Butt Splice Connectors
Awesome, but transparent tubing? I'd be scared of touching it, 'cause what if the tubing has chafed off and the bare wire is exposed? You wouldn't know.
Heat Shrink Self-Solder Butt Splice Connectors
For those who have to join wires together will realize how good this idea is.
This is a great product idea.
Chicago Police Leaving Bait Truck full of Nikes Near Park
Ye, but if there were shootings and stabbings in your neighbourhood then wat?
Not gonna dispute the legality of it, or that stealing shoes from a truck is a crime, but... to borrow from The Wire, its like searching the kids standing on the corners. You'll like get arrests, but you won't be doing much to actually reduce crime or improve the community.
From YouTube:
"One Man could be heard asking the Officers, "Would you do this in your neighborhood?" There was no answer for his question. "
YES, they do this in my community!! And I encourage it.
Kinda separates the innocent people from the not-so innocent.
I'd rather they find out who's been doing the stealing before my stuff is stolen. It's very rare they find the stolen goods even once they catch the thieves - the loot is long gone. So catch them using bait, rather than waiting till real people are robbed and violated.
A horse with a bit of a fetish for electricity?
Do you have it plugged in? Is the on switch on?
Guaranteed its off or the current is a fraction of what it should be, horses jump out of their shoes when they hit a live wire.
Luscombe Annual Inspection 2018
Looks like the plane will last forever. That old technology is better than the new stuff in many ways. The controls are all hard-wired with mechanical linkages. The magneto means the engine keeps running even if the the alternator or battery fails.
Even with no electric power, a pilot can keep flying.
But Intelligent People Believe in God...
I believe we evolved communication to help our tribes. "Sabertooth lion over there!" "those berries give you mad gas, bro!" "hey, let's try to be civil with the neanderthals"
And so, we're wired to believe what people say, especially the ones who appeal to our hopes and fears. It takes conscious effort to doubt a good storyteller.
And such is religion.
Rachel Maddow breaks down .. report on 'tender age' shelters
Let's call them what they are.
Concentration camps.
The first stages of Ethnic Cleansing.
I'd like to point to the following article via Slate.com
"As one of the few journalists permitted to tour the government’s new internment camp, about 40 miles from the southern border, the New York Times correspondent tried to be scrupulously fair. Forcing civilians to live behind barbed wire and armed guards was surely inhumane, and there was little shelter from the blazing summer heat. But on the other hand, the barracks were “clean as a whistle.” Detainees lazed in the grass, played chess, and swam in a makeshift pool. There were even workshops for arts and crafts, where good work could earn an “extra allotment of bread.” True, there had been some clashes in the camp’s first days—and officials, the reporter noted, had not allowed him to visit the disciplinary cells. But all in all, the correspondent noted in his July 1933 article, life at Dachau, the first concentration camp in Nazi Germany, had “settled into the organized routine of any penal institution.” "
Yes... he did it. If there were any doubts left, this should remove them. Trump officially put the United States on the same path as Nazi Germany.
What are you going to do about it?

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Leaving Earth the Greenest Way Possible: Water Cremation
This is what I want for me. I just have to make it another five years or so.

Spacer Installation on 765,000 volt line
I believe its to keep the wires from hitting each other during high wind.
What's the point of the spacers?
Spacer Installation on 765,000 volt line
that kind of work amazes me. I'm sure they need to fly in perfect weather but the pilot needs to keep it steady and even lowers himself closer to the wire when he needs to get to the far underside clamp. And I am sure it is second nature by now but if you mess up on the needle and clamp then its either you or the helicopter who gets the zap and neither one will work right after.
