Star Wars’ infamous Holiday Special, explained.

YouTube's Rules Don't Apply to Everyone

ChaosEngine says...

Youtube are consistently inconsistent. As much as I admire some youtubers and think making short films would be a great way to make a living, I am so glad my income is not dependent on the increasingly arbitrary whims of google.

For example, Brady Haran of Numberphile made a video about "derangements", a concept in combinatorial mathematics. Fairly dry stuff unless you're a math geek. YouTube flagged the video and even when he submitted it for "manual review" it was still deemed inappropriate for advertisers.....

although the problem has apparently since been resolved. Nothing to do with Brady also having an immensely popular podcast where he complained about it, I'm sure. (For the record, Hello Internet is awesome!)

The Disturbing History of the Suburbs

Can't help but imagine rabbit ears and whiskers flailing as he gesticulates! Perhaps it's his penchance to take his viewers down the Rabbit Hole of some social misjustice. I know he does explore further into these topics on a separate podcast...they are still Gordian knots which will convince no opponent.

Craig Ferguson Has a 15-Second, Naked Commute to Work

I still miss Craig.

I mean, I even have Sirius and I still have a difficult time catching his radio show. Man, now I'm wondering if he has podcasts of his past shows.

SMBC Theater - Wargames

History Lesson:

In 1949, when only the United States had nuclear weapons, everybody was asking when the Russians would have the capability.

President Harry Truman answered the question with "I know...never"

He never clarified what he meant by those words, and those in that meeting declined to ask, but the topic would be rehashed again and again.

I really recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast. Episode 59 (Blitz) the Destroyer of Worlds. A nearly 6 hour fascinating look into the period starting with the Trinity test and ending with the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Liberal Redneck - Muslim Ban

I'm really only regurgetating what people like Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Sam Harris, Maajid Nawaz, Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins have said in their books and podcasts. So I'll direct you there, as they articulate it way better than me.
There is also http://www.pewresearch.org/topics/muslims-and-islam/ which the statistics are quite alarming, and the left choose to ignore many of these. They assume that everyone in the world is a good person, and that they would do good if they had the same opportunities. It's simply not the case.
All religions are not equal either (and I'm a staunch atheist), and neither are all cultures.

We might not have a perfect world, but it's dishonest to try to claim that everything and everyone is the same. It's dishonest to ignore that the majority of the world has decided to stop stoning gays, crucifying human rights protesters, and treating women worse than dogs. Just to name a few things.

newtboy said:

That's a convenient, but likely baseless claim. Do you have any peer reviewed studies to back it up?
It's the same thing that allows it in every religion. Immoral people assume leadership positions and instruct faithful to act atrociously. Christianity was just as inhumane, the phrase isn't "nobody expects the Muslim inquisition". It's misguided to get myopic about history in order to demonize one religion, they all fall into this pitfall, it's the nature of blind faith that it's easily abused.
A good question might be what is it about religion that it makes normal people act as if they have mental issues, and I think I just answered that.
Looking at the issue honestly, not biased against "them", is essential. It allows you to ask "did my culture find a way to stop this behavior, and if so, how." Since no culture seems 100% free from it, pointing fingers isn't helpful. Since it's true that they aren't the only ones to "be bad", how is it dishonest? What fact does it ignore?
The left is not the factually challenged side of the two. The left believes science, the right doesn't. Issue settled.

This one's a bit dated (5 weeks), but still good stuff:

Mark Ames on "Putin-did-it", starting at around 25:40.

Edit: also, first episode of Intercepted is out, Jeremy Scahill's weekly podcast.

He's got Sy Hersh on this time, and Hersh had a lot to say about "Putin-did-it", including this bit:
"It’s high camp stuff. What does an assessment mean? It’s not a national intelligence estimate. If you had a real estimate, you would have five or six dissents. One time they said 17 agencies all agreed. Oh really? The Coast Guard and the Air Force — they all agreed on it? And it was outrageous and nobody did that story. An assessment is simply an opinion. If they had a fact, they’d give it to you. An assessment is just that. It’s a belief. And they’ve done it many times."

Still mad I missed them in Oakland in 87-88....and in Hawaii in 87. I was in boarding school in Hawaii, so missed the 87 and 88 Oakland shows, and couldn't leave school for the 87 Hawaii show.

Good stuff, good stuff. I hope I can catch them the next time through California....
