Joyner Lucas - I'm Not Racist

cloudballoon says...

I second that, indeed they are.

I'm a Chinese immigrant (to Canada) and I got a different kind of racist treatment from, er, the "majority".

But the theory is that, the best way to beat a racist is to be better than him/her - both in character & wealth. No matter what kind of unfair (in my POV) treatment the majority/society-at-large throw at me, the best way forward is make myself useful, bear the hardship to make my 2nd generation better off then I, have them pass on the same ideal to the next generation. Down the road, parity can be achieved, and my kids & grand-kids will be even better off then those racists.

My dad always said he hadn't much schooling (been at school for a total of 3 years), but through sheer determination he was very successful.
Rather than spoiling us he made sure he got us into good schools and we return the favor with good grades and focus.

What I'm saying is, those racists don't bother me, I'd rather do some good with my time than arguing with those ne'er-do-wells. This I think is rather typical thinking for most Asians immigrants.

Don Lemon is not having it

newtboy says...

They, unlike him, are capable of having two thoughts at the same time. Typical Bob drivel....can't even get his insults right.

Now, Bob, would you care to defend his unapologetically spreading proven fake racist propaganda by retweeting faked anti Muslim videos from a pure racist anti Muslim organization on his official Twitter account (OUR official Twitter account), starting another Twitter war with another of our allies like he's a spoiled 13 year old girl and not "leader" of the free world? (Granted, he's pretty well lost that title, as he simply cannot lead or even be rational or civil).

Adam Ruins Everything - Expiration Dates Are BS

Mystic95Z says...

So much truth in this. My daughter in the past would squak about needing milk because what we had was 'expired'.... I refused to buy more since it was not spoiled and tasted like same day it was bought even a month past expiry.

Norm Macdonald trolls the The View (2000)

newtboy says...

"You're supposed to be funny!!"
"You know what, Norm, you're a dick."
Pretty much how I've felt about his whole career. I've never understood the appeal, and I've never found him to be funny or even of average intelligence.

It is surprising to see that his misogynistic, drug addled, idiotic real life views are even worse than the misogynistic, drug addled, idiotic characters he plays. I guess the writers decided no one would believe full strength Norm was believable, and didn't want to spoil the illusion of a talking super douchbag pigeon, so they toned him down.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Has A Blunt Message For Nazis

newtboy says...

I was under the impression that companies like that paid 'reparations' (restitutions) based on their actions under the Nazis. Is that wrong?
What I meant was they weren't allowed to keep the spoils of the war they lost...as far as I know....and were forced to paid for their complicity, along with the nation as a whole (right? I just assumed Germany paid reparations, but I admit my post war European history is spoty at best)....that doesn't mean eradication, or even stop further success, but it would mean that later successes cannot be attributed to profiting from war crimes. I hope that's right.

BASF is a huge german corporation that produced Zyklon B, the gas used in Ausschwitz to kill thousands of people. They're still going strong. It is by far not the only german corporation that benefitted greatly from the Holocaust. Take IBM for example, they delivered card-computing systems to manage concentration camp popula... Oh shit! IBM is american, my bad.
The Bundeswehr, the german military, was run by Nazi Generals in its early years. Just this year there were several scandals concerning Neo Nazis among their ranks.
A lot of people benefited from the atrocities of the third Reich. Don't kidd yourself. Remember, Hitler hired Ferdinand Porsche to develop the Volkswagen. The development of the VW Beetle was started by the Fuehrer.

Thank you my friend. Weather spoiled my wife's present of help-boarding, but I had a fun day going for a short hike, some wine, some beer and an epic meal!

Ready Player One trailer 2018

sillma says...

Failed to generate even a shred of interest. Usually I hate trailers because they spoil too much of the plot points, but I couldn't see if there's a plot at all, and the mediocre CGI didn't really sell it either.

The Dock

artician jokingly says...

I would like to express the deepest, most heartfelt "fuuuuuck yyoooouuuu" to all the jerks who get to experience this fucking luxury of human ingenuity, you lazy, nontraditional, spoiled pieces of shit.

Gods, I wish that existed when I lived near the water.

Cop Pepper Spraying Teenage Girl

newtboy says...

Yes, and she does "come here", then he lets her get on the bike without telling her not to. It didn't look like an escape attempt to me, but may have to them. That's not the point, the point is they didn't tell her to stay there when she turned around and went back "here". It's clear to me that her problem is being touched by strangers, and had they simply told her to sit, no one would have had to touch her, and things would not have escalated.

Detained is not under arrest, so you can't be charged with resisting detainment. Ignoring the police is totally fine until they give a lawful command....one that doesn't end with "OK?".

Again, you're assuming she was trying to flee and not just being an OCD (ADD?) teenager trying to avoid being touched. That's how she appears to me, spoiled, trouble, disrespectful, yes, but also scared, troubled, confused, and under assault.

I do think they should stop her from fleeing, (if that's what she was trying to do) I just think they should start with "sit down" or "stay right there" before manhandling a child that's just been in an accident, especially if the contention is they are "detaining" her because she might need medical treatment. "Come here" is a command satisfied when she returns "there", it does not command her to stay anywhere, no matter how logical it is to infer that.

As a citizen, you do have the right to arrest her (which they should have done if they thought she was fleeing the scene, not just "detained" her) but you had better be able to totally justify any force you use to hold her...as should the police. The force used must be reasonable, minimal, only what's required to prevent escape, and on par with the crime she's being detained for. They might have 1 out of 4 covered in part if they stretch it.

My issue is far more about the pepper spraying her for not moving her foot rather than the manhandling, but I do think both were wrong and more about disrespect and power trips than trying to calmly handle the accident. ONce she was handcuffed and in the car, she wasn't escaping anything, nor was she a threat to anyone. The pepper spray was totally out of line. The rest is just questionable to me and absolutely not how you make the community support you, but probably not illegal.

Come here is the very first thing the cop with the body can says to her. She responds with don't f'ing touch me, dodging back around him and trying to ride off on her bike. Officer then physically restrains and tells her she IS being detained. Pretty straight so far in support of the officer unless you think ignoring the police and resisting arrest is cool.

She had very good reason to be detained as from the only report so far, she was fleeing the scene of an accident. Whether she caused it or not, tracking down teenage girl on a bike isn't going to be easy without some manner of identification first. Maybe you and I disagree this fundamentally, but in the case of fleeing the scene of an accident, not only do I think police should physically prevent that, I believe private citizens should have the right as well.

THE DARK TOWER - Official Trailer

The Adpocalypse: What it Means

MilkmanDan says...

Sure, Javascript can do some great and beneficial things. But along with that comes a massive amount of grey-area stuff like tracking, loading content from "CDNs", etc. And then there's plenty of utterly indefensible crap like XSS attacks, intrusive advertising and malware, etc.

To me, the bad apples spoil the bunch. At least to the extent that I want to be careful to the point of paranoia about what I allow in -- I'm rigorously inspecting every goddamn apple. Admittedly, if you stay on legit and mainstream sites, the chances of stumbling on one of the bad apples are very low. But you're still subject to a hell of a lot more of the grey-area stuff that way.

To me, my scorched-earth approach is worth it both for preventing really nasty stuff AND the grey-area stuff that is getting more invasive all the time.

I disagree. That functionality is what makes the web useful.

As much as I despise Javascript as a programming tool, we just wouldn't have the web we know without it.

I do run ghostery though. On of my favourite extensions.

The Adpocalypse: What it Means

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

It's THE problem of content on the Internet and it hasn't been figured out yet. As you can rightly guess - VideoSift has a hand in this too - as advertising pays the server bills.

I don't know what the answer will be. Nobody likes ads really. The experience of watching TV commercial free, or Netflix spoils you for ever watching standard broadcast or cable TV.

I don't know what the answer is - I suspect it will be some kind of tightly integrated weaving of content and advertising, like product placement.

Thor: Ragnarok Teaser Trailer

moonsammy says...

That does look quite excellent. I may be unusual in having quite enjoyed the first two Thor movies, and have also like what Waitit's done to date. Don't think I'll watch any more clips of this so as to not spoil anything else...
