Uh-oh!

mram says...

That was pretty funny.

But it's deflection. Orange man still bad. I can explain why. Ask me.

And you have yet to show how orange man not bad. Orange man break law. Orange man lie. Orange man flail over a bunch of stories.

I never took documents.
The documents I took weren't classified.
The documents I took were declassified when I removed them.
I was never asked for the documents.
I gave all of the documents.
I gave the documents that were asked for.
YOU COULD HAVE JUST ASKED FOR THEM.

Interesting word soup there and some absolute contradictions given that the moment Orange Man left office - and he did leave office - he wasn't supposed to have any documents. So you know... party of law and order, but not when I do it, right?

By the way, as I do work with the government, there is no magic wand to declassify documents, even for the POTUS. Declassification of records of any kind is a documented and methodical process, not a whimsical adhoc "nah lets not do mcdonalds, I want burger king" choice.

Yeah ... "uh oh!"

Looking forward to your talking points, once Faux and Friends figure out the most inflammatory angle.

Capitalism Didn’t Make the iPhone, You iMbecile

vil says...

But it (the internet) took off based on the possibility of profit. Got stolen from the nerds.

Of course basic research needs public funding. No direct profit - no market value. Some capitalists (entrepreneurs, people who invest their private property) look beyond direct profit and fund science, or arts, people are whimsical.

Iphones need a market. Without a market who would care if someone invented the Iphone?

avengers infinity wars teaser trailer

Retroboy says...

Good lord, now they're showing teasers for movies that are half a decade out?

Makes me wonder how many people are whimsically thinking to themselves "I wish I could make five years of my life vanish so I can watch these!"

11 Questions Willy Wonka Left Unanswered

grinter says...

1. He’s a tinker. He fixes things, and sharpens knives
2. Someone who appreciates or is loyal to Wonka products, a fanboy.
3.He’s Mike’s friend.. the other questions are don’t stem from the movie.
4.He is sooo excited about the ticket that it has given him uncharacteristic strength (he’s obviously worn out after the dance). It’s a musical, stop being a dipshit.
5. Yes, no, no.
6. He’s doing it sneakily, the parents don’t notice (although some of the children later tell their parents).
7. Businessmen often use out of place, insincere physical contact as a device to demonstrate their sincerity and good nature.. and no, Mr. Beauregarde’s attempt at networking was thoroughly shot down.
8. No. no. and C’mon pay attention! ..and again, it’s a musical, although it’s also implied that the Oompa Loompas tend to sing and dance as they work.
9. No. Wonka and the tour don’t take the ferry when the leave the room, and there is clearly no way all of the Oompa Loompas would be able to use the ferry efficiently. and, no, no, no.
10. No. No one was seriously hurt, and the contract apparently had more to do with the contest (limited to the children) than protection from injury suits. Assault is not considered assault when its whimsical; it’s considered a prank.
11. Capitalist greed, and a lack of value placed on simple pleasures and imagination.

The Space Lady ~ Major Tom

Sagemind says...

The Space Lady (aka Suzy Soundz) is San Francisco’s most enchanting street musician. Whether on keyboard or accordion, her music stops sidewalk traffic even in this multi-task town. She usually performs wearing a whimsical steel helmet with angel wings, which makes her easy to recognize but belies the credibility of her haunting vocal interpretations of well known songs. The Space Lady, whose real name is Susan Dietrich, made only a full length CD of San Francisco sessions for sale. The disc features Susan performing live on Casio with effects.

Low Cost Solution To Landmine Clearance.

aaronfr says...

A lot of misconceptions here:
>> ^Drachen_Jager:

and people may think of zones where these have been operating as 'clear' instead of as potential landmine areas. I think this invention has a great potential to increase the number of accidental landmine detonations, lost limbs and deaths.
Generally, people don't whimsically choose to walk through an area that is covered in land mines. Most Westerners tend to discount the power of local knowledge, and to assume that everyone else in the world is just running around from unknown place to unknown place like we do. Fact is, in places like Afghanistan, the people are hyper-aware of the local situation, particularly when it relates to their personal security and they tend to stay in a small geographical area (no weekend trips to the lake or across country to see Grandma). Landmine deaths occur most often in places that are not marked as dangerous and alongside roads (which tend to be the only path between one location and another.
>> ^Drachen_Jager:

Maybe it will explode a few, but when some of it's 'legs' get blown off it stops moving. Does someone go out there, risking his life and limbs in what is now a known minefield to fix it, or do you just leave it there?

Ummm.... how do you think landmines are removed now? With hi-tech robots and a smartphone? Plenty of lives and limbs at risk in this world cleaning up the messes of violent conflict.
>> ^Drachen_Jager:

Because they may seem cheap, but 1 whirlydoohickey blown up per 1 landmine disarmed is hardly 'cheap', when some landmines cost under a dollar, and they may be spread out in the thousands in a given area.

IF the current cost is §1200 per landmine removal, then, yes, §40 per landmine is cheap.

I bet you're a ton of fun to hang out with.

Erm you uploaded it, think your kinda biased. Btw I took my kids (aged 12-9) to see My Chemical Romance, Off Spring, The Madness, Limp Biskit, The Strokes, Motorhead and even Slipknot last year. I am fun - I just don't need crap from the serving staff any more.

Time Lapse Ice Flow

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer #1

Drax says...

>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

I have the opposite reaction in that the tone seems too much like LOTR. The Hobbit was a fairly cartoony book - much more of a classic kids adventure than a sprawling epic like LOTR. It should be lighter, funnier and more whimsical than its sequel. I'm guessing Jackson feels a need to unite these two books that take place in the same universe, even though the writing style varies so greatly between them. Either way, he can bank on my $24.

I've always thought of The Hobbit as being a book based on someone "finding There and Back Again" (in a fictional sense) and then making a book from *that*. Sort of a book within a book premise. So though The Hobbit takes place in Middle Earth, just like Lord of the Rings, it's narrative is based on Bilbo's writting (perspective).

This irons out all the kinks in my mind, as clearly the two stories *do* take place in the same universe otherwise. And anywhere there's a difference in tone, or what not can be attributed to Bilbo's perspective on how the tale is told.

***SPOILER ALERT***

While on one hand I agree, I also disagree. I recently re-read this, and the standoff between Balin and locals after Smaug destroys their town and is killed, as well as Bilbo's deception (donning the ring, sneaking off to make a deal to end the standoff etc...) and the ensuing Battle of the Five Armies... these things have a very epic and grownup quality to them.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer #1

schlub says...

I think it will be to an extent especially at the beginning but... at the same time, the majority of people who will see this movie (as was the case with LOTR) will never, ever read a book (I'm looking at YOU americans!). So, they would not understand why The Hobbit is so ridiculous and childish as compared to LOTR. I for one would be disappointed if the movie were done in exactly the same spirit/tone as the novel (the book was for kids after all).

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat; it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

I'd feel like I was watching teletubbies if the movie were presented in such a way

They do need to be connected, but trailers can be deceiving too. Let's see when some more stuff is released. This does look very close to the lord of the rings, I'm cool with that.
