I think you gave the easy answer...call her parents. I bet you anything that if mama got on the phone and told her to leave class, she would do it right away. That makes way more sense than calling officer slam (his nickname at the school) to re-escalate a situation that had already calmed down.

Actually, she was not being arrested. She was only being removed, at first. At least that's what's been reported. That means that, at least at first, she was not 'resisting arrest', only 'resisting removal'.

I do agree, force is a FINAL resort, rightfully in the hands of police. My issue is it's often used as a PRIMARY resort (meaning it's often the first thing tried). There were MANY options available to the cop besides violence against a child, he didn't try anything once his command was ignored except unnecessary violence. For instance, he could have, with less force and no injury to anyone, dragged the girl and her desk out of the room and waited her out in the hallway, but instead he chose to react with severe violence to being 'disrespected' by a child.

Saying she 'brought it on herself', to me, is the same as saying abused women 'bring it on themselves' by not capitulating fast enough to their abusive spouses, and abused children 'bring it on themselves' by not being perfect at all times.
Even if you want to call what she did 'resisting arrest' (which I think I've already debunked, but may still be questioned), the force used was SO out of proportion and unnecessary that this officer has already been banned from all schools in the state, and will likely lose his job and money in the end. If her fellow students had not risked the same treatment by pulling out their phones and recording his actions, we would never have heard about this, and the poor girl would have a record for assaulting a police officer instead of an FBI investigation against the officer. That sounds like one more instance where always on-body cams might have defused the situation, because KNOWING he was on camera, I bet he would not have acted so rashly against a calm, non violent child.

ED is certainly one of the best games of the year. I got a HOTAS for it myself. Would love to have a Rift or even head tracking to support it.

Got to disagree with @shagen454 a bit on Shadow of Mordor which I liked a great deal. Wildstar was okay, but it and ESO both need to be F2P or B2P (ala GW2). AA, I dumped $150 on, and that is disappointing, though it was great at the time, I just burned myself out on it. Not as disappointing as Evil Within, my biggest regret of the video games I got this year. I agree Alien Isolation, was great, and I haven't spent enough time with Divinity to really evaluate it much. Hearthstone I can't even make it past the AI missions... lord I suck at video games.... probably shouldn't have got Lords of the Fallen given that I'm so bad at games as that game is brutal.

For others we have Gauntlet as a fun diversion, Hand of Fate, Nosgoth (been in since early beta), Road Redemption is a decent homage to Road Rash, South Park: Stick of Truth, Starbound, Zombies Monsters Robots is a fairly good F2P shooter... I can't remember if Kerbal Space Program came out this year or last... The Endless series (Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Legend)... The Evolve alphas (well, one alpha down so far, which was great and one coming this weekend, and more a next year game anyhow)... Titanfall was a great deal of fun.

At or at least near the top though is ED (I personally didn't stream it or make as many videos about it as I did others, it's still a great game). I'm glad I went with ED over Star Citizen, at least as they stand now. I seriously looked into head tracking, but it's just too pricey for me at the moment. I got a Thurstmaster X Flight HOTAS though off Craigslist for a decent price and that helped the game. I haven't updated it to Beta 3 yet, I'm sure I'll need to rebind stuff on the HOTAS and in Voice Attack... and this weekend is the Evolve alpha, so I'll probably be busy with that, especially as there is no NDA this time.

Not an assumption, you said it clearly. YOU said he could have gone from one neighborhood to another in 15+min, so it's reasonable to 'detain' him. That MUST mean it's reasonable to detain ANY black man within a 15 minute radius (by car, no one told them he didn't have a car). If you get a call to look for a male black, about a 'crime' that may have happened some time ago, it's rather pointless period. There's no way in hell you could find the right person with that description unless there's still one male black AT THE SCENE of the crime you are investigating, and even then that person could easily be a witness. "male black" is not enough description to make it OK for cops to accost citizens. PERIOD. Just as "male white" would not be.

It's getting to the point where there's MORE than one of these videos per day. It's even worse when you consider most of them seem to involve 'people of color', apparently targeted for their skin color. Have the police suddenly become a wing of the KKK? If not, what the hell is going on? It can't ALL be because there's more cameras today (one excuse I've heard), that's been the case for a while now and is not a sudden change, but this rash of violent cop videos is.

Now if they were going to issue their own currency... Then I think you'd see a rash of unexpected apparent suicides and convenient fatal accidents to key persons until the idea was scrapped.

@lucky760, in 2009 in Palo Alto, CA (where I was living at the time), there was a cluster of four (4) teen suicides-by-train within five (5) months of each other.
I wouldn't be surprised if this ad was at least partially in response to that.

@RedSky I would add that the Jewish laws of Leviticus, Deuteronomy etc. are the foundations for Sharia law, but that most Christians throughout history see Jesus as having repudiated Jewish law (this is of course a question of interpretation), causing it to have "lived on" almost exclusively in its Islamic form. I still hold that as far as fundamentals go, the Quran and life of Mohammed are somewhat more easily used as unequivocal justification for violence than the New Testament and Jesus. I'm glad you brought Indonesia into the picture, as it is a good example of my argument. It may be the most populated muslim country, but it has repeatedly refused to let its central gvt be encroached upon by Islam, i.e. to become an Islamic state or espouse Sharia (despite the pressure from noisy fundamentalists).
In the one part of the country where Sharia is allowed to be enforced, Aceh, you get the same amount of unethical conduct and discrimination/violence towards women, homosexuals, non-jilbab-wearers, "adulterers" etc as you'd expect in the meanest of the Islamic states. And where do they find those discriminatory laws and the "divine" authority to enforce them? The Quran of course.

@gorillaman You make a few salient points (about the life/example of M. and the fact that, unlike The Bible, the Quran is the work of one author, alive at the time of the religion's birth) but you lose all credibility by
a) using a homophobic slur as a pejorative in your first line and
b) making gross (and false) generalisations, notably the all-caps
"THIS IS WHAT ALL MUSLIMS BELIEVE" which is so easily demonstrably false (simply ask the nearest muslim). If it had read "this is what fundamentalist muslims believe" or even "this is what all muslims should believe if they want to honestly hold that the Quran is the perfect word of God" then you would be a bit closer to reality.
Finally, the hyperbole of your last paragraph does not help your credibility either. I am as antitheist as one can be, and the gross demonisation of religious believers (aka fellow human beings) as criminals and inhumane, ethic-less zombies not only made me shake my head sadly, it also reminded me of how religious extremists depict atheists.

The reason I pointed to your first comment as one of the "ignorant extremes" of attitude towards Islam and violence is that, the way I read it, it illustrated the common rebuttal that often comes from the far-left when a terrorist/mass-murderer is found out to be a Muslim extremist: "it must be other political/socio-economical factors, it can't be plain old religious fanaticism" or "it's our fault for waging war on them". While I agree that the US should never have gone a-warring in the ME, it's often a false equivalence and ignorant simplification to exclude or minimise the religious factor. In hindsight it was maybe rash of me to read that much into your comment, but I hope I have made clear what I meant.

As a car driver, I support it. Gets more people out of my way.
I like bikes getting to the front of traffic while I'm sitting at lights because they get off the line quicker than most cars do, and I'm not basing that on machine capability, I'm basing it on my observation that bikes appear to pay more attention and are usually ready the instant the light goes green (possibly because they don't want to get rear ended)

As for lane splitting being dangerous, yeah of course there's a potential for a very negative situation if/when people aren't paying attention or staying in control of their vehicle.. but then so is having nothing but a painted line separating you from oncoming traffic at 100km/h.
For any reason why lane splitting is bad, consider other driving situations by the same logic, if you have one that is notable (other than due to the lack of a crumple zone, as this is a trump card), then let me know.

I pay attention when merging lanes and use the indicator to signal before I start merging as it is intended, and have never had an issue or impact with bikes (or anyone for that matter). I also position my car either closer to the side of the road or middle of my lane in traffic to make it easier for bikes to get past, and it appears a decent amount of others do this as well.
Not sure if it's legal in Aus (I don't think it is), but I've never seen cops pull a biker over for it. Besides, it's efficient and if everyone is doing what they're supposed to (i.e. paying attention to their surroundings + controlling their vehicle well), then there shouldn't be an issue.

I'm interested in the reasons why it's bad or shouldn't be done, as I may be missing something from a bikes perspective.

@Sagemind, sounds like you may have other solid points, like the drifting and merging. I see these as issues, but my points are based on people supposed to be paying attention, controlling their vehicles (easier for some) and bikes picking their moments to dive through while not being rash about it.
Side note, I do see lots of cars and bikes behavior as being hard to judge and thus dangerous, if this is your main point, then I agree.
