Steam link is very interesting to me.

I'm a PC gamer. I don't own any consoles and 99% of the time I'm perfectly happy with that (using a controller for an FPS is sick and wrong!).

But there are some games I would like to play from my couch with a controller (Arkham for instance)

As for the controller itself, it looks ok, but I really don't see any reason to use it over my trusty old 360 pad. As I said, I'll never play an fps with anything other than kbm, so unless it's better for driving or 3rd person, I'm gonna go with meh.

Oh and just in case anyone thinks I'm just hating on Valve, I'm drinking coffee at work from my aperture science mug and I have a signed poster of the TF2 heavy in my house

Poor woozie babies. Last year, after my Elwood came home from a dental procedure, he was so comfortable curled up in my lap he just peed. Jake pees in the carrier before we even see the vet ... no need for drugs. Reminds me, gotta stock up on pee pads before their yearly exams this coming Monday. Sigh

At one point he was adjusting something on the center pad of the steering wheel. I wonder what that was.

The mind link was never more present after the smartphone came out. I watch mobile noobs taking several minutes to type what I can in seconds.

SC2 pro gamers clock in at over 400 APM, with records over 800. 300 APM is about where you want to be before you even consider yourself a competitive player!

But we're not sure yet, right? That doesn't mean it isn't possible, but you will def need to practice, just like the pros.

I really like the concept of using 2 directional pads to make keystrokes. If you can play a bullet hell game, why is that type of movement not considered probable?

Every day I'm more surprised there isn't a racial uprising against police and reciprocation of this behavior, ending in numerous cops shot dead by 57 bullets in self defense because they had a pen and pad in their hand. If 'well trained' officers can make that mistake constantly, why not citizens? Maybe that's why they are so pant-pissingly terrified of a black man with a gun, they know it would be reasonable for it to be used against them in self defense?

If I were black, I would be dead or in jail today. No question.

I opted back in and did a "standard sift watching session" for me of a few videos.

This time I forced myself to actually look for things that I noticed weren't in the places that I was expecting.

Some more thoughts:

I tried to figure out where to see "who voted for this video", currently under the comment entry box. I can't find that information in beta UI. I must admit that the current location isn't particularly logical, but I know to look for it there and I can't find it at all in the beta.


The "sidebar" content changed from Sift of the Week / Comment of the Moment / Leaderboard List (of whatever section you are currently in; Top New Videos, Top Videos Expiring Soon, etc.) to Suggested Videos and Related Videos. I think the old sidebar content was more likely to be relevant to what I want.

I get that that stuff has been moved into the header menus, but in my opinion it is harder to access there:
For beta - mouse to Watch button/menu, hover, mouse to relevant section like Top New Videos, mouse to which one I want
Old - mouse to what I want in the sidebar, which is probably already visible but not taking up TOO much screen real estate, and if it isn't visible it is a quick mousewheel jump away

In the meantime, the new sidebar makes stuff that I personally don't care about at all BIGGER. I don't understand what/who suggests the "Suggested Videos" and by what criteria they are deemed to be of interest to me, and "Relevant Videos" are mostly relevant in a long-timescale sense (ie., stuff from a single video series, containing same/similar tags, etc.) where on the sift a big part of the appeal is to vote on what is hot NOW. But those two things take up more space than the old sidebar that was filled with stuff that I *did* care about; they are now big thumbnails with a title underneath plus lots of spacing between list items compared to small thumbnail with title *beside* and very minimal extra padding/spacing between list items. So, the new sidebar has stuff I don't want to see, and spaces it out so that I have to scroll the mousewheel a lot more to get through it (even though it has fewer total list items than before!).


A big part of my personal enjoyment and engagement with the sift is video comments. I'm not a big fan of the beta font for comments, but I think I could potentially get used to it. But more important than the font is that it seems like each comment gets less total screen real estate, and there is more padding/space between each comment AND the sidebar.

I'd like to see that spacing/pad cut down to more like the old style. Beyond that, I figure it is safe to assume that you're not interested in bringing the old sidebar content back (Sift of the Week / Comment of the Moment / Top X Videos) from its beta location in the menubar. Assuming that that will stay there, I'd *much* rather see comment boxes that take up the majority of the page width with NO sidebar. Old sidebar and old style comments would be my personal choice, but assuming that isn't going to happen, I just feel like the beta sidebar is unnecessary and massively oversized / overspaced.


So, I gave it another shot ... back to opting out for me for now.

You are certainly welcome to your opinion, I just disagree.
I find it easy to believe that closely held military techniques could have been lost once the tool (bow) was no longer useful in the military. That is certainly the case for sword fighting/making.
As he mentioned, the method used today is better for stationary target shooting, the kind of shooting done today. Old school methods are so lost that most people believe in the back mounted quiver, which he showed clearly doesn't work in practice. Aiming with one eye also doesn't work on moving targets at different ranges, you need both eyes to determine distance properly.
As for armor, long bows penetrate plate armor, with mail beneath, and leather beneath that, at serious distance. It seems like a non-broad head arrow should penetrate chain mail and leather padding relatively easily, it would only need to split 1 or 2 rings to get through as I see it, which isn't that much. Also, I note at least one of his bows is not totally old school, but seems to be an odd compound style, probably giving him more power than it seems.
Shooting the arrow out of the air, I won't call fake, but probably took dozens of tries to get, even though the arrows were lobbed at him. Splitting one was likely unintentional, but still cool!

I guess you didn't watch until the part where he still makes it through chain mail and the padding beneath repeatedly and at speed, or shot arrows out of the air?

We have an empty rock-pool feature in the entrance to one of our warehouses. We've been in discussions on what to do with it for a couple of months. Some silly idea's are to get the water feature going again, or fill it with plants, or have a lighting display. My proposal has been to fill it with ball-pit balls.

The ball-pit idea has a lower running cost, than the other 3 ideas.
The lights and plants have already been rejected.
Water is a slip hazard, rejection is immanent.
My idea has not yet been rejected. Padding modifications are cheap, already have the quotes.

We are still in discussions.

Just to clarify terminology. Heart attack is not the same as cardiac arrest.
Basically a heart attack is when the arteries to the heart become occluded causing chest pain and (as time goes by) cardiac muscle damage.
A cardiac arrest is where the heart is unable to pump blood to supply the brain causing a loss of consciousness. Cardiac arrest can be caused by arrhythmias, large blood clots in the lung and also heart attacks where either a large part of the heart is infarcted or because an arrhythmia develops secondary to infecting an important conducive pathway in the heart.

The majority of heart attacks cause chest pain and no loss of consciousness but the ones that do cause LOC have a poor survival rate.
When someone collapses like this you have no idea what the cause is but if they are not breathing then you should call for help and start CPR immediately.
Defibrillators are found on tube stations, supermarkets etc and are designed for members of the public to use - they talk you through the steps.
The pads analyse the rhythm of the heart to see if it's a 'shockable' rhythm. If it's not then no shock will be delivered which is why it's essential that CPR has been started and is maintained until help arrives.

A common misconception (in tv/movies) is that a 'flat line' can be shocked back into a normal rhythm when in fact if the defibrillator reads a 'flat line'( technical term asystole) then it will not initiate a shock.

I thought the same thing but assumed that the pads they put on the patient was able to diagnose if it was a cardiac arrest (thanks @worthwords) and needed defibrillation. I cant imagine they would treat a patient without professional medical knowledge of the patients condition.
