Victim Gets Revenge On Bully By Dating His Mom

noims says...

I 100% agree, but at some point it moves from acceptable to immoral, and that point varies. That's why I gave examples that I think many/most people would not consider rape (pretending you're rich), and what I suspect is its counterpart (pretending you're their partner).

Note that I'm not arguing whether or not this was rape, I'm just making the point that there's a valid argument to be made. I know that's cravenly copping out, but I'm not confident enough to make either case 100%.

I'm a follower of the George Carlin philosophy that says you can only take offense, you can't give it. i.e. offence is in the eye of the beholder, and so any judgement needs to take into account things like intention, and should err on the side of free speech. Any psychological attack - from being cut off when driving to being told you have cancer - will damage you only to the level that you let it (which is largely out of your own control), but that doesn't stop the source of the attack from being in the wrong.

This is why I looked at this case in cost-benefit terms. We can't know for sure how this affected those involved, but it's reasonable to suspect that the woman was psychologically scarred through little or no fault of her own, and sexual violation is one of the most cruel and personal. This is amplified by the public nature of it. Yes, maybe - hopefully - she chalked it down to a bad decision, but I think it would be completely understandable if she was significantly damaged by what was unarguably a malicious action against her (even if the malice wasn't directed towards her).

if presenting yourself inaccurately is rape, everyone is (arguably) a rapist. it's a shitty definition.

Can Trump read?

newtboy says...

This hypothesis seems more and more correct daily. It should be front and center in any argument against him, because it's a requirement for leadership and scars his hyper inflated ego. If he can't or won't read, we are at the mercy of Bannon and his other advisors, all of whom have been proven to be bold faced liars, and completely at the mercy of other leaders who can get him to sign anything by just lying about what he's signing.

I need to see him take a long form reading and comprehension test on unedited non-stop video, and pass it at a minimum high school level. Until then, I'll continue to think he's an illiterate, incompetent, treasonous, illegitimate president who is involved in a bloodless coup under the directions of Russia.

Why you don't fire people and force them to finish the day.

You lasted longer than me. I worked in a call centre for 6 weeks and it is scarred on my memory as my worst job ever (and that includes working in an industrial laundry where I had to sort blood and shit stained slaughterhouse overalls).

I only did that shit for 6 months but holy shit man, that gave me PTSD permanently.

LOGAN Official International Red Band Trailer #1

dannym3141 says...

Appropriate music choice given what it looks like.

If anyone was wondering like me why he has scars, it was apparently explained that because they wanted to make a different tone of movie, they had to imagine what it would be like if his healing ability changes as Wolverine himself ages, leaving him with scars/memories of past battles. I don't know how old he's supposed to be, but they did show him in Prof X's younger days (~60 years?) looking exactly the same as he did in the 2000's - so i'm not sure if it adds up, but i can excuse that for a different styled, good film.

Penn Jillette on Atheism and Islamaphobia

transmorpher says...

I used to think the same thing, because that seems logical, because you're a logical person, but for a fundamentalist's mind, it's not the case at all.

ISIS themselves have stated in their magazine "Dabiq" that the war and bombing is the smallest concern for their motivation. Sam Harris reads this magazine, and about 29 minutes in to this podcast, the magazine goes out of it's way to mention that US/Allied invasion is not the motivator.

The truth is much scarier than my rational imagination could have ever come up with.

Most extremists also aren't people who have been affected by war and just want revenge or have mental war scars. The people flying the planes in 9/11 for example were western university educated, engineers, doctors. And other extremists often have grown up in western countries.

These people are fanatics

Good Role Model Teaching Kids to Work Through Emotional Pain

bareboards2 says...

Here is the exchange that broke it open for me. So fricking good. Even thought it was a "joke."

@aslo
Yeah, that's the scar tissue talking, let it go big guy, it's okay to cry... ; )

So much cringe. I can't handle it. Not so much the people, but the editing. And definitely the cheery acoustic kickstarter music at the end. It hurts.

bareboards2 says...

I heard the kid say that he didn't trust his left hand and he was pulling his punches -- not doing as he was trained in the fear of the moment.

I thought the leader did a terrific job with the kid.

I loved his acceptance of the tears. Paraphrasing what @aslo said elsewhere, jokingly, it is the scars that cry. (I paraphrased badly, by the way.)

We have to redefine what it means to be a "man." So much toxic masculinity out there.

Not a fan of hitting on the father, though. That was weird.

Now we need to talk to our girls like this. Be a woman. This is what it means to be a woman.

Good stuff. I loved this.

This is awesome, and is probably exactly what serious safety videos should all be like..?

I was a bit disappointed in the fake scars and post-accident cosmetics for not being realistic enough, though.

Science to the rescue; this is how you rehab a broken back

SFOGuy says...

Look at the atrophy of her leg muscles (flat on her back for a month in a cast) and the nasty purple scar along her back at the :44 second mark---about lumbar spine. Looks like she got a set of steel rods on either side of her crushed vertebrae.

You're right; she didn't sever her spinal cord; but she's still lost muscle and has to bring the strength and power back to her back, and develop the ability to start standing again---and the water, I think, floats her to take most of the weight off as she starts to move...

But I could be wrong.

worthwords said:

it's probably worth noting that 'broken back' isn't a medical diagnosis. There are a whole range of injuries that could potentially fall into that category with damage to the spinal coord being the most serious. A fractured vertebra/pedicle or a popped disc can have complications including sciatica and variable paralysis of a nerve root which may fully resolve with time and or surgery.

In this case, you can see in the preview she is sitting on the side of the pool with her spine taking the whole weight of her torso/head - so i'm not sure what the 'reduces forces on her bones' means.
While this type of exercise offers fantastic rehabilitation I wouldn't want people to think that you could dump Christopher reeves in there and cure his ailments!

Sloppy Seconds - Watsky

eric3579 says...

Fuck you if you love a car for its paint job
Love you if you love a car for the road trips
Show me the miles and your arms and the pink scar
Where the doctor had to pull out all the bone chips
Cuz you were pressing on the gas just a bit hard
Right in the moment where the road curved a bit sharp
And when you woke up, somebody was unclipping your seat belt
and pulling you from the open window of your flipped car

Cold pizza
Tie-dye shirts
Broken hearts
Give'm here, give'm here
Hand me downs
Give me give me leftovers
Give me give me sloppy seconds
Give em here, give em here

I don't care where you've been
How many miles, I still love you [x2]

Show me someone who says they got no baggage
I'll show you somebody whose got no story
Nothing gory means no glory, but baby please don't bore me
We won't know until we get there
The who, or the what, or the when where
My favorite sweater was a present that I got a couple presidents ago
And I promised that I would rock it till it's thread bare
Bet on it
Every single person got a couple skeletons
So pretty soon, in this room
It'll just be me and you when we clear out all the elephants
Me and you and the elements

We all have our pitfalls
Beer's flat, the cabs have been called
And everybody and their momma can hear the drama
that's happening behind these thin walls

Cold pizza
Tie-dye shirts (tie-dye shirts)
Broken hearts
Give'm here, give'm here
Hand me downs (hand me downs)
Leftovers (leftovers)
Sloppy seconds
Give'm here, give'm here

I don't care where you've been
How many miles, I still love you (2x)

I don't care (cold pizza)
Where you've been (tie-dye shirts)
How many (broken hearts) miles, I still love you
I don't care (hand me downs)
Where you've been (left overs)
How many (sloppy seconds) miles, I still love you

My pattern with women isn't a flattering image
But I don't want to run away because I said so
I don't want to be the guy to hide all of my flaws
And I'll be giving you the side of me that I don't let show
Everything in fashion
That has ever happened
Always coming crashing down
Better let go
But in a couple years it will be retro
You rock Marc Ecko
My shirts have the gecko
Cuz in the past man, I was hopeless
But now's when my little cousins look the dopest
(whoop whoop)
Fuck the fashion po-po
Have a stale doughnut, I don't need no tips
Fuck a five second rule
That's a plan I never understood
It's September in my kitchen in a Christmas sweater
Sipping cold coffee on the phone with damaged goods

And there is not a single place that I would rather be
I'm fucked up just like you are, and you're fucked up just like me

Cold pizza (cold pizza)
Tie-dye shirts (tie-dye shirts)
Broken hearts
Give'm here, Give'm here
Hand me downs (oh hand me downs)
Give me give me leftovers (leftovers)
Give me give me sloppy seconds
Give'm here give'm here

I don't care where you've been
How many miles, I still love you [x2]
