Obama White House Withheld Information about BP Oil Spill

Porksandwich says...

If they were serious about cleaning this up there wouldn't have been misspoken numbers for months, and they wouldn't have left BP in a position to dictate and make decisions. They would been a lot more open, and while they would have used BPs resources and some recommendations this cover up stuff wouldn't have even been considered. It really didn't matter if BP suffered financially, that's what happens when you punch a hole in the ground and don't properly manage it.......and then fail to have the capacity you claim to have to deal with the problem in a timely manner.

There were a lot of people who probably would have volunteered to work there for room and board if they had some kind of assurances that the air wasn't toxic and they would be given at least adequate protection against contact with toxins. And even more people who would have liked to be paid to clean up the mess, and I mean really clean it up. Not out there with shovels and a trash bag in white paper suits. Bring in some machinery, dig and line some trenches to divert water to where it could be treated as it came in a long the coast lines. Boom the waterways and treat the water before spilling it into the reserves and parks.

Most of the footage you saw were guys in white outfits with shovels and trash bags.....if you had a spill anywhere else in the world of petroleum based products, they'd laugh at you if you just had guys with shovels and trash bags trying to clean it up. A few guys on dozers/hoes/bobcats could replace all of those guys for a majority of the work you saw being done, handwork can not be completely replaced but the majority of it can be and much more efficiently. It would have cut the penetration time down significantly having a machine sweep it away instead of having people trying to outdig the ocean current.

And it's not as if they couldn't justify the cost of severely damaging equipment in the process of this clean up..since sand and oily grit are going to wear machines out if they are exposed to it constantly. They probably could have gotten the machines damn near donated by any of the manufacturers to get their brands on TV and in the news.

No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan

HugeJerk says...

The Happening is the most unintentionally hilarious movie ever. It's a bunch of people running from the wind because the trees are releasing a toxin that makes people kill themselves. Oh, and Marky Mark is supposed to be a smart guy.

If you try to take it seriously, it's impossible to like, but if you look at it as the most ridiculous B movie about the environment ever... it can be slightly enjoyable.>> ^deathcow:

wtf is she talking about with the trees thing

CNN: Almost All Exxon Valdez Cleanup Crew Dead

Porksandwich says...

There's more than one video floating around on this site talking about what the Exxon spill did to animals and people alike. What is said in this video is very similar to those, and all of them are from different people that I've seen. I think it's more likely that government is full of shit in anything they do to downplay it versus what these individuals are saying that are in the medical field and have been studying it trying to cure people since Exxon.

Because we already know that government and oil have not invested in new methods to clean up oil spills, so it's very unlikely they would also invest money into research on what exposure does to people during and after clean up from the Exxon.

If this oil leak is not taken of when they estimate it will be which from what I've read is late July and August for the relief wells to come online. If it keeps spilling out even with the additional wells, I don't see how anyone in this part of the world will be safe from it's effects given weather patterns and ocean currents. I saw on Craig Fergeson they had I believe his name is Jean Cousteau, son of Jacques Cousteau, who was talking about how the oil in the gulf would begin appearing in England due to the water currents and how saturated the water column is because of the disperants.

Lots of very disturbing videos out there regarding what the oil spill has done already. People on the water who were vomiting over the side because the fumes from the water was cutting off the oxygen and causing nausea. Fish so disoriented they were swimming into boats, swimming on their sides and upside down with their mouths sticking out of the water trying to breath. No sightings of dolphins in Florida for a long while, so they are either dead, dieing, or left the area. Kids breaking out in rashes who mysteriously recover shortly after leaving the areas in proximity to tainted zones. Fishermen who are aiding in the clean up, coming down with upper respiratory problems, going to their doctors and being told their lungs look like they've been smoking 3 packs a day when they are in fact non-smokers.

The same responders who at 911 telling people they should wear respirators for the clean up, who say that firemen who refused to wear them in 911 rescues came down with "the crud" from exposure to toxins. They say every person helping clean up the oil spill is offered a respirator, but BP took over distribution of them. And they won't allow people to have respirators without proper training in how to use them, which they will provide. But they won't begin the training until they feel people need the respirators. So you have the right to a respirator, they will give you one when you are trained, but they won't provide training until you need one. Makes perfect sense, like everything else associated with the handling of this.

Crops are diseased and dieing already from just the rain carrying the chemicals used to "clean up" the oil spill. I can't imagine that people out on the water aren't already severely exposed to these same chemicals if it can travel via water evaporation into the clouds to come down as rain...it has to be in the air for them all.

From other sources, they call exposure in Exxon and 911 "the crud" or "The Exxon crud". And people exposed to it have it for the rest of their life and eventually die because of it. I could see people in 911 being exposed just because it was a fast response situation and people were trying to do the right thing in a very short period of time. But there is no excuse for what is happening now, especially with the Exxon spill being there as evidence and proof of what can and will happen to people exposed to the oil and the chemicals used in it's clean up. A disaster caused by BP for money/time saving measures is one thing, but then allowing people trying to help contain a problem they had nothing to do with but bear all of the consequences of it to become ill and probably die from their efforts to help....that's something that can not stand.

CBS: Bobby Jindal is Full of Sh*t

Porksandwich says...

It seems as if the governor were causing delays and saying the opposite of what is true, they could just simply declare him a threat to the people. Seems like if someone "in charge" of the situation whether it's the president or an military body/individual could write a clear letter stating the resources he has at his disposal and giving him a couple days to come up with a plan. If he starts delaying again, take initiative and remove him from the equation and place a small group of representatives from the areas actually affected in charge of a plan..and helping them carry it out while the governor looks the fool.

Because surely any action to clean up any of the oil is a good action, as long as the people doing the tasks are outfitted properly to maintain their health and safety. If the air is potentially toxic, use appropriate masks or respirators. If the ground is toxic, make certain they use proper suits and coverings to prevent exposure. If the governor said he wasn't deploying the troops because they didn't have those items available for that many people to keep them safe from exposure, I would believe it. But since he hasn't stated any such thing, they need to re-examine any information he may or may not be aware of and take extra precaution with those who are in direct contact or close proximity to potentially life threatening toxins carried in the oil, water, and soil now.

Worst possible thing they could do is continue letting tourists swim in this oily water and not be certain that there are no health risks in doing so. If the deployments are scaring tourists off, well good on them...when those states who only had 58 people out there helping have tourists coming down with respiratory illnesses and other things similar to Exxon volunteers...they'll wish they had scared tourists off.

Alex Jones Interview of Lindsey Williams on Oil Spill Truth

ghark says...

My god, there are toxins in oil? No shit. they dragged out a 5 minute speech for nearly an hour, what a waste of time.

Here are the cliffnotes:

The pressure in the well far exceeded normal well pressures, possibly up to 70,000 psi (normally it's more like 1,200), bursting all the safety valves

H2S safe levels 5 ppb - in air currently (measured by EPA) 1200 ppb
benzene safe levels 0-4ppb - in air 3000 ppb
methylene chloride safe levels 61ppb - current levels 3000-3400 ppb

This is terrible news (the radio show), there are a few peices of good info but the scare tactics are so very annoying, it's as if they think their audience has an average IQ of < 40. Oh nm i listened further, after about the 40 minute mark Lindsay Williams reveals his religious beliefs and how the rich elite are part of the occult and other exciting things, now I know why he speaks the way he does.

iPhone Manufacturer raises wages to stem employee suicides

spawnflagger says...

Well, it's either a fast suicide now, or long drawn-out painful death of cancer, inevitable due to the harsh toxins they are exposed to daily. Manufacturing printed circuit boards, integrated circuits, etc is a pretty hazardous operation.

Also, the rich manufacturing guy was being criticized, but not the rich bigwigs at Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Dell.

If foxconn wasn't making the products cheap, another chinese manufacturer would have been given the contract. If the iPad was made in USA, it would probably cost $2000+ (and that would be from a highly automated robotic assembly line).

Is it Poisonous or Venomous? O_O

I wondered the same, and most people don't know the difference, but it appears poisonous is the right adjective. The toxin is present in its skin and feathers due to its diet rather than being produced by its own body.

Fantastic Fluoride

ButterflyKisses says...

>> ^marinara:
BFkisses, why you asking about fluoride? r u a mother or something?

on t
I became interested in this topic after seeing the news report by Team 5 about the issues they're having with Chinese purchased fluoride. I was kind of surprized to find out that they haven't yet figured out what the insoluable substance is yet. It's as if safeguards are not in place to ensure the quality of this "additive" to our water supply.

I like to drink water, as I'm sure everyone does. Does one really need a reason be concerned about the quality of the most essential element that our body needs?

Anyway, they say it's safe and good for us but I wonder if that's entirely true. I've seen lots of cases for the banning of fluoride and the extremely negative response by the "Science" channel administrator here on the sift about any claims that it's unsafe so I thought I'd find some information that supports Fluoride. I was hoping to find a video that would prove the case that it's a truly a great idea to add this chemical into our water, however the case "for" fluoride seems a bit weak and there appears to be contradictory evidence by those whom oppose fluoride, yet this research is generally disregarded by individuals that are for fluoridation.

I can understand the case for wanting to reduce cavities for the population yet I'm not so sure the safeguards are in place to prevent poor quality fluoride from being used (obviously since the fluoride from china hasn't been tested and we've been told it's safe). I also have an issue with the fact that this fluoride is essentially a toxic waste byproduct.

What exactly constitutes "pharmaceutical-grade" and "industrial-grade" fluoride? Is it the same thing? Does industrial-grade contain other toxic elements comparatively? These seem like important questions, seeing as we all NEED to drink water to live and they add this toxin to our water.

Am I being irrational in my thinking? Do we have the right to question these things? Are there special interests involved that promote the use of fluoride?
