Public Shaming
I agree that mob mentality and internet anonymity are a toxic combination, and for that alone his point is well made that public shaming is bound to end badly for everyone involved.
however, its hard to take the video seriously when he fails to address at all the failure of police and the justice system. He talks about bringing powerful people to justice as if it were a bad thing, in fact Larry Nassar's name comes up in the video as he makes the point- are you really suggesting that its a bad thing that a guy who raped dozens of girls- while representing your country no less- be exposed and brought to justice for his despicable behavior?
as for palmer, he complied with the law but the law sucked, and he knew what he was doing. he went to the border of a national park and shot a lion that had a GPS collar because it was under study, you'd think a good hunter would spot that. He didnt care because he travelled half way round the world and paid good money to bring himself back a lion skin- should he be immune from criticism just because he didnt break the law? The people who put signs and flowers didnt break the law either by that standard, only the ones who vandalized his property. maybe its just a matter of the justice system actually working so that mob justice is unnecessary??
We Believe: The Best Men Can Be - Gillette Ad
I'm sure they will gain more overall customers because they are owned by Proctor & Gamble. As I mentioned originally, there will be plenty of women and white knights who jump at the chance to support a company who decided to tag along onto the #metoo movement.
To me, that is part of the reason why I dislike this commercial so much. Not just because of it's huge and sweeping generalizations (practically every scene has one), but because their ad department had to know that an edgy commercial would do the same thing for them as it did for Nike. Does anyone think that the majority of actual corporate level people at Gillette/P&G give two fucks about #metoo? I know I don't.
It's just an ad targeted at a huge group of people that are easy to take potshots at currently. I find it little different than attack ads run by fucktards that want to condemn all Muslims for the act of terrorists or fundamentalist jihadists. The most screwed up thing about that analogy is that, realistically, there are largish groups of Islamic people that actually will cheer and throw celebrations when there is a terrorist attack. Yet you would be hard put to find large swaths of men out in the streets cheering on the effects of so called Toxic Masculinity.
Yes, we as men need to speak out. We need to support the evolution of mankind away from barbarism. But we don't need to succumb to propaganda that tries to purport that a man seeing a pretty lady walk past shouldn't attempt to say hi or introduce himself to her because that is bad. This ad, with one of the sweeping generalizations I mentioned earlier, would have you think that it is HORRIBLE for a man to do that and that a 'responsible' man would body check that guy. Because men should never try to meet women, only remain passive and allow the woman to come to them. I say fuck that, it is wrong to catcall women, but there is nothing wrong with going up and saying hi. This ad (and some other internet videos) would have you think it's the equivalent of throwing the lady down in the middle of a crowded walkway and having your way with her.
The ad could have been better, there were moments like the Terry Crews scene that I agree with, but they took the easy way out and just slammed men in general.
Gillette is betting on the theory that they will gain far more new customers than they lose over this.....just like Nike using Kaepernick. It worked for Nike despite the over the top vocal outrage and videos of burning $500 sneakers, I think Gillette expects similar results.

Yeah, heaven forfend we end up with a generation of men who think women deserve respect or that violence is a last resort.
That’d be a fucking nightmare.
Toxic masculinity is absolutely a thing, and it harms men as much as women.
But it’s called “toxic” masculinity for a reason. If I said “shit this toxic water is killing us”, would you think I was implying that ALL water is toxic? Of course not. There’s nothing wrong with masculinity or masculine behaviour. But when you define aggressive, predatory behaviour as “masculine” then of course all masculinity is bad. But the problem isn’t masculinity, it’s your fucked up definiton of it. Hence the differentiator “toxic”.
TL;DR don’t be an asshole and no one will bother you for just being a man.
Lets tun boys into boys, not men.
Liberals want a Soyboy Nation of men.
Shame on Gillette for this ad.

I'm content that his toxicity has energised people to work against misogyny, sex abuse, and bullying, I just hope they're more influential than he is and don't take a toxic turn themselves.
It's easy to become what you despise in one's fight against injustices.
Funny thing about anger. It generates energy. Pure unadulterated energy. Much like a nuclear reactor. It can be somewhat of a gift. Anyone can do anything they desire with that energy. What a person chooses to do with that power can strengthen them and others or destroy them and others.
Don't let Trump destroy you.
Let's Talk About That Gillette Ad...
I'm reluctant to agree too much with each other, especially on something that's apparently controversial. That said, a simple string of Trump tweets and finishing with his "grab them by the p****" audio would have been more powerful. You don't have a more cut and tried example of "toxic masculinity" sitting at the top of the patriarchy than him. If you invented the example 5 years ago people would have derided it as too outrageously over the top and calling for something a little more realistic.
I thought they should have included Trump publicly bragging about....well, every single bad behavior mentioned and then some.
He is in the position of exemplar in chief but has utterly failed to live up to it for even a single second. This could/should be directed right at him.
It did seem to me they directed this at all men, a few of whom they think act appropriately sometimes. I identify with the guys stepping in, and I still think this ad targeted my gender, not a few bad actors, and much worse it implied these bad behaviors aren't perpetrated by women, which is just ridiculous and false.

It is about blaming things on something someone made up called 'toxic masculinity'. Please explain to me why we have so many 'issues' with it here in the USA when there are countries like Spain and others where it is considered OK to be masculine?
I feel we can narrow it down to one simple factor, a collegiate system in which we are now taught that everything white is bad, everything male is bad, and everything conservative is bad. There is no backlash on this because if you complain, YOU ARE THE TOXIC PERSON!
Let me give you an example and bear in mind that I think Trump may be the worst president we have had. Jim Carrey, who is notably liberal and PC (lately anyway) created a painting comparing people who voted for Trump to apes. A de-evolution artwork. Hardly a peep from anyone, but if you compared other groups to apes you would be branded a racist and more. It's perfectly fine to take potshots at anything liberal people consider to be bad, but god help you if you do it to something they care about.
tl;dr I think it is a stupid fucking commercial that they put out to increase sales with Proctor & Gambles female slanted brands. They might lose a few razor related sales, but there are a shitload of white knights out there that will fall in line to argue that men are just assholes and should be beaten down to accept their new role. Since I use an old fashioned safety razor from Merkur, I can't boycott them, but I would if I could.
It's not about Trump.
This is about changing the course of men who have been following an outdated map.
Steve Schmidt on Trump 'Stoking And Inciting' Worst Among Us
Steve Schmidt and Kevin Philips both piss me the hell off.
Both are directly responsible for the dissolution of rational discourse in American politics. Both have done incalculable -- and perhaps irreversible -- damage to America's democracy. Both said damn the consequences when they were conniving to force their toxic ideology on the American people.
Now they both have religion when everything's gone to shit.
To their credits, both have tried to atone for their sins -- Phillips with his book "American Theocracy"; Schmidt with his renunciation of the GOP and everything it stands for -- but the damage has already been done.
Phillips and Schmidt are both incredibly intelligent men and as such, they should have known better. That they're trying trying to clean up their mess is laudable, but that they made it in the first place -- and fucked all of us in making it -- is utterly galling.
Plot Twist
Oh I don't know, you're just shifting from the weather on the outside to the weather on the inside. Still highly toxic with a chance of tears.
That discovery seemed to make him happier. After all, he can't control the air.
Retractions: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
This guy is toxic. While he has the ability to make some really valid points, he is very misguided. There is a reason why the US broke up with England.
Why Tesla is building city-sized batteries
Nice to finally hear pumped hydro mentioned when discussing energy storage.
Sure, it takes space, but it's non toxic, proven, doesn't bleed off like compressed air, and doesn't wear out every 10 years. Chemical batteries should be just for quick load shifts with hydro used for the majority of energy storage, imo.
Doctors Urge Americans: GO VEGAN!
Dude you are so toxic.... trying to now bait me into arguing about the definition of plant based lol because I didn't engage with your FOX news like hyperbole above, you figured you'd keep poking until you at least get something.
All I can say is thanks, because every time your reply you help spread this vegan message.
Yes, if you agree what's meant by "plant based diet" is not the same as vegetarian or vegan, and mostly denotes excluding most processed foods from your diet and including more fruits and vegetables.
What makes this song great? System of a Down
Note: Toxicity is the album, the song is "Chop Suey!".
Love this band. Mezmerize is one of the few CDs I can listen to every song all the way through. "Sad Statue" is even more poignant nowadays.
Officer pulls over daughter's boyfriend
I don't think he really does care for her!
She's a possession of his, and that's all.
This is the same abusive behavior men display when they abuse their spouse. It's purely about power and control. He never once stopped to think about her feelings, thoughts, opinions, of her future.
This is how a jolted lover acts when his girlfriend leaves him for someone else. Using force against someone's will to get their own way at any cost. and it's always the cost of others.
Abusive people need to be stopped. Let's all just be thankful this was on dash cam. They got the evidence they needed to proove he isn't fit to be in the authority role of a Police Officer.
Lets hope this footage and proceedings gives that girl the chance to make the decisions needed to remove this toxicity from her life.
It is a shame that he abused his power and position as a police officer, because I really believe he cares for his daughter's well being. He probably doesn't know how to show it, and that's unfortunate for both of them.
Brake Cleaner Fluid Vs Monster Energy Drink
I usually just sort of use whatever is to hand. Butane, rubbing alcohol, gasoline, carb cleaner, but these are all pretty flammable and/or toxic (WD-40 is good for some things, but then *that* is hard to clean off). If Monster works, that sounds good. So, like, does Doctor Pepper or Coke work too? I don't care for Monster, but I can drink the rest of the Doctor Pepper. Mountain Dew if I have to.
Judge Cristina Perez - Neighborhood Watch v HighSchool Kid
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_for_All_with_Judge_Cristina_Perez
Justice for All is a staged court show. At the end of the program, a standard disclaimer is shown which states that "All characters displayed are fictional and any resemblance to actual persons is coincidental."
If i had known it was all made up i surely wouldn't have voted for something so toxic.
@lucky760 can you please remove my vote(if possible).
Not sure how he's a trigger happy vigilante...do shovels have triggers now?
It's worth mentioning this is likely scripted, and not real. A real defendant would be insane to volunteer that race was such a factor, or that he attacked a kid with a weapon from behind.
Googling their names, or neighborhood watch attack with shovel turns up nothing. Seems like this would have been big news if it happened.
Color me suspicious.
