Speed Kills Your Pocketbook

Enzoblue says...

Totally agree, unfortunately not ticketing speeders kills the governments pocketbook and they make the rules. Not sure about Canadians, but for Americans and our for profit government that's end of story.
Backlash here in Northern California is nice though. Our state is so poor we lost a lot of patrol cars and I hardly see anyone pulled over anymore. Not like the 90's when they seemed to be around every corner. Almost like a free country now.

Woman pulls baby stroller while riding on scooter

Payback says...

How are you sure it's not an undercover cop pulling over a speeder.

Kids these days and their X-box gizmos, thinking need for speed gives them right to overdrive their prams.

Welcome to America (Cop vs German Tourist)

lantern53 says...

Who the hell said I would do something like that? You really take some assumptions, don't you?

I didn't say what the cop did was proper. I'm saying he did what he did because he didn't want to take the time to arrest this tourist. The cop probably has also seen his share of auto accidents involving stupid speeders.
Nevertheless, he should have just arrested the guy instead of being foul.

Welcome to America (Cop vs German Tourist)

A cop can do two things to a speeder. He can give him a ticket, or he can rip his ass.
Since the cop did not want to take this guy in and make him post bail or pay a fine, he ripped his ass.
Going 98mph is very very fast, so the cop did him a favor.
It is very frustrating to a cop to stop someone doing 98mph and not give him a ticket. Put yourself in his shoes.
I know because I did this work for 30 years.

Police Road Rage

song77 says...

Why doesn't he just pull him over if he so pissed off surely he could abuse his power more that way. Is this one of those cases where he has no jurisdiction on that road?.
Maybe this is the only way he can get the motorist to follow the speed limit the other car seems to be doing the same speed as the Police car, and its only when the guy in the big truck overtakes and accelerates past him that you see him pull over and brake. Stupid behavior i know but after you have pulled a few people from wrecks im sure trying to keep speeders of our roads would be one of your concerns too.

Why the Fiscal Cliff is a Scam

quantumushroom says...

There are no 'spending cuts' and never will be. Briefly the crooks tamp down the rate of spending, like a chronic speeder who takes his foot off the gas when he sees a cop, that's the most that will be done.

The important thing is that obama owns the coming disaster, and not get away with blaming Bush or anyone else. I'd hate for him to feel guilty as he leaves for his 20 million dollar vacay while 8% are unemployed.

Why Do YOU Buckle Your Seatbelt?

chilaxe says...

Measuring the effectiveness of a current ad campaign by comparing macro trends that have going on for decades isn't going to be accurate. Useful data would need to be obtained by measuring drivers' behavior after viewing the two ads.

Most psychologists would probably say driver behavior will be more influenced by high threat of financial loss (loss aversion) than a soft, artful depiction of an unlikely event that speeders assume can't happen to them.

If there's a lower rate of seatbelt use in the US, it's probably due to hard reasons like the higher average education level among drivers in Europe and Japan, where car use is more expensive.

Anybody conscientious enough to appreciate an artistic ad has probably only very rarely met the kind of person who doesn't wear their seatbelt.

If we look at the data, the American commercials likely produce more of the desired result.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. While I don't have hard data at hand, there is one big difference in American and European cars that is related to this: Airbags. The American airbag is designed to be able to stop an adult that is not wearing a seatbelt, because so many people don't use the darn things. European and Japanese cars on the other hand have much less powerful airbags, that are designed to cope with someone that is wearing their seatbelt. Cars that are imported to the States often get the "America spec" airbag added because of this. This would suggest that using seatbelts is vastly less common in the States.

Australian Anti-Speeding Ad - Very Disturbing

enoch says...

i think these kind of speeders are the ones @raverman was talking about in another post.
i would agree with him on that point.no reason to be speeding in an area like that at all.
this video is only disturbing in its graphic nature but sometimes you have to slap the smart in to people and visuals are the best tool for that.
nice post pumpkin.

Man Shoots Unmanned Police 'Speed Enforcement' Vehicle

BoneRemake says...

What is the big deal with speeding anyway ? do people not understand physics and the fact that going ten more miles an hour wont get you where you want to go much faster ?

If you go faster than the ten I said then I revert back to the physics part.

Youz speeders are fucktards.

Is this the music that all the speeders are listening to?

That's really weird. I don't remember that music being there at all when I first posted this. Perhaps the original uploader changed it?

One Way To Deal With A DUI Checkpoint (Refusal)

MrFisk says...

The Boulder City police department just wants to ensure that patrons visiting Hoover Dam are sober.

I went to high school in B.C. The cops used to put a mannequin in a patrol car en route from Vegas to deter speeders. Eventually, they realized a traffic light was more effective.

Scary Train Ride Through a Dense Forest

He also says that they derailed four times that day.

>> ^Stingray:

Ahh information... (from YT):
The South Carolina Railroad Museum has 11.5 miles of track that was once the Rockton & Rion Railway. The western 6.5 miles of track is known as the Museum's "West End" and is more than 40 years old and badly overgrown with weeds and small trees. A small crew is clearing and reopening this track. The video is taken through the windshield of a small self-propelled railroad motor car known as a speeder. The speeder was moving at idle speed and had already made three trips through the weeds that morning before the video was shot.
Some of the comments also go on to say that they were spraying weed killer.

Ridiculous speed enforcement signs

Unsung_Hero says...

I'm still with the protester here. The Attack helicopter might have gotten that one speeder but it cost the government more than $15 million....
By my simple calculations (leaving a few things out)

$250.00 (Speeding Ticket Income)
- [ $15,000,000(Helo) + $500,000(Tomahawk Missile)]
-------------------------------------------------------
(15,499,750) Government Loss

...they are going to have to catch a LOT more speeders.
