Marcus Bachmann says Radio Interview was Doctored

Emergency Tracheotomy

>> ^doogle:

In what situation would I need to do this?
That would be helpful. Apart from "for fun".

Watch the video again, from the beginning, where it says "Indications." What follows is a list of situations in which this procedure is "indicated" (or "prescribed," or whatever layman's term for "you only do this when this situation occurs.") I can break them down for ya.

If you are ever in a situation where you find someone unconsious, with a pulse, but no signs breathing, you need to establish why they are not breathing. There are training videos and classes on this sort of thing, and I highly recommend everyone not only do so, but stay on top of new data and findings. Even just recently CPR guidelines have changed - mouth-to-mouth is only really necessary for drowning victims. Cardiac arrest is usually the cause of most instantaneous medical emergencies, and keeping steady chest compression rhythm to manually pump the heart is more important to saving the brain and oxygen-dependent tissues M2M breaths should only be administered once or twice every 30 compressions or so.

Anyway, to break things down:

"Severe Maxilofacial trauma" Nasty wounds to the jaw and mouth that prevent mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-airbag contact.

"Severe Bleeding to the airway/oropharynx" Just another big word for hole on everyone's face that is their mouth extending back into their vocal chords. Blood and/or clotting is preventing breathing. CPR would force blood into the lungs in a bad way.

"Foreign matter in upper airway" They've got something lodged in their throat, far enough in that you can simply pull it out with your fingers, or you can't get them to a position to "heimlich" them (not that we use the Heimlich maneuver anymore - there's a similar, more modern-science-informed method).

"Edema secondary to burns to the face and airway" Edema is another word for swelling. Again, you can't mouth-to-mouth or to-airbag over burn wounds, and sometimes your throat can swell shut from burns, be they burns from fire or chemical.

The last couple should be self-explanitory.

What then follows are a list of "Contraindications" or situations in which you should AVOID this procedure. In medicine, these are important. For example, massaging someone's swollen legs after they just landed from an airplane flight is contraindicated, as leg swelling is a sign on deep-vein thrombosis. Failure to identify and accommodate contraindications will could lead to patient death exposing you to legal and civil liability. And the guilt of knowing you killed someone you were trying to help.

I'm not a doctor. I'm just a certified massage therapist with over 600 hours of training in massage-oriented anatomy, physiology, pathology and ethics, among other important lessons. I have no authority to make diagnoses.. But my massage school gave me enough information to know when I could potentially harm someone, and how to identify those situations should they arise in my practice.

From Box Turtle:

In this episode, CNN tracks down George Rekers, the therapist who treated four-year-old Kirk Murphy and turned him into Rekers’s poster boy for ex-gay therapy. Here we see Rekers learning about Kirk’s suicide at the age of 38. He responds by saying that there is no evidence that Kirk’s suicide was the result of Kirk’s treatment. He also tries to exonerate himself by saying:

Two independent psychologists of me had evaluated him and said he was better adjusted after treatment. So it wasn’t my opinion.

According to Rekers’s writings, two psychologists followed up with Kirk when Kirk was fifteen. As I wrote in our newest epilogue, The Doctor’s Word:

Buried in a footnote, Rekers wrote, “I express my appreciation to Drs. Larry N. Ferguson and Alexander C. Rosen for their independent evaluations.” By 1979, Ferguson was working as a research psychologist at Logos Research Institute, a conservative religious-based think tank that Rekers had founded in 1975. With Rekers as his employer, Ferguson’s participation in such an evaluation could not be seen as independent. As for Rosen, he had been Rekers’s longstanding colleague at UCLA: the two of them co-wrote at least fourteen papers — including three defending the kind of treatment Kirk received at UCLA against growing criticism. Rosen may not have been as personally invested in Kirk’s reported outcome as Rekers, but he was certainly invested in UCLA’s reputation.

Rosen has since passed away. Ferguson told CNN that the family was well-adjusted and he didn’t see any “red flags” with Kirk. But when Kirk was fifteen, the family was falling apart, with Kirk’s father was drinking heavily and leaving the family — hardly the picture of a well-adjusted family. As for not seeing any red flags with Kirk, his sister Maris had a ready answer: “He was conditioned to say what he thought they wanted to hear.”

But there was one set of independent evaluations that Rekers wasn’t a part of. Those occurred when Dr. Richard Green interviewed Kirk at the age of seventeen and eighteen for his 1987 book, The Sissy Boy Syndrome. That’s where we learn that at Kirk was still attracted to men, was deeply conflicted over those attractions, had engaged in an anonymous sexual encounter with a man, and tried to commit suicide because of it. For the remainder of Rekers’s career, he would never acknowledge what was uncovered in the The Sissy Boy Syndrome interviews. As far as Rekers was concerned, those interviews never happened and “Kraig”, his pseudonym for Kirk, remained a success story.

Anthony Weiner - THE PICTURE WAS OF ME & I SENT IT

Conservatives get grilled because they attempt to legislate people's sex lives and they campaign on family values platforms. So when the same guy that's trying to get anti-gay legislation passed, is trolling for a BJ in an airport bathroom, or trying to impeach the president for cheating on his wife while he's busy having marital 'indiscretions'; gets caught they deserve every ounce of heat they get.

Conservatives get grilled either way. Therefore, no mercy for Weiner. Sweep the leg!

>> The real question is why should anyone--left or right--should get a free pass for hypocrisy? Liberals do all the time. They've got their lapdog media covering their arses. The average liberal was likely 'disappointed' by Swill Clinton abusing his power, forcing women to fellate him or lose their jobs. Guess what? CRIME. Algore committed no crime but came close, scaring the crap out of that plain jane massage therapist when he tried coercing her to 'release his chakras'.

Yes, the gaypublican trolling for action while supporting anti-gay measures is a hypocrite, just like the San Fran liberals who all own guns but demand strict gun control for everyone else.

Homeless Man With Golden Radio Voice

Trancecoach says...

the "powerlessness" over one's addiction in AA does not presume one's powerlessness in one's life in general. Rather, just the opposite: one recognizes one's powerlessness over addiction in order to gain the control and power over one's life that had created the addiction in the first place. Heck, the entire serenity prayer is about seeking acceptance of the things one cannot change, the courage to change the things one can, and the wisdom to know the difference... If only more people -- addicts or not -- could say such things and mean it.

(Edit: I know this because I'm a therapist who works with many folks who struggle with chemical dependency and addiction -- and not all of them are to illegal substances. Some addictions -- such as with shopping, or working, or pornography, or sex in general -- are generally accepted if not downright condoned... which adds an entirely new wrinkle to what is already a complex issue.)

>> ^blankfist:

I wish he wouldn't "hope" as much as he would actively "look" for a job. But that's probably a side effect of the 12 steps of AA indoctrination, if he's actually in that program, which teaches they're powerless over their addiction and that only a "higher power" can help them overcome it.
Yes I know I just assumed a lot about this man.

How satisfied are you with your job? (User Poll by peggedbea)

peggedbea says...

I'm a massage and aquatic therapist for people with physical disabilities (and sometimes accompanying intellectual disabilities)
I provide intensive in home behavioral and life skills support to a woman with a physical disability, an intellectal disability and major behavioral challenges
I work with adolescent boys with autism and asperger's fostering social skills, broadening their scopes of interest and focusing on dealing with stress and anxiety.
And I also babysit a man who is blind and has autism a few times a month. He's my super buddy.

My job is awesome cause it allows me to tap into the things I'm best at in life. I don't have to sit in anyone place for very long, I go somewhere different everyday and do something different everyday and have creative control over the activities. I basically have no "boss", I have set of standards and am accountable to the state for proper documentation and following ethical guidelines, but I don't have to "check in" with anyone. My schedule is between me and my clients. As a single mom, that's something thats invaluable to me. If my kids get sick, I just call my clients and reschedule, there are no "write ups" or "attendance policies" and "tardiness" isn't an issue. If I get stuck in traffic I just call and say "hey, give me 5 minutes". I will never be written up for being 5 minutes late 3 times within 3 months ever again. I also, the most appropriate thing to wear just happens to be sweat pants and tshirt. fuck yes!! i work in my pajamas.

down sides: It doesn't pay enough and I have no benefits package or worker's compensation insurance.

Are Christians the New Persecuted?

Samaelsmith says...

I'd say that the sex therapist is homophobic. I mean if he can't give advice to gay couples because of his religion, that sounds like he is doing a bit of persecuting himself. And this isn't even getting into the subject of gay marriage, just couples.

Secular liberal humanism and radical Islam tolerate each other? HA!

You don't think restricting how people communicate inhibits the development of our culture?

Depends on what you mean by "restrict". If you mean send people to jail for saying things people don't like, yeah, I think that's bad.

Instead, if you mean that no one should ever be allowed to say "what you said is hurtful, and I don't think you should say things like that", I think that you really have to apply the freedom of speech equally. You're free to say whatever you want, but you're going to have to accept the things other people say in response because they have freedom of speech too.

If you're a radio show host, and you say a bunch of racist shit, you shouldn't be thrown in jail. However, if your employer wants to fire you for that, you shouldn't get some legal immunity from that either. You definitely don't have the right to restrict the speech of others who express their disapproval of what you said, nor those who express the view that saying racist things like that just isn't proper.

>> ^gorillaman:

Look here, say someone we know doesn't have a problem with black people calls a black guy a nigger. This black guy doesn't have any unresolved issues with his race or identity. What's left to complain about?

This is pretty wrong-headed. Unresolved issues? You make it sound like black people all need to go to a therapist or something, because there can't possibly be legitimate reasons for them to be offended by being called a nigger.

Let me pretend for a moment you meant that we're talking about a couple of old friends, one is white, one is black, and they call each other nigger all the time as a term of endearment. As long as they're okay with it, I'm okay with it.

But what if they're walking down the street, and a passing black woman overhears the white guy call the black guy nigger, and gets upset?

IMO, she's got every right to voice her discontent, and the friends have every right to tell her to go fuck herself...or explain, or just walk away.

I'd rather the friends be a bit more sensitive about the feelings of people who might overhear them, and I've got every right to say so to all three of them, and they've got every right to tell me where I can shove it in response.
