Good Thing Volvo Trucks Have Excellent Brakes

Esoog says...

Its hard to tell from the video...I was 'hoping' that she got rear-ended and it pushed her into the intersection. At least that could have been an excuse. But I dont know if that was the case or not.

Ultimate Close Call Compilation 2014

pierrekrahn says...

One of my biggest pet peeves are people that run into traffic, cause (or almost cause) accidents and simply walk away without giving a care.

That applies at cross walks too. Depending where you are, cross walks often means pedestrians have right of way, but that doesn't mean you can carelessly run across without looking.

I witnessed on my bike once someone park (legally) in a parking lot that was separated by the road by a 5-foot wide side walk. He hurriedly got out of his car, locked the door and SPRINTED to cross the street (not at a cross walk) without looking. The car on the other side of the road had to slam hard on their brakes to successfully avoid hitting this asshole. That motorist got rear-ended. The pedestrian kept sprinting away despite the obvious accident he just caused. I don't buy the excuse that he didn't know because the tire screeching was deafeningly loud!

Audi Traffic Light Assistance

newtboy says...

Guaranteed, if I see someone in their $100K car going 5mph down main street in order to 'hit all the lights' I'll swerve around them and tell them off while I do it (and maybe slow down enough to make them miss the light anyway, if I'm not in a hurry). If they then want to hit my 43 year old bronco in anger, we'll see who fairs better.
The road isn't just for YOU, I wish people would learn how to drive WITH others. There are rules of the road to make roads work. Ignoring those rules for your own benefit makes YOU a problem. This tech did NOT seem to take other drivers into account. Blocking traffic because YOU aren't planning on turning at the light is not the way to make traffic flow better, or the way to keep your $100K car from being keyed or rear ended.

Heat Sensitive Nissan Skyline R33

As a person that has driven cross country in the US, I have experienced insane hot rains that nearly (and sometimes completely) blot out visibility. Does this not seem like a bad idea to make your car become "invisible" (dark color change might not register with human vision if the color change occurs at the moment that visibility is impaired) with different temperatures of water? I imagine seeing this red car disappear and then THUD CRASH BANG: rear end collision.

Black Range Rover Runs Over Bikers in NYC

newtboy says...

According to police reports, a biker cut in front and hit the brakes to be rear ended in the first place, the car stops, and the gang instantly starts to attack the family inside. They flee for their lives and are repeatedly attacked by the gang, ending in the drivers hospitalization...while none of the bikers was seriously injured. Gang got off easy, so far.
I would hope for prosecution...of the bikers. If there is none, it seems to be a good example to use in court as an excuse for why you had to run over every bike in the gang...the cops would have shown they won't do anything to protect you, even after the fact.

How to Get a Driver to Stop Talking on a Cell Phone

shatterdrose says...

I had a guy rear end me one time. We were both at a red light and he decided suddenly he was just going to go. Slammed into the back of me, got out of the car, and shrugged off the officer because he wanted to finish his phone call.

But then again, the headline could me "Man shoots motorist who caused accident while texting" Or hell, let's have the "gun for everyone" solution and it would be "Gun battle ensues over driver causes accident while on phone."

Lawdeedaw said:

I agree that it happened this way most likely...since road rage is all the rage right now. If the cell-phone guy had a gun this would be How to stop a lunatic from ripping open your car door and reaching for you. Bang.

Russian Gas Truck Explodes In An Accident

Mieders Alpine Coaster - Frustrated Guy Crashes

newtboy says...

OK, I watched at full res/screen a few more times...they all slow down and stop again shortly after the 'crash' and she's all floppy, then her friends release their brakes but she holds hers a few seconds to give some space between her and the one in front, then she releases her brake, partly. All that time she's flopped over like she's out, but she must have some control or she would still be on the bumper of the guy ahead.
I don't mean to say I think it didn't hurt, just that I didn't think she was completely knocked out when it looked like she was. So I'll retract "faking it" and replace with "exaggerating it".
Also, I don't think she did it on purpose, but she rear ended the guys (apparently her friends) in front of her who had stopped, again.
Admittedly, right after the crash she is on his bumper, but he does not seem concerned in the least and leaves her flopped over, like he knows something. She may have really been out for a few seconds, but I think not as long as she made out. If she is really hurt, isn't her 'friend' still the real douchebag? First for stopping short in front of her without any warning, causing the crash at least in part, and second for not helping his friend when she rear ended him 'unconscious', but instead just riding on?
The guy in back was 'tailgating' a bit, but did not seem to hit her intentionally and had no chance to brake, and may have not had enough time the first time he hit her either. Those brakes are just friction brakes, they don't stop on a dime, especially if you're a full grown man. (agreed, that's a good reason to not tailgate at full speed, so they're all douchebags?)

artician said:

I thought she was right on the tail of the guy ahead of her. It seemed like she was basically connected to his ride for the duration of it.

I accept I could be wrong. I'm not so suspect of people as that, and definitely didn't have that conclusion. If I were to extrapolate on that line of thinking I would still disagree because I'd expect anyone who would have the gall to do that in the first place wouldn't then get off the ride and walk meekly away knowing that the guy who rammed her that hard (and it was hard, regardless of the effect) was going to be stopping just behind her.

All types of people in this world, so could go either way, but I personally think the assumption she's faking it is absurd. The number of people who are that shitty is pretty low, at least statistically and empirically, and I doubt someone like that would enjoy a nice roller-coaster down a hillside in the first place.

Kinder Gentler Russian Dash Cam Videos

sanderbos says...

Great concept.
Still, it would have been better if at least one of those cars got rear-ended as the driver was outside helping somebody out, to point out the important safety tip that you shouldn't stop your car in the middle of traffic when you get out to help somebody...

Almost Died: Whoa...that was close...WHOA!

bobknight33 says...

Fuck that. The funeral is going the other way. Keep the other lane moving.

I just had this issue 2 wks ago. The funeral was in the other lane and the guy in front of me pulled 1/2 off the road and stopped. I just went around him and kept going.

Respect just got a guy rear ended. What if there was a injury? Is that worth respect?

Nexxus said:

She said it's a funeral procession. Across many states, especially in rural areas, it is the convention for drivers, out of respect for the deceased, to pull-over and stop while a funeral passes by. It's not the law however.

Can't be good for the poor tranny or rear-end, esp. if this guy hauls and drops all day like this-Still, takes less human horsepower to replace a tranny and rear-end!

We do the same thing here in NorAm, it's called a roll-off bed. Only here, one tends to get fined for overloading their truck by 8 or 10 times the GVWR...
