How Women Are Written In Sci-Fi Movies

Assassin's Creed Trailer

newtboy says...

I find it interesting that you allude to Resident Evil, but put it in the same category as Street Fighter. I find the RE movies WAY better than the games, and they've certainly made money. Milla didn't have much of a fanbase when that series started...at least not as an actress.
Now movie games, games made from popular movie stories as tie in merchandise, nearly ALL suck....but I'm sure there's an exception to that rule as well.

Mordhaus said:

Let's be realistic, there isn't a single video game movie that worked. Some made profits simply because of their name or because they booked a star with a built in fanbase (Angelina Jolie, Jake Gyllenhaal, Milla Jovovich), but the movies themselves sucked. Even Mortal Kombat was only good because it was soooo bad. I hesitate to even mention Street Fighter, Doom or Hitman 47. Street Fighter basically killed Van Damme's career, well that and a ton of coke.

Sadly, studios will keep making them because they can eke out a profit off the fanbase at least once or they will waste enough money that they can write it off their yearly profits.

New Bethesda Game: The Evil Within

EvilDeathBee says...

Bethesda are just publishing it. A more accurate title would be "New Shinji Mikami game: The Evil Within".

For those who don't know, Shinji Mikami created Resident Evil franchise, reinvigorated it with Resident Evil 4 (arguably one of the best games ever made) and also created the awesome and underrated game: Vanquish

Personal Queue Videos question (Sift Talk Post)

Kreegath says...

In 2008 there was some debate about the practice of requeueing by killing and resubmitting videos that failed to reach the 10 vote limit until they did.

I'm also fairly certain it's been raised in sift talk before, and in profile conversations. Personally, I find it directly in contrast to the entire point of the unsifted tab to kill and resubmit something when there is a system set in place for promotes. It's not quality control if you keep resubmitting something that has been tried and failed, like in the case of this video that requeued six times before there was a discussion about it, now gone though since it was before the siftpocalypse: http://videosift.com/video/Resident-Evil-4-WTF-is-going-on

Here's a sift talk discussion on the *requeue command, which in practice is exactly like killing and resubmitting: http://videosift.com/talk/Introducing-Beggars-Corner

Resident Evil: Retribution

spawnflagger says...

I thought this was a very clever trailer seeing it in a theater. It starts as a Sony commercial then you really do a double take and are pleasantly surprised.

I thought Resident Evil: Afterlife had some of the best 3D effects and scenes of any 3D movie released in 2010. I will definitely see Retribution.

Resident Evil 5 Outtakes

Playstation Network Hacked - User info stolen (Videogames Talk Post)

Yeah, this sucks HARD. I bought one game over PSN as a one off type thing (I had to have Resident Evil 2 on my PSP, rarrgghh) years ago, and now I gotta worry about this? Is it true they used no encryption whatsoever for storing user info? Fucking TEXT files Sony, really?
The fact that they waited 5 whole days to tell anyone really makes me doubt whether they're being totally honest with what they have told us. I truly feel for you PS3 owners, hope everything turns out OK.

No...everything is NOT ok...somebody used my bank info to pull out money and spend it on booze and cocaine.

I cannot even believe this

Dead Island Trailer - VERY well done

Deano says...

>> ^LordOderus:

The trailer is very well done and very emotional and interesting, which is what you want when advertising a movie. However when you advertise a game, it is usually nice to show a little bit of gameplay footage so I have some idea what the game is like.
Is this a FPS? RPG? Strategy game? 3rd person action/adventure? Point and click adventure? Survival horror in the vein of Resident evil and Silent hill? Give me SOMETHING.
The trailer is certainly well done, but until I see something about the game, I'm not getting all excited.

It's the first trailer for the game. Many games do this, the first you hear of them is some utterly oblique and vague sequence. Latter trailers will eventually reveal gameplay. It's simply standard practice and in this case the marketing has worked perfectly.

The most recent example I can give you is that of Halo: Reach. The first teaser for that was simply a shot of the planet with radio chatter as the soundtrack and no gameplay.
