Eric Winston Tears into Fans Who Cheered Quarterbacks Injury

rottenseed says...

So? Climbing trees is the result of broken arms and legs...what the fuck do you want? Stop pussifying this country. Very rarely are kids playing football against their will. Especially at the level where concussions are happening (high school and up). Stop trying to force the world to adopt your views on everything. You don't like football so NOBODY SHOULD PLAY IT? What the fuck kind of view is that? You might as well be a Christian telling me that we should be teaching creationism in school. Different points, same obnoxious tenacity and narrow point of view.>> ^JiggaJonson:

I stand by my original comment, and the risk is more than likely, it's a near certainty. You're supporting a game that is the sole cause of roughly 2.5 million concussions diagnosed in adolescents each year. Roughly 1.5 million of those kids will sustain multiple concussions.
There's also Kurt Warner's telling NBC that his son's playing football is a thought that "scares [him]" But hey, I guess you'd probably expect that from someone who feels as though "Playing through concussions is part of the game."
I feel like a decent human being would try to stop them from putting themselves in harms way, not hoping they don't get hurt when they play with fire.
From my point of view, you're the one cheering on the cock-fight. I'm just happy to see one of them go down because it refocuses the issue of the dangers in the sport for meatheads like our video's Eric Winston. Sure, he cares now, but I can just as easily see him saying "One more play! You gotta play through head injuries like that!" ala Kurt Warner's insider info on the culture of the game.
That said, I doubt the crowd was thinking this far into it. They were probably just bloodthirsty.
Finally, Quote where I imply that risk = celebrating human suffering, from my comments.

The Bane of Banned Books

Yogi says...

Chomsky had an interesting story about one of his books. It wasn't banned by a government or some entity of that, but it was stifled by a private company. I think it was Warner or something but anyways they owned a small book publishing company that was publishing one of his books. One of Warners execs saw an ad for the book and didn't like it. Than he ask for the book and read it and he REALLY didn't like it. So he decided even after the books were printed to close the publisher. Put the people out of work and Pulp Chomskys book and all the other books that were being published. So it wasn't Chomsky only that suffered but they took out tons of other books.

The reason is because a corporation is it's own Private tyranny that operates by it's own rules. They can't be allowed to do that in a democratic society, they should be stopped.

Animaniacs - The Universe Song

Warner Bros. secretly promoting Atheism to children through cartoon!
More details tonight on FOX!

Of note, they changed the last few lines for public consumption:

Edited version:

Though we don't know how it got here
We're an important part here
It's a big universe and it's ours!

Original:

You might think that you're essential
Try inconsequential
It's a small world after all!

Stuff other than hydrogen and helium is only 2% of the universe, and yet, most of the interesting chemistry happens in that 2%, and biological systems are even more complex than just raw chemistry, so we are both trivially small percent, but a very complex and interesting percent!

Yeah, I actually figured that but Speedy's an easy target for people with no sense of humour- I'm sure this Mayor fits that category.

Not sure if you misunderstood me, as I wasn't knocking or "censoring" Speedy Gonzalez. FWIW, the Warner Brothers cartoons from the 1940s and 1950s are the quality standard that I compare all over animations to. And no doubt some of them have blatantly racist or ethnically insulting scenes and characters, which were viewed as acceptable back then.

My comment was that it would fit right in with the mayor's taco remark, to act like being a fan of Speedy Gonzalez would help build bridges to the modern day Latino community in East Haven.

Wow....just....wow. I live near New Haven and have read about this quote but this is the first I'm seeing the footage. At least he didn't say "I might have tacos and then watch a Speedy Gonzalez retrospective".

Don't you knock Speedy Gonzales! That dude rocks! He's won at least one more Academy Award than any of us ever will. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedy_Gonzales
The world of America was bigoted and rife with ethnic stereotypes at the time. Those views were just as wrong then as they are now, but to censor the mouse is the same as pretending that those views never existed. Disney pretends that "Song of the South" was never made, but that's a mistake as well.

Nothing Heals Racial Divides Like Eating Tacos

TYT - Ron Paul's Worst Newsletters - Cenk Gives Verdict

messenger says...

I think Cenk's missed the boat on this one. He's blinded by the almighty "Racist" trump card.

As horrible as racism and homophobia and sexism are, IMO, corruption is worse. Why? Because if the corruption reduces the value of your vote, and your freedoms of speech and assembly are legislated away, then it doesn't matter what you think about bigotry because if Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Time Warner want to make it worse, they will do so with their campaign contributions.

I'd vote for an openly racist president who acknowledges his biases and shows he understands the difference between his biases and his duty to the country, if he is going to deal a serious blow to corruption.

I can already hear people saying this is a ridiculous statement, that it's impossible. So to you, consider your own biases: if you're on VS, you probably vote liberal and are anti-religion. If you were in power, and openly acknowledged these biases, would you use your power to make laws unequal for conservatives and the religious? Would you ignore problems they had?

To bring it back to Ron Paul, to my limited knowledge, he has never shown that racism or homophobia are politically motivating factors for him.

So yeah, Cenk's missing the forest for the trees.
