PS3 vs. Wii

Photo realism in video games

Working While Black in america.

I usually dislike these kind of videos because the context we are missing can skew what we are watching. I usually try and give the officers the benefit of the doubt in that case. Here, it's just plain as day the office standing in the wrong. What kind of police officer responds to a request to identify themselves by pulling out handcuffs? This is unreal and officer should be facing not only court, but the potential for jail time over this.

So if this next generation helicopter is so great, why are we only seeing a CG representation? surely they've built some sort of prototype if they can make all these claims. Or are all these fantastic benefits only available in-engine with Unreal or something?

Godless – The Truth Beyond Belief

shinyblurry says...

So...if a fetus is created from only female DNA, it would be sinless? Why aren't the church and all Christians pushing for cloning research then?

Even if it were possible, it would all be for naught once the first sin was committed. Adam didn't have a sin nature either until he committed sin.

you need infinity +1 rooms, and then you're moving into unreal numbers....not the place to be when trying to prove something is real.

You can talk to the mathematicians about it. I was only using that as a rough analogy to illustrate an idea. I can't say for sure how the mechanics of it worked, I only know that God considered it justice for all sin.

If he atoned for all sin, why is disbelief still a sin? All sin is either atoned for or not.

There is atonement for unbelief but there is something you have to do, which is repent and believe the gospel. If you're in court and the judge tells you that if you go and see the clerk and sign some paperwork he'll let you go free, and you refuse to sign the paperwork, he isn't going to let you out.

Godless – The Truth Beyond Belief

newtboy jokingly says...

If there are infinite rooms, there can never be a guest in every room without infinite guests....and if there are infinite guests, there is no room at the inn. That's what infinite means. For there to still be room, you need infinity +1 rooms, and then you're moving into unreal numbers....not the place to be when trying to prove something is real.

"Hilbert's paradox is a veridical paradox: it leads to a counter-intuitive result that is provably true. The statements "there is a guest to every room" and "no more guests can be accommodated" are not equivalent when there are infinitely many rooms."

It is a logically valid idea according to mathematicians.

Zero Punct- Quake (1)

moonsammy says...

You're absolutely correct. I loved that you could put the game disc into a standard cd player and just listen to the NIN soundtrack. Being a fan of the band and FPS games, Quake was absolutely the shit. So many hours put into it, at least up until Unreal came out.

Unity Adam Demo - real time

Empire Strikes Back - Vader to Luke in the carbonite chamber

Followed Unity 3D for a while and was quite happy to see them release version 5 for free due to the pressure Epic put on them by releasing Unreal Engine 4 for free as well. This short is definitely pretty impressive but I still think UE is the more capable engine for sure. Unity also has a very slow release cycle with a lot of promised features either being pushed to future versions or forcing users to rely on the Unity marketplace.

I know this is old, but that "Lighting needs to be rebuilt" sounds like the Unreal Engine.

Classic DOS games roundup, circa 1995

shagen454 says...

I was 13/14, games back then were magical. Anytime I was on a plane or in the car I was reading PC Gamer or CGM drooling over the demos (or shareware!), ads, previews and reviews. Remember those days? When information on gaming was largely through print?! I still remember those Dark Forces previews, I could have shot a load. PC gaming at that point really was fucking cutting edge.

1997 & 1998 also hold a special flame in gaming for me - 1997: Ultima Online (actually learned HTML and had a website for UO cuz I was a NERD), Fallout, GTA, Age of Empires, Dungeon Keeper, Quake II, Myth (incredible multiplayer component probably even still).

1998: Starcraft, Half-Life, Baldur's Gate, Thief, Grim Fandango, Fallout 2, Tribes, THIEF, Unreal, Commandos.... so many innovative games back then. Now we just build on them over and over and over again
