Patrick Stewart Looks Further Into His Dad's Shell Shock

newtboy says...

I feel there's confusion here.
The term "shell shock" covers two different things.
One is purely psychological, trauma over seeing things your brain can't handle. This is what most people think of when they hear the term.
Two is physical, and is CTE like football players get, caused by pressure waves from nearby explosions bouncing their brains inside their skulls. It sounds like this is what Stewart's father had, as it causes violent tendencies, confusion, and uncontrollable anger.

Colbert To Trump: 'Doing Nothing Is Cowardice'

ChaosEngine says...

Insurance, dude. Look it up.

And no, you shouldn’t be killed for punching someone. They’re entitled to defend themselves, but in a proportional response.

If you punch me, and I hit you back and you trip and crack your skull, well, that sucks for you, but I’m not in the wrong.

But if you punch me and I pull a gun and shoot you without warning, I’m guilty of man slaughter at the least.

I dunno about you, but it cost me lifetime to acquire the funds to buy my shit. I certainly wasn't going to work for the fun of it. I can't get that time back. But if you don't care about being robbed, then sure, help them carry.

I agree that life is worth more than stuff.
I also think that you reap what you sow.

For example, I don't think I should be killed for punching someone.
But if I did punch someone, I wouldn't be shocked if they turned around and killed me for it. It's certainly on the table of possible outcomes for my action, and I know that going into it.

Finally, Sean Spicer's Credibility Being Questioned Openly

00Scud00 says...

Nice sketch I hadn't seen that one before. But skulls really don't have the same meaning today that they had back then. Cover yourself in iron crosses and skulls these days and people will ask you what metal band you play for.

And then we have an organization known the world over for it's good works and what's their symbol? A dying man nailed to a cross, I swear it sounds like something out of Game of Thrones.

ChaosEngine said:

Sorry, I have zero sympathy for Spicer.

At some point, you have to ask yourself why you have skulls on your caps.

On that note, I think a rat's anus is an appropriate symbol for Trump.

I feel a bit sorry for the poor bastard in a way, I mean look what he has to work with. A President who's a pathological liar and is so disconnected from reality that if he started hallucinating it might be an improvement. A sane person would have simply resigned from his position.
I think it would be awesome if someday the Press all decided to stop showing up to these things, the ultimate vote of no confidence, every thing you say is so devoid of meaning that we no longer need to hear it.

How 'Rogue One's' Princess Leia, Grand Moff Tarkin Were Crea

iaui says...

Y'know, the first thing the new Tarkin brought to mind was LA Noire. To be honest, I think LA Noire did the whole face-scanning thing much better. Now, they had an easier job to do, where the whole game is already CG so perhaps the faces don't stand out as much, but it does feel like they did a better job.

I actually think they tried to control Tarkin's face a little bit too much. I think there will perhaps be a 'realization' in the industry that adding a host of very subtle random fluctuations to a face will make it seem more real.

I found the discussion about lips sticking together to be fascinating, and that's certainly headed in the right direction. There's probably something about gravity being applied to faces that make them seem realer, too. Like that they subtly jiggle and bounce as they move and that at a miniscule level the skeleton of the skull moves first to push the musculature and skin of the face around second. Those kinds of subtle movements are probably what could make this kind of thing realer.

Monitor Against Mexicans Over Nationwide.

That mariachi skull was super badass. Mexican & South American cultures are so fascinating. Most of us in the US hardly even know a tidbit about it. I moved down to the border into the mountainous sonoran desert in Arizona and have definitely heard that there's been an up-spike of deportation & border patrol goons since the election....

Robert DeNiro wants to punch Trump in the face

JustSaying says...

Dude, you used that word, 'sex tape'. I do not think it means what you think it means.
If Trump had a sex tape, I'd taken already a blowtorch and removed my eyes from my skull with it. Burn them with fire. Just to make sure I don't have to unsee something that isn't for my eyes.
Same goes for the word 'impeachment'
Or, now that I think of it, the word 'pro'. Did you mean 'bro' maybe?

I'm very confused by the person holding the camera. She has tiny baby feet that look like they belong to a child, but they're also tattooed (and with skulls and crossbones nonetheless) so they look like they belong to an adult.

Turn On, Tune In, Feel Good | Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

Lawdeedaw says...

On a funny aside, a Muslim tried to murder me in real life. Oh he hit hard as a bull, I can say that much. But fucker had no idea who I was. I was born with murder around me. I grew up waiting to die by a sociopath. Beaten, broken, the cycle never ending. Motherfucker didn't hit near hard enough even though everyone thought I might die.

And about ten "moderate" Muslims stood by while he tried to break my skull open. But after he broke his fists on my face I just stood up like a badass and dropped him on his face. I showed restrain to this would-be murderer, lol. I let him live and didn't even retaliate.

I actually applaud that psychopath, but the others that should have felt empathy that someone was being "killed" in front of their eyes, them I blame. And one had the audacity, the fucking audacity, to partially blame me for not calling the police...haha, silly Muslims, tricks are for kids. Guess my children don't need a father, eh? Guess my wife doesn't need a husband, eh. Because the moderates know what is in the Book.

You're right. I don't remember every conversation I have ever had.

Besides, people can change their mind.

So I go by what they say.

All the various Christian sects go back to the same book. Well, the Mormons have their extra bit, but they read the bible too.

There are plenty of Muslims who interpret their holy book in different ways.

I stand by my downvote as perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

PS Plenty of smiting and capital punishment in the Bible. No different than the Quran.
