Stripping the paint off a car with a 1000 watt laser

newtboy says...

That's pretty awesome, but I couldn't help but think that he's vaporizing paint that's known to be cancer causing, and not wearing a respirator. I wonder how dangerous that really is.
Also, does it eat rust in the same way media blasting will? If so...want want want want want....WANT!!!!

Cruise ship being beached at full speed

Well, yes. Now that I understand (everything but the Florida locations), it does sound like we agree across the board.
Oh! I get it now...you meant West coast OF FLORIDA. (To be honest, I was confusing Ft Lauderdale with Tampa...Tampa is the city my relatives live 'near'....and it IS more 'conservative', is it not? You can probably guess I don't spend much time over/down there).
Yes, I DO know what it's like to walk far in August/Florida. I grew up in Houston, just as humid, even hotter! I used to love to ride my bike in the 105 deg summers and get crazed looks from everyone peering out of their air conditioned cars and shops. I can't take that heat anymore now that I'm old and broken, and spoiled by N California.
And I've also had to park far from events...I now drive a rotten 44 year old Bronco. It's mechanically near perfect, but the body is a rusted hulk...and I don't care a bit! It actually helps me in traffic, no one tailgates me, and they move when I come from behind. ;-)
Oooohhhh. Pill heads can suck ass. Sorry to hear it.

ha ha..thanks man.
i lived closer to the coast.
off oakland and andrews.worked at yesterdays on the intracoastal and marks in los olas,i also dj'd (and bounced) at the crazy horse off A1A.met motley crue there a couple of times.

the concentrated wealth was a tad further north from where i lived, boca and west palm.

you may have been a bit west in places like davie...fairly rural and yes..conservative..but money talks and davie does not have that kind of clout.
i saw the same practices when i lived on miami beach.though the criminalizing is a new thing, before they just shuttled the homeless and undesirables away.

icky homeless people are bad for tourism

i think we pretty much agree across the board.when a hard line conservative talks about "pulling yourself up by your boot straps" we know that is bullshit speak for 'fuck you poor person,i got mine" but i have a problem with a supposed "liberal" who talks the language of compassion and humanity but dont actually practice it in a hands on way.

the hardliner shows disdain for the poor, and while repugnant,at least it is honest.
but when a liberal, who wrings their hands over the plight of the homeless, yet pushes through ordinances that criminalize the very thing they are saying that is heart-wrenching for them..i find hypocritical.

i remember i was an event co-ordinator for the hilton fountain blue and did a bee-gees (yes..you read that right) birthday party on their west palm home.i dorve a beat up toyota tercel( i have always lived simply, like a hippy) and i was asked to park it 4 blocks away at a u-store it facility.

no valet for me!

do you know what its like to walk 4 blocks in august?in florida? in 300% humidity?
i was a wet rag by the time i got to their mansion.
i literally had to sneak a shower while my clothes were drying!

but..i did get 10% of everything,and that party cost a cool 250.000.

soooooooooo

WORTH IT!

i live just north of tampa now.new port richey.the number ONE place for painkiller/xanax deaths in the country!

we are so proud.

Christchurch From The Streets - trailer

newtboy says...

How did the wizard fair? Was he still out there doing his thing when the quake hit? I had a great time with him in the late 80's. He was a fixture of the town at that time, I hope he's still there trying to sell his 'inside out universe' and 'upside down globe' theories, along with all the other insanity he spouted so gleefully.
It's so sad to see the damage still so bad 4 years later. Hints of New Orleans in that. It was such a beautiful place (and still is, but obviously in recovery).
One good thing though, this gives Christchurch the opportunity to become the most technologically advanced city in NZ, or even the entire southern hemisphere. Since the infrastructure needs to be rebuilt anyway, youall can do it right instead of just plastering over rust and broken concrete (like we do here in the US). Fingers crossed that it gets done the right way, and not just bandaged over with last century tech.
I SOOOO want to come back there and visit again. Most beautiful country and people (on the inside anyway) anywhere on earth. I miss it badly.

Double-Barreled Shotguns in FPS Games

EvilDeathBee says...

The best double barreled shotgun of any FPS was the "Sawed Off" in Blood. A lot of double barreled shotguns in games, especially nowadays fuck around with a overly long reload animation (seriously, do you need to grab the barrels from the top and pull it open? Is it rusted shut??).
Not in Blood, reloads as fast as the Doom shotgun takes to pump and you can fire one or both barrels, and firing both would usually propel zombies and zealots across the room in a spray of blood.

Good times.

Junkyard Turbo Chevy Datsun 240Z Autocross Thrash - Roadkill

enoch says...

i did some mural work years ago and they paid me some cash and a modified 77 280Z.

and when i say modified,i mean MODIFIED.
brand new straight 6 with a cam,1800 stall converter and porsche transmission and linkage.

it looked very similar to the 240 in this video.
was a total rust bucket.
the suspension was toast and the u-joints were all bad.
no muffler....just a straight pipe ..yeah..that baby was LOUD.
chug chug CHUG chug chug....
didnt even have a key for the ignition, started it with a screwdriver.

but holy hell could it move on a straight away.
mustang GT's were my favorite to embarrass.
i would stay with em till they hit 4th gear (round 50 mph) and i would hit second, chirp the tires and wave...buh bye....

man,now that i think about it...
how am i still alive?
damn car was a death trap.

Payback says...

"What do you get when you cross a rusted 1971 Datsun 240Z with a Chevy 4.3L V6 and a turbo from a Ford Power Stroke Diesel?"

You can safely remove "rusted" from this question. It's assumed.

Kevin O'Leary on global inequality: "It's fantastic!"

Matthew 6:19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Superhydrophobic Liquid Repellant Demonstration

Trancecoach says...

Saw this on Junkee:

"“I am so sick of my T-shirt getting wet whenever I pour a lot of liquid on it!”

“I wish my iPhone 4 or 5 would not get so damaged every time I carefully place it at the bottom of a jug filled with water!”

“My new white shoes have been stained by the chocolate sauce and mustard I squeezed on them earlier! What gives?!”

“This cardboard box I chose to hold all of the water is just not doing a great job of it!

These are all things you’re used to saying, but you will be saying them no longer! After a two year wait, Rust-Oleum’s NeverWet – an invention of Ross Nanotechnology (great business name, Ross) – has just hit shelves in the States.

It is “a family of super hydrophobic coating that completely repels water and heavy oils,” and you can buy it online here for $20 a can."

&
"Couple questions left unanswered:

A) What does it taste like?

B) What does it feel like?

C) How much cancer will it give me, and how quickly?

D) What happens if you get it on your hands and then you want to wash it off your hands? Will you be NeverWet forever?

5) If you spray the inside walls of a glass tumbler with NeverWet but not the inside base of that tumbler, and then you fill up the tumbler with water or with another liquid of your choice, like mustard, will it form a mustard tower inside the tumbler? Can you take a photo of the mustard tower and send it to us very soon?"
