DUNE – Final Trailer

Pedestrian Question - Do You Have a Black Friend?

cloudballoon says...

Most of Kimmel's viral videos (except the teary eye ones) are offensive like these. His Mean Tweets segments are the worse. These enable trolls to have a field day to say the most offensive things to celebrity.

I get that celebrities need to eat some humble pies, but not this way. Not cool.

Just plain don't like both Jimmies.

Personally, I find the question itself offensive.

Now I'm not the type of person who gets offended, but the question is set up in a way that just plain sounds degrading to any friend you may know. It's setting the friend up to be there purely because they are black - the token black friend.

I just think there is a much better way to have phrased the question.

Restored 1967 Footage Of Saturn V Space Rocket Launch

ChaosEngine says...

How amazing and beautiful is that?

Not just on a surface level, although the sheer spectacle is still wondrous to behold.

But the *engineering behind it, the ambition, the unbelievable cajones on the three guys sitting atop a giant missile, the co-operation of basically an entire nation working to build something to advance the frontiers of humanity.... damn, I get teary-eyed just watching it.

Even if the motivations were ultimately political (beating those pesky reds!), sometimes we can still do the right thing for the wrong reasons.

*doublepromote one of mankind's finest hours.

How one tweet can ruin your life - Jon Ronson

ulysses1904 says...

Makes me think of the guy who videotaped the woman at the Chick-Fil-A drive thru, figuring he would be lauded as a hero for challenging someone who worked for that company. And it backfired and he became unemployed because of his "principles", which was pretty much what he expected of that woman. And then he played the victim. But he brought it on himself, the woman who tweeted about AIDS in Africa is a whole other story.

Now that everyone has the power to self-publish and broadcast just about anything to the entire world I'm seeing the power that it unleashes in others. I posted a comment on an unsolicited news posting in my FB feed, regarding the Pulitzer Prize picture of the black woman holding out her hands to be handcuffed by the police in riot gear. And everyone in the comment section is going predictably teary-eyed and goose pimply over it, with the usual cliches of iconic, defining, inspiring, uplifting, etc.

And I wrote "don't be so easily manipulated, it's stagey and predictable and Kardashians use this shit to sell sugar water." or something like that. My point being that we have gone from prize-winning pictures of the Viet Nam war (e.g.) to the whole process being co-opted by pop culture, like everything and anything else. Of course I got bombarded with claims of racism and people who pitied my soul. And some were musing on whether to try to track down my employer. I deleted my comment, this world has gotten too fucking weird for me.

Girl Taken from Pot Smoking Parents & Murdered by Foster Mom

deedub81 says...

Holy WOW. I can't believe how you all blame the state for this, and yet you vote for and defend 'big government' political candidates (left and right). Take my guns away, give up my privacy in the name of homeland security, outlaw everything.

This is a tragedy. The government is scary. Imagine them taking your kid away for a small time thing like smoking pot. I've had my freedom removed from me for a CLERICAL ERROR. Our most sacred rights in this country are voluntarily forfeited because we don't trust our neighbors.

At the end of the day, this is really the fault of that sick foster "mom."

Sad, sad, sad. I got teary eyed about this, too.

We have tried that, and also tried getting them to choose which old ones they don't like to get rid of before getting new toys at Christmas. The occasional toy has just been "lost" before the kids could get attached to it, if we weren't as keen on it as the person giving it... oops, did I say that out loud?

My wife did make the mistake of leaving the bag of old stuff to donate out where sticky beaked children could have a look inside, and then we had a very teary child who was devastated that his old slippers (that no longer fit!!!) were going to be donated... so beware!

UsesProzac said:

Oh, man. I really identify with that right now. @seltar had a good idea to put the toys in a box and hide the box away and if the kid asks for a toy, give it, but get rid of whatever the kid has already forgotten about. I'm going to try it. The toy situation is getting out of hand!

Drone Strikes: Where Are Obama's Tears For Those Children?

Fletch says...

I commented on YT a couple days ago....

"Cenk, how do you know he isn't "teary-eyed" about innocents dying in drone strikes? I think the problem is that there are so few Americans anywhere who are "teary-eyed" about it. Hypocrisy and arrogance are the result of our true national religion... exceptionalism."

Silence on the Power Point limitation? (Money Talk Post)

mintbbb says...

I can understand that some people will be upset because there will be a limit of how many promotes one can fire up. But, with the new promotes, is that really that much of a factor?

I do love having a video of my being promoted, but when it happened, it was like 'OMG! Thank you! Somebody really liked that video!' I felt like It didn't happen because my video didn't sift and went to pq. It didn't happen in return of me promoting somebody else's video. It didn't happen because I am a nice person.

I know people like to work together and get all this promoting and working together - thing going on. I know lots of nice people deserve to have success in VS. I know I tend to vote on some people's videos because they vote on mine. But that's still fine. I come online in the morning, look for certain submissions and vote on them, unless they are too weird for me, submit a buch of stuff and go on my merry way. I rarely promote (and I do not want to tell howe many power points I still have). You might think I am am b**ch for not promoting and upvoting enough. But as nice as VS is, I do not want it to take over my life. I already had EQ, WOW and almost SWTOR do that.. Changes might seem bad, but they happen.

Maybe I am the b**ch queen of VS, but I am a loner. I appreciate every vote, quality and promote, and I never seem to return the favor enough. And I take the downvotes personally. But I have gotten here without asking for help. I appreciate it, but am not asking for it. There are times when I just get teary eyed because someboidy promoted a vidoe, or made a nice comment..

Again, thanks for all the votes. I will try to do better at returning the favor, at some point. When I am better and less depressed and happier. I still love VS.
