So why's everyone down on the Matrix trilogy? (Scifi Talk Post)

spawnflagger says...

The problem with the 2nd movie was that it wasn't the first movie.
The problem with the 3rd movie was that they turned Neo into Jesus.

But I saw all 3 in theaters and bought all 3 on dvd, so WB and the Wachowski brothers are crying all the way to the bank, and they don't really care what we think.

Animatrix was actually quite good. The stories were (mostly) on par with the first matrix movie, it's just missing the ground-breaking special effects because it's animated.

I played through the first single player game as well, it was ok. Never touched the MMORPG'r though, or it's "path of neo" re-hash.

Halo Legends Anime Trailer

Actually, this is starting to make sense now..

There seems to be a trend with this sort of thing happening

Animatrix for the third matrix movie, Gothem Knight for The Dark Knight, and now this is coming out before Halo: Reach.

Interesting they're taking that route to advertise for a video game though.

Oh I have seen Animatrix many times. I think it's great but I also think a lot of the history in "The Second Renaissance" is mis- or dis-information.

I read somewhere that the matrix was supposed to be three parts but the second movie was split into two because there was too much to fit in... so we're still waiting for part three.
I thought all 3 were phenomenal. Except for the Zion rave scene.

That's strange. I was always under the assumption that The Matrix was supposed to be one movie. And that two and three were only thought up (badly) after the huge success of the first one.

budzos, that does seem like a good way to have made II and III. You must have seen Animatrix which does delve into the history between man and machine somewhat and is also much better than Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions.

ahhhh CRAP i didn't really watch it, just checked that it at least worked. ok, replaced with that dailymotion part 1 clip.

That's a bummer about the blocked version.

I was hoping you'd avoid that youtube one - it cuts off the beginning with that funky cross walk music.

In reply to this comment by berticus:
yup, it's region blocked, so fuck 'em. replaced with another youtube clip for now.

hey - your Animatrix video is dead. I know you have it posted in two parts (and the second one is currently still alive), but Dailymotion has the whole thing in one video - and the best part is, it's posted by WB, i.e., the copyright holder licensed North American distributor (it might be blocked?). The sad part is that is has a crummy 30 second commercial at the beginning, and I don't think dailymotion supports any sort of 'start' parameter.

If you want to stick with part 1, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7nlm, looks like a good copy.

And, btw, I totally agree - this is definitely the best of the Animatrix shorts. Classic Morimoto.

Robot Carnival "Nightmare"

Watchmen Trailer

budzos says...

I too wish they never tried. I resent the fact that the general public is going to feel they "get" something relatively obscure, for which I took the time and effort to become intimately acquainted back when I was a teenager. It's like they're invading my happy little culture niche. Although I anticipate it will remove a small part of the stigma from being a comic book fan.

I recently re-read the Watchmen and it was probably the best lazy Sunday in years.

One thing that's pretty cool is they're going to release a companion DVD a-la Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight, which'll have the pirate comic in animated form, or told with live action stylized to a more antiquated comic book look than the movie proper.

I have my ticket for a VIP adults-only screening of Dark Knight at noon tomorrow. They have big huge leather seats in the VIP, which combined with the no kids thing makes it worth an extra $4 to me. Oh and the best part is reserved seating, so you don't need to line up like a schmuck for hours beforehand in order to get a good seat.

Dupe or not dupe? (Sift Talk Post)

Raytrace says...

I think clips from longer videos already on the sift should be dupes. But longer videos of clips already on sift aren't dupes.

But i guess that sorta makes the shorter clip a 'dupe' technically since it has the same content. Ah.. I give up.

On another note, someone sifted the Opening fight from Final Flight of the Osiris which should have been a dupe of the full video sifted earlier, especially since the fight is right at the beginning of it. But the full video got deaded and fixed with a wrong embed (some music video crap) instead.

So what happens when someone fixes a dead sift with the wrong video?

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but it was bugging me.
