The Death Couloir - Mont Blanc

newtboy says...

Or not. Seems they’ll be covered in rocks naturally within days. Leave them. No SAR, you get to feed wildlife or become scenery. Just like Everest. A few bodies might make a good deterrent for anyone on the fence or over confident.

Reminds me of when I was in New Zealand. Our flight out of Milford was cancelled for low clouds, and some Japanese tourists took the plane sightseeing around Milford fjord. They crashed into the fjord, hundreds of meters deep. The family wanted to send robots to recover the bodies, but I couldn’t fathom (no pun intended) why. For a fraction of the cost the entire family could visit them in New Zealand every few years for eternity….no brainer!

I’ll never understand you humans.

No, I'm all in favor of Morons--

However, I'm not in favor of the amazing people in SAR putting their lives on the line to recover the smears lefts on rocks that used to be these people. Living in WA, we have a lot of "really wants to kill you" wilderness here, including North Cascades Nat'l Park and Olympic Nat'l Park. Every single year, someone's predated body needs to be pulled out of the middle of one of these places by either a helo crew or the poor bastards who have to hike a bazillion miles to pack out what's left of Chuckles.

The number of SAR people who've died here is sobering. Every single one of them could have just walked away, but they went into danger's way to save people too stupid to save themselves. Sometimes their reward is to be spit on, like the ranger at Yellowstone who was berated by the father of a kid who dived into a hot spring after his dog (by "kid", I mean adult kid, not Timmy). The father wanted his kid's body recovered, no matter what. The ranger had to explain that the kid completely dissolved about five minutes after he fell in. The father then refused to speak to the ranger any further.

This shit doesn't happen in a vacuum. Someone's going to have to look at these human bird droppings and see that shit in their sleep for the rest of their lives.

Beautiful scenery, questionable choice of music, someone (Nathan) obviously put a lot of work into this, and yet I cant help myself...

Best Ever Intro to a Movie? The Italian Job 1969

Get those damned words off the gorgeous scenery and car.
I remembered that car with a more voluptuous rear end, but those headlights....schwing! I'm gonna have to put this on my list to watch again.
*promote a *quality movie. Reminds me of Vanishing Point....the original, not the remake.

If Stranger Things was an 80s Anime

moonsammy says...

But... nothing in the 80s looked like that. Late 90s maybe. I suppose there were feature films that looked this good, but no tv shows of which I'm aware.

If it were 80s anime there would be a lot of static shots where only the mouths were moving. This full-body animation w/ moving scenery takes way too much work.

In 2014 I road tested new cars before they hit the showroom floor. Got to drive the new 2015 Corvette Stingray from Florida to Las Vegas. They did a 15 min emission test and then spent a day off in Vegas and then back to Florida.

I loved the scenery in this video and it took me back to my trip out west, all expenses paid in new Corvette.

I did lose $25 gambling. I paid a hooker $25 and then she ran off with my money. I knew it was gamble to start with. Hookers don't usually push shopping carts.

Hulinsheimar Mýrdalsjökuls - Iceland

newtboy says...

I'm torn by videos like this.
On the one hand, they're gorgeous and expose many to the graduate of wild nature.
On the other hand, they totally ruin that experience for anyone who went through the expense and trouble to actually be in that natural wilderness.

Imagine you've spent thousands to travel to Iceland, and after days of travel you finally get to the pristine wild you were hoping to find....then HRRRRUUUMMMM....the next few hours are spent listening to the loud noise and scenery ruining of a large drone flitting about, almost following you through the wilderness, ruining the whole experience.

Exactly that happened to my wife and I in Iceland. The assholes went so far as to pass the "do not pass" signs and not only flew around, but set up and stood directly in front of the amazing waterfall we had hiked to see, for hours, even when asked to move.

I think there need to be severe restrictions on drone flying in natural parks and wilderness areas...like 4 days a year when it's allowed and no other times or something. Your beautiful video shouldn't trump the enjoyment of the others who took the trouble to get there, far from civilization.

French Crosswalk PSA

cloudballoon says...

Very well executed, and should be effective (even short term).

Really don't understand why any pedestrian would think it's more important to look at the phone the few seconds it takes to cross an intersection. Priorities, people!

Besides, people/cars/scenery are interesting to look at too, spend some time to look at the environment all around you!

(Mea culpa: While I do look at my cellphone while I walk, I do look up most of the time, and I stop if I need to type. And never look at the phone near intersections, it's just principle.)
