Meh, just weld on some armour plate.

I'm still waiting on someone in the walking dead using my idea of harvesting walkers to create bio-diesel. I find it hard to believe no pragmatic-minded people survived the outbreak.

You and everyone else, that's the problem - not enough to go around. Also slow moving and therefore not safe against bandits.

Why are the space ships flying around in the atmosphere like there isn't any atmosphere? I know they can fly etc., through the air, but they're designed to be super maneuverable in space. Don't get me wrong, it looks cool and all, but that's why they didn't fly X-Wings at the Imperial Walkers in Episode V...

Furious 7 - Official and Officially Awesome Trailer

lucky760 says...

@gorillaman @ChaosEngine

Fast & Furious (which is part 4) was the first step in the right direction as the first in the series to start a transition, although only marginally, out of a fun-but-really-stupid category of action flick. Tokyo Drift was definitely the worst of them. (I'm just hoping the tie-in with part 7 and the return of Lucas Black will somehow make up for its existence; introducing us to Han's back story in Fast Five helped.)

Fast Five was the first good flick on its upswing toward world domination because it was much less dumb, but had a much richer story, better characters, incredible practical effects, a huge, diverse cast, and awesome international settings. This was the first time it was much more kick-ass than pure roll-your-eyes-and-sigh maximum-dumb-shitatude accompanying the action.

Fast & Furious 6 continued to prove they were onto a winning formula and continued that trend. (However, there's a fucking-stupid ~9 minute fight on an airplane WHILE it is driving at near-takeoff speeds on a runway. I did some calculations the last time I watched it and remember thinking they had to be on like a 20-mile-long runway. Come on guys, it's called editing; or at least have some phony excuse for that bullshitestry. But I digress.)

One of the most compelling parts of both parts 5 and 6 were some kick-ass (though of course impossible) practical stunt sequences that may have been the first I've seen as a fully-grown man to earn me a visceral ear-to-ear grin and cause me to unintentionally, audibly say "Holy shit!" in the movie theater.

Can't wait for part 7 and I hope they are able to just keep churning them out, despite the unfortunate loss of Paul Walker because these are some seriously ass-kicking action flicks.

German Language Compared to other Languages

TheGenk says...

The Krankenwagen takes you to the Krankenhaus because you are krank. Simple and logical.
"The ambulance takes you to the hospital because you are sick" on the other hand... now that you should not like the sound of. With a little etymological magic this becomes:
The walker takes you to the guesthouse because you are sick.
That's just silly.

@ChaosEngine There are even more words for fluffy, but I heard the english language doesn't have a word for the happyness you feel when a person you dislike encounters a little misfortune or the place you send your kids to before they are old enough for school.

So... if I'm sick, the krankenwagen is going to take me to the krankenhaus... presumably for some kranken. I don't like the sound of that at all.

JustSaying says...

Wow.

So, smokers who get lung cancer can go fuck themselves? Same for people who live with smokers? No sympathy for those assholes. They should've known better. Having said that, Amy Winehouse can go fuck herself as well, everbody knows the risks of alcoholism. And no sympathy for Paul Walker either. Speeding, really? And those idiots dying in parachuting accidents deserve what's coming to them as well. Should've stayed on the ground. Same with every somewhat dangerous sport. Applies to you too, Michael Schuhmacher.
Fuck all those people who did something potentially dangerous and got seriously hurt or killed because of it. Empathy is for pussies anyways.
This is especially valid for people who cause others financial harm as they deserve death the most. Preferably by having the head crushed under a tire.

I especially like the line about how Walter Jr. handles walkers better than Rick. LMFAHS.

Only Bikes and Pedestrians go here

shatterdrose says...

Surprised this wasn't already up here . . .

But anyway. To answer above questions:

Police are fighting jurisdiction. Because it's a car on a pedestrian bike way, there's lots of people involved. For instance, we have a road here in Orlando that's owned by the state (FDOT), the city and OUC, our power company. So if someone was to wreck and hit a power pole, all 3 would be involved. If a pedestrian was hit while on the sidewalk, FDOT or OPD would be called and if they wanted to bicker about it, they could endlessly. That's essentially what's happening here, because whomever takes responsibility can be sued.

As for why the biker didn't see the car: when we climb (not saying that was a hard climb, but I don't know her skill level) we tend to not look too far ahead of us. In a case like this, it's almost perfect for us to glance, see no walkers, and then mash the pedals up the hill. Head down, aero and aggressive, gives us the most efficient power usage.

The car, well, I can't attest to how much of a dumbass you must be to not realize you are no longer on the road.

AnomalousDatum jokingly says...

Nah, it's fine. I read an outline of the next 3 books and it gets much better from here. No one else will die, they'll all retire in a newly reformed Valaria where the sun is always shining and every house is a kingdom. People will live in perfect harmony with no reason to be mean to each other. The old ones will come back to reform the bad people, white walkers will decide that they have no reason to go south where it gets warm.

So don't worry and enjoy.

Street Harassment Of Women In New York - An Art Project

Shepppard says...

You've boiled the issue down far too much to make an effective point. The video is titled "Stop telling women to smile". Neither of the two women interviewed had anything to say about them being harassed by being told to smile (at least, not that they spoke of on-camera).

Sage's point was that telling someone to smile isn't necessarily harassment, and he's right. I tell people at work all the time "hey, come on man, smile" as a means of trying to cheer them up.

There's a difference between that some random street walker hitting on you, making the title just seem... ineffective. Something more along the lines of "Stop Street Harassment" or "We're not a piece of meat", something that actually explains the problem better than the title the artist chose to go with.

At the end of the day, to me at least, this video is trying to make a larger point about smiling = looking good, women need to look good (or are objectified by men so they need to look good) therefore, women must smile to look pretty for men all the time and STOP telling us to do so!

If it's not that, then the real reason it's called "Stop telling women to smile" eludes me.

I'm not saying that it's not a problem. ANY form of harassment is a problem, weather it be racial, gender, sexual orientation, etc. based. But rallying behind someone being told to smile? That's just meh.

And before you ask, no, i'm not saying that there isn't a problem with harassment. And I'm not saying it's a minor one. I'm saying that "Hey babe, nice tits!" is more something to be offended by. I'm not a woman and get told to smile all the damn time.

bareboards2 said:

Maybe if you just respected that these women have a problem, they are not you, and they don't know you in particular say it to both men and women.

I find it perplexing that video after video after video is posted on this site, explaining women's experience, and man after man after man post a comment arguing about it.

Please stop making this about you, my friend, and just BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY. Video after video after video .... there is something that is trying to be communicated.

Having said all this -- I have never been street harassed to the extent that these women have been. I have had folks say to me -- smile! and it hasn't been an issue. I took it the way you mean when you say it. But I don't live where they do. And I believe them when they tell their experiences, even though their experiences don't match mine.
