DST is the *change* from your standard timezone. Otherwise you wouldn't touch the clocks all year. There's no "winter time". That's just the end of DST.

So that's everyone in the world except......Iceland. I quite literally live a 30 minute drive from Greenwich but for half the year I'm not in it's timezone.

The astrophysicists need to be able to reliably predict when leap seconds will be needed and then the world switch to a UTC which is on a four week cycle with no leap year bullcrap.

Edit in fact I'd ditch the whole hour minute thing altogether and mark each day as a percantage. That would negate the UTC weirdness and instead of going to work 9-5 you'd go 37.5 - 70.8 or in utc for new york (gmt-4 currently) 20.8 - 54.1

I have a question for @dag or @lucky760 regarding the given job offer. Is there a restriction or preference regarding international applicants ? ( timezone issues, ... )

I'm fine with powers pretty much as they are.
The key powers that make this site are: being able to submit (Video), and being able to vote (Sift).
I have no problem with members who have not invested much time submitting videos being severely limited in their ability to tinker with other people's submissions. Perhaps they should have more control over their own submissions.
..and since we are all airing our grievances: The biggest issue I have seen with the site lately, is that videos that don't immediately shoot to the top of the hotlist get lost in the ether, and end up getting P-qued. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the loss of the Top Ten Expiring Soon list. I'd love to see that come back. Without it, members need to think a lot about what time of day they submit a video, lest it be lost forever. That is not only annoying, but it probably biases submissions from certain global timezones. The alternative is self-promoting, which I've been doing a lot lately, but that feels dirty.

I've had a look at her other video's and I honestly can't tell if she's trolling or not. It's pretty over the top but it isn't anything that I haven't seen from other really devout christians either. So no telling. That said...

If God really did it why did he wait so long? Why not the day of? Why not make it a really notable time, like at midnight or noon (in that timezone) on the dot? Oh wait your going to start spouting some crap about how he didn't want to be "to obvious" or something aren't you. Or maybe he just wanted to see how many people he could get to offer up those prayers before he did it. But isn't he all knowing? He knew ahead of time what would happen soooo why wait? Take your murdering psychopath and shove it.

That or the date is set wrong, like most digital cameras on the planet. The fact that the timezone was never set seems to indicate that.

I'm not saying their evidence is reliable, but just that that doesn't do much to disprove it. But I wouldn't think carrying body armor condemns them, any more than being found in possession of helmets.

I don't have a twitter account and I don't plan on creating one any time soon, but if anything will finally persuade me to do it, it's going to be my desire to be included in the flow of communication surrounding important events, not its primary function: an exercise in narcissism.

all this is crap. Edeot you say this is complicated then you write 4 tweaks. sagemind it doesn't matter how wonderful your tweaks might be, the whole thing is too complicated. None of the features we have added here have really improved the situation. Comment voting didn't improve the comments here, for example.

jonny on the other hand proposed sweeping away some of the crap here, not tweaking the crap. we can all sit here and debate various tweaks forever, and it will be useless. What we need is to simplify. an automatic system that gives all videos an "airing" of equal exposure, regardless of timezones, and which does away with all these queues, publish dates, republish dates and invocations is a GOOD idea. Simplicity is beauty and efficiency.

to get rid of some of these clunky features and replace them with a simpler system is a good idea. to "improve" the clunky features is impossible. it was a mistake to build them in the first place. i mean, i don't even KNOW all the rules and invocations in this place any more, i got bored trying to keep track of it.

And time zone bias really really sucks.
