Does not fit you moral standards?

Why I’m ALL-IN On Tesla Stock

vil says...

That is the point of discussion, right?

I know a true gold standard is inferior to a well functioning reserve bank issuing paper money and an international exchange standard based on mutual trade agreements.

I am not sure I can explain it well or convince you, but I like you so I try.

Unfortunately the matter seems to be complicated.

The fact that something has, as you put it, "real" value is actually a bad thing, as clipping gold coins is as old as gold coins.

So let us assume gold coins are out and we are going to use some form of symbolic money...

Nope this will not fit in this thread.

Trump does not really fit the RINO template.

Rino are Republicans who align themselves with democrats. McCain, Graham , Flake, Corker to name a few.

Trump is actually doing a great job, even though he could be neither Democrat nor Republican-- He dose not fit any mold.

newtboy said:

RHINOs....you mean like Trump? Even you would admit he's certainly not a Republican by any definition from pre 2016.

I hope those that stand with and for the constitution will keep those who stand on it at bay. Sadly, the last two years has shown that many charged with that responsibility either don't or won't.

FYI @C-note ... the kids channel is for child appropriate videos. This video certainly does NOT fit that definition. Please read the channel descriptions yourself if you refuse to believe others like @newtboy

Senator Jeff Flake Eloquently Addresses Our Political State

bobknight33 says...

Good speech but to lay this at the feet of the POTUS is BS.

This debasing of discourse of our government leaders have been slipping for years.

Republicans have been cowards for decades. This is why they constantly loose. Current POTUS is not a politician with a lawyer background, held by the standards of decorum set by that profession. Trump is a NYC citizen who doesn't take crap and willing to fight back, which he does. Sorry that he does not fit the political mold of smooth talk lying out both sides of their mouth. Trump just the same bullshit artist as any politician just not as smooth.

Harvey Weinstein, Trump, Systemic Sexism: A Closer Look

BicycleRepairMan says...

FUCK, i hate it when someone i agree with makes a poor argument, Yes, Trump is a self-admitted sexist and sexual harraser, and perhaps worse (even in that field), and he is totally unfit for any pulic office, but his (unwarranted) assault on PR's mayor cannot be explained by sexism; case in point: his latest twitter barrage(among many like it) was against bob corker (old, white, male, republican) or, in Trumps words "liddle corker" and its all because he lashes out uncontrollably against ANYONE that ushers the slightest hint of criticism of him or his ideas. And this is the problem with Trump: He is just.. insane.. the guy is not stable. Regardless of his sexism, racism, sexual predatoriness, HE IS NOT FIT FOR OFFICE.

Why do these confederate monuments fall apart so easily?

Racist is what you do, not what you say.

Stormsinger says...

I'm beginning to think you're fully aware of what you're saying and that you're just trolling at this point.

You cannot possibly be quoting a definition that is 100% applicable to your own statement as some kind of evidence that your statement does not fit the definition. And yet, you did.

I don't have the patience to deal with this kind of shit, and if it weren't for insomnia, I wouldn't have the time either.

Houston Helicopter Officer Lands and Tackles Suspect

radx says...

That stood out to me as well. The suspect wasn't even able to sprint before he was hit by the cruiser, which slowed him down even more. Yet the officer in the cruiser decided to just drive around instead of walking 10m to apprehend the guy.

And when he got out, the first thing he did was kick the suspect in the back.

No, sir, you are not fit to serve as an officer of the law.

I love how that pilot sprints in like a 100m Olympian, finally gets the guy on the floor, at which point a fat cop jumps out of his car, waddles over at full speed and puts the boot in!

Ken Burns slams Trump in Stanford Commencement

bareboards2 says...

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/17/opinion/campaign-stops/a-week-for-all-time.html?emc=edit_th_20160617&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=40977923

Golden quote:
"In this week of trial and tragedy, Trump showed us how he would govern — by fear, by intimidation, by lies, by turning American against American, by exhibiting all the empathy of a sociopath. Seal this week. Put it in a time capsule. Teach it. History will remember. But come November, will we?"

By the way, I've stayed out of this extremely boring back and forth. There was nothing to be gained by weighing in. It finally has come to a blessed end, just as this op-ed was published in the New York Times.

So I'll say it again, since this video is my contribution to the Sift and I am claiming final word. I may not be accorded it, but I am claiming it.

It is a stone hard fact that eligible does not equal fit. A brain-damaged accident victim with the right birth certificate, with the right age, is eligible to be president. That person is not fit to be president. This is logic. It just is. You can ignore the crystalline beauty of the fact of this analogy and have a fine time talking around it. Doesn't change the fact that Ken Burns is right, Timothy Egan is right, Mitt Romney, both Bushes, Meg Whitman, and the Republican strategist who is quoted in this op-ed are all right.

Trump is unfit for the Presidency.

The Danish School Where Children Play With Knives

Lukio says...

There are some schools like this in Germany as well. Usually children that have issues like attention deficit disorder or do not fit into a normal school (problem child) will attend to such a "Forest school" (Waldschule). There are studies that it benefits development as the change in scenery from the busy city life helps the children adjust. It is definitely not very common and children still need to attend regular classes.

To say it has a flair of "anti science" is a bit far fetched as these schools often teach a lot about the local flora and fauna, do stuff like looking at water samples under a microscope or take earth probes. Sure it is not super scientific, it probably compares to what most kids would do as boy scouts - except it's part of the school's education program. For some kids this approach is better at fueling their scientific curiosity than in a regular school environment where they have many other issues to deal with.

People who disagree with science generally don't come out so well in the end--see anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, etc. I'd change my mind about these kindergartens if there were solid science behind them.

Everything We Think We Know About Addiction Is Wrong

newtboy says...

Mammalian brain chemistry is similar, which is why rats can be used to find out things about humans. Pretty simple science, that.
Your premise is that ALL rats are happy, because they are all being rats? That sounds absolutely insane, and is just like saying all humans are happy because they are all being humans. It's easily proven wrong by a tiny bit of observation. Rats are not all happy, even well cared for pet rats have bad days.

If a 'relationship with our creator' causes happiness, why is it that SO large a majority, if not all 'religious' people seem so angry and upset ALL the time? I suggest it's because reality does not fit what they've been taught, and they choose to believe the teachings rather than reality. That would upset anyone.

If 'sin' causes death, pain, and disaster in one's life as you suggest, please tell me why (good) religious people aren't all rich, happy, healthy, empathetic, reasonable, thinking people, and also please tell me how atheist people can possibly be successful (and please note, repeated studies have shown that atheists are both more successful and happier people in general).
Also, if the 'wage of sin' is death, why isn't there a single non-sinner 300+ years old proving your point?

Who asked that guy to pay for my sins'?!? Now I have to go do them all over again. That bastard! (both figuratively and literally)
Also, what kind of self serving tripe is it that 'he died for your sins, but only if you serve him'. That's not altruistic in any way shape or form, it's a totally unprovable, 100% self serving idea put forth by churches to get your money.

Religion is the cage, the bars made of your 'sin'. To those that don't believe, there's no cage, and no bars, just a bunch of people stuck in place claiming they can't move because 'god', and a bunch of atheists walking around 'free'.

Anyone notice that some conclusions of the basic premise were drawn from the behavior of rats? It's kind of interesting how we all just kind of nod and smile when a scientist or psychologist draws conclusions about us from rodents. The reason that the rat is happy in rat happy land is because that is all the reason the rat is here; to be a rat. If a rat is getting his senses stimulated, physically and socially, he is going to be happy because there is nothing more to his life. There is more to our lives than having our senses stimulated by physical pleasures and social interactions.

We, unlike rats or any other animals, were created to have a relationship with our Creator. Existence in the material world will never fully satisfy anyone, because our hearts are longing for eternal, and not temporal satisfaction, which only God can give us. Our happiness on Earth is largely dependent on our conditions, and if our conditions are bad, happiness and peace are fleeting. Real life with God brings a lasting satisfaction and peace which transcends every circumstance of life, and a living hope which buoys the spirit and brings unending joy.

I agree with the idea of the cage, and that cage is the prison of sin. it has nothing to do with social connections, or lack thereof. Some of the most famous people on Earth, who have the whole world as their oyster, are addicted to drugs, depressed, disillusioned, and grasping for meaning in their lives. Sin is a spiritual prison which brings only death and destruction. In this life you reap what you sow, and the wages of sin is death. A seed thrown into dry ground, cracking under the noon-day sun, is not going to bear any fruit. So it is when people go into the desert of sin looking for paradise; the illusion will occasionally be dispelled by a mouthful of sand, but like a rat they keep going back to the trap.

There is a way out, because although we cannot pay for our own sins and escape the trap, the Lord Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sins so that we could be set free. On the cross, He paid the price for our sins, yours and mine; when we begin to trust Him as our Lord and Savior, He will give us a new life, and a new heart with new desires to turn away from sin and live according to His will. We are set free from the bondage, not only of addiction, but sin and death. He heals our deepest wounds and comforts us, he heals deep seated habits, depression and mental illness.

When you open the cage of sin and let the Lord in, this scripture begins to operate: 2Cor3:17 Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty
