Master Mentalist Lior Suchard

newtboy says...

It’s usually done by having everyone on stage just pretend it’s not all preplanned when it is. That, and a little slight of hand (like swapping the airplane as he folds it) can look amazing…if you don’t think about it too much.
He did do it fairly well, for what this act is.

Wow. I am seriously impressed. How the fuck did he do that?

Some parts are guessable. The long scroll of Instagram actors and actresses may have only been like Jessica Biel (though the one right before Jessica Biel was... the Black Hole?).

But wow.

Rose McIver's Sick Magic Trick Pisses Off Jimmy Kimmel

I often think 'If you're going to do 'magic' on TV, there needs to be at least one camera on the magician's hands at all times with no cuts'.
If they can reach off camera and then suddenly 'magic', I'll assume they had it set up just out of sight, and everyone on camera is just in on it pretending to not see the wires/mirror/second deck of cards set up in the chair/etc. That's how nearly every 'magic' TV show works, and it's tiring. Slight of hand magic is nothing if you don't see the hands the whole time....IMO.

Magician Shin Lim Fools Penn and Teller

Building a helicopter is not the same as 'magic', where the important part IS all the little things you do to make it look magic.

Or do you just want an explanation like "he does it with slight of hand"?... because that is how he did it in a nut shell.

When I watch "how it's made" segment on helicopters, it doesn't mean I want to know every single detail so that I can build my own.

Not at all so.
The nuance IS how the 'trick' is done, so if you aren't interested in the nuance of each move, distraction, slight of hand, hidden chemical smoke generator, card/pen pocketing, flourish, etc., then you really don't want to know how he did it.

mxxcon said:

I'm not interested in being taught how to do it. It's a bit different than just showing how it was done.
When you teach a trick, you show and explain a lot more nuance in how each move is performed, something that is somewhat irrelevant when just explaining it.

*quality slight of hand there. I also caught a few of his moves, but was flummoxed at others. I absolutely LOVED his use of smoke. Now that's how you do it.

Magician suprises Ellen with up close Magic

Payback says...

Slight of hand and misdirection.

For example, the "pick a card" segment...

With a bit of practice, anyone can make a certain card stay on the top or bottom of the deck while shuffling. Practised talents like this gentleman can then pull that same card out and show it no matter where he seems to pull it from the deck. She actually made it easier for him by choosing the top card. It was always what he was going to show her.

Everything else is just pickpocket talent and shell games.

Magician POV card trick

poolcleaner says...

They all want to touch his illusionary wand after the filming. Or does the filming end, hm? He'll probably have to pull some slight of hands on their drinks before the cameras are rolling. Well, that's just slight of law but he should be able to get out of any California prison with some slight of hand into my wallet.

And that'sa bouda the time Chico does the money out of his a'wallet and then into his a'pocket physical comedy gag.

But why is he Italian?

Being slight of hand is not a problem, as it just makes your wand look larger.

lawrence odonnell-shocking mistake in ferguson grand jury

Just asking for the current Law on the books. no more no less. Odonnell seems quick to point out the misgivings ( ie slight of hand trick) from the DA but to be fair reporter of facts he should give the current actual law. It does matter. With out it she is just stoking the fire and you all are sucking it up.

Brown's blood was on Officer Wilson's gun (a Sig Sauer P229) and on the inside of his police vehicle.

He ran away then stopped turned around and came back to the cop and started charging and finally wend down 8 - 10 feet from the cop.

The cop was justified. I am glad the kid is dead.

Well, yeah, that's the simple solution to every magic show in which you aren't yourself one of the people selected for participation (which has got to be roughly 40-50% of them at least).

Just say: "Everyone is in on it." The audience, the people selected... Everyone.

Boom. Every magic act you've ever seen? Solved.

I, however, choose to work under the belief that he's not outright lying when he says he doesn't use any stooges and believe he has some other means by which to make the impossible seem possible, just like magicians have their special props and slight of hand, he has other means by which to manipulate the incredible into seeming credible.

@lucky760 re. "the fake contacting dead relatives thing". What's simpler? That they researched all the audience members social internet profiles or that Brown had plants in the audience? Oldest trick in the book.

Of course, there's someone in the crowd with a microphone. It'd be a pretty crap show if you couldn't hear the audience member.

The mystical surgery was the least interesting part of the show, IMO. some fake blood and some slight of hand, not really that impressive.

but you should have watched to the end... you missed the best part

speechless said:

Awful imo. No stooges or setups but amazingly there's a person with a microphone right behind whoever he wants to talk to. I didn't watch till the end in all fairness. Had to stop when the mystical surgery started.
