Saving a Dog Covered in Tar

Fairbs says...

I thought maybe it was a language translation thing. 47 hours does seem awfully long. The whole process seemed a bit off. With that much tar, I would think that shaving the dog and then cleaning the tar residue off the bare skin would be a better way to go. The dog wouldn't look good for a long while after that, but it would get that nasty stuff off him (her) faster.

I have a friend who's volunteered time in an animal rescue organization in Thailand that takes in all sorts of animals including dogs, cats, elephants, monkeys, and rabbits, and probably more. She was part of the dog Team and from what I understand, they snip them to stop reproduction, nurse them back to health, don't release them, and don't have much success in finding foster families. The animals get their health back and have a place to stay and people who care about them, but I think it would be better if they could find permanent homes. I think part of the reason that they sometimes can't is that a lot of the dogs become too 'wild' and wouldn't do well out of a pack setting. Can't say that the group in this video follows any of the same routines, but I'm guessing they probably get neutered even if they can't provide ongoing care. That seems pretty common and a good practice with rescue organizations.

If so, what a weird way to put that. I would hope it was only 3 hours of hard scrubbing, not 47. Poor little guy!
It looks like it might need another hour of work still, I see a lot of matted fur. I also hope they didn't just release it back into the streets.

It's hard to be a girl in a country song

So you genuinely believe that make-up has nothing to do with sexuality? Make-up makes women look more attractive to men. That's why it exists. There is no distinction between "attractive" and "sexually attractive." They are one and the same. Society tells women that without make-up, they are unattractive. It's also a double-standard, as men are not expected to wear make-up (unless they're on TV).

And basic hygiene is not a valid analogy. Hygiene is a matter of practicality. If you didn't bathe or wear deodorant, you would stink and annoy those around you, increasing friction and reducing productivity in the workplace. Make-up, on the other hand, is purely cosmetic. It serves no purpose other than making yourself more sexually appealing. It's the same reason why women are expected to shave their legs and armpits and have slim but curvy bodies. It's the same reason why they wear high heels.

Idealized gender representations exist solely for the sake of increasing your sexual appeal. If you don't live up to these representations, society looks down upon you and makes you feel like shit. Women wear make-up because they are insecure about their appearance. They're insecure because society has created notions of beauty that are unattainable through natural means.

What you do is shave all the males bald and tattoo a giant letter 'C' for cunt on their foreheads after dropping leaflets warning those who want to keep their disguises, to get the hell out before sunrise. Relocate the women and children to de-assholification kibbutzim created specifically to derail yet another generation's mind-fucking.

20 Misconceptions About Sex (mental_floss)

newtboy says...

If that's what he meant, he should have said that, and not said it in such a way that made it sound like the study said 'every seven seconds, period' without 'on average'. He should have repeated for each case, 'most people think this study said "X" when it really said "Y"'.
To me, he set up a straw man then pushed it down (repeatedly). He either miss-stated or miss-interpreted most of the 'studies' he referenced (or at best jumped to the assumption that most other people miss-interpret them).
I must say, I found it odd that (according to his numbers) married women masturbate more than single women....what's up with that?!?
Also, in his part about women removing their hair, his results only add up to 56% of women total. (11% usually totally shaved, 20% never shave, 25% partially or sometimes shaved) What about the other 44% dude?

If what you say is true, he probably knows that this value is meant to represent the average. Nevertheless, some people actually believe that this really means every 7 seconds every day, which is the myth he tries to debunk in this video, not the study (if there is one) that people apparently misinterpreted.

Gendered Marketing

Xaielao says...

As the video shows, the basic gender defining trait for this marketing is pink for girls and blue for boys, even though 60 years ago it was the opposite. I agree that most of us grew up in this era and so those defining marketable traits are believed simply because we grew up with that definition.

Another example is the idea of not being clean unless you us soap, shampoo, shaving cream, deodorant, etc. Many people (myself included) have stopped using such items and found that, after an adjustment period, there's really no difference. My hair is healthier and fuller since stopping using shampoo and my skin isn't as dry without soap. I shower with just water and the only time I stink is after a work out. Most people believe you'd become Pig Pen if you didn't use these items but that is simply because they grew up in an era where they've used them as long as they can remember and cannot imagine ever not using them.

There's certainly a cultural element, but I feel that if there simply wasn't this marketing divide just a few short generations ago, that culture alone plays a small role.

But I don't wipe my butt with sharp metal blades!
A better point (if you knew) was that I shave the back of my head, and I don't look at it. It's a little less sensitive though (I would hope!).
