Rebecca Black: The Dark Side of Fame

Jinx says...

Be careful what you wish for. Maybe if she'd wished for musical talent instead of fame, or perhaps her rich mummy should have bought her music lessons instead of a shitty music video...

I don't understand why people hate her. Its misplaced. I hate that fucking song ofc, but its our fault she's famous, not hers.

Ron Paul Defends Heroin in front of SC audience

dannym3141 says...

>> ^shinyblurry:

I don't believe the government should regulate our personal lives. It's a fine line. Take the heroin example. Heroin is so dangerous, and so deadly. Overdosing is not hard, at all..and I personally know a lot of people who would probably become heroin addicts rather quickly if it was easy as picking it up in the convenience store.
An incontrovertible fact is, if heroin is legalized, people are going to die from it who wouldn't have otherwise. Is it worth lives to make a dangerous and deadly drug available to masses under the pretense of liberty? Why can't we be rational, and reasonable instead..and say, well the cause of liberty should outweigh the harm..but we will collectively decide that some of these are just so dangerous that it is worth impringing on our liberty to keep them illegal.
The bible says that everything is permisable(besides what is explicitly forbidden) but not everything is beneficial. Likewise, though liberty is valuable it is not always beneficial to the whole. Remember, when liberty is taken to the extreme you have anarchy.

Know what else is dangerous? Sky diving, bungee jumping, base jumping, some parkour, motorcycle racing, f1, trick motorcycle jumps, you fucking name it, we do it.

In my own personal opinion, it is not the place of a government to act as my mummy, taking dangerous toys off me, reprimanding me for doing something hazardous to my health. Human kind has lived for many long long years without that kind of omnipresent babysitter.

It is not government's job to say what you can and can't do with or to your own body as long as you are not directly harming anyone else in the act of doing it. Part of being free is having the responsibility for the effects of your actions on yourself and on the people you love.

(inb4 drugs harm others) The only reason drugs harm others right now is because they are illegal.

Edit:
Whoops i forgot to add - ron paul continues to say things that make absolute perfect undeniable sense! Can he come over here and run a political party please? I want to see/know more.

What I Am Legend would have looked like with non-CG monsters

probie says...

My personal take: the problem with CGI and 3D anmiation (and it's only been exacerbated by the new trend in 3D moviemaking) is it gives the director too much control. Regarding camera placement, instead of employing traditional camera movement, now that in can be placed anywhere, it has been. We get these rollercoaster spins, pans, trucks and zooms that completely disorient the viewer. In "Tron Legacy", do I really need to see the light cycles in profile, hovering only 2 inches off the ground going 100mph to the right, only to vault over the bike and sweep around to the back of it to showcase another light cycle entering the fray? No. Just because you can place the camera inside someone's butt crack doesn't mean you should.

And with CGI, it gives the director too much leeway in exaggerating scale, movement and proportions. Perfect example: In Stephen Sommers remake of "The Mummy" Imhotep screams and his mouth artificially elongates. If you watch earlier in the film, it does so but only slightly, imparting a sense of the supernatural. But by the end of the film, his screams become so overly done, it comes across as comic and bufoonish, as if I was watching a Tex Avery cartoon. That's OK to do in Jim Carrey's "The Mask" because it calls for it. But not in "The Mummy", nor in "I Am Legend". The vampires in "I Am Legend" aren't threatening, they're evil monster meets Stretch Armstrong.

I like Aronofsky's approach to CGI: Use it as sparingly as you can, and only as a last resort.

I also love the basic mechanic of humour displayed at such an early age
--> expectation (fear) Is not equal to outcome (mummy smiling) result is laughter.

All comedy is built on an expected premise having an unexpected outcome.

Apparently it's the human technique that allows us to learn new patterns... that animals with only instincts can't do.

Each of the examples you outlined clearly would be classified as abuse under the guidelines. What I wanted was something that proved legally that this was abuse. It seems like something that people would consider important, especially to those who argue so vehemently that this is abuse, that there should be a law to reflect that. I personally don't think that it is abuse, and I am happy that the laws don't reflect that it is as far as my limited search can tell. But if you think it should be, why not look it up and try to improve the law? That's what the law is there for after all.
Maybe next time you could actually read before you open your mouth.>> ^dannym3141:
Oh i get it, it has to be legally set out that it's a form of abuse in order for it to be abuse, jigga?
What about if she set up a trick where it looked like she'd hung herself and was dead when the kid got home, then screamed in his face "IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT MUMMY TO DO?" What if she constantly belittled him into the ground like only a parent can, every single day - told him he was fat and looked like a disgusting fat pig, you eat too much fatty, or worse? What if she told him she was going to leave him, pack her bags up and leave him all alone, fend for yourself, maybe you'll starve?
I'm throwing things up off the top of my head that i think might not be legislated for. I'm not a sadistic person, but i'm sure a real sadist could do better than i. And then we could go and look up whether or not they're legal and tailor it to avoid jail. Any of these things might not be set out legally as abuse, but it really REALLY fucks up someone's life.
There are many forms of recognised abuse that sit nicely on the border between legal and illegal - and you might find that's the worst kind of abuser, because it's the kind of abuser who calculated it, looked up the exact limits and planned something specifically designed to make them live in utter terror and despair, grow up to be a suicide risk, whatever else, but to have no repercussions on her/himself.
Once upon a time, nothing was illegal, then we came along and invented laws, one by one, to keep people safe from fucking lunatics. Maybe we haven't made a law about everything that needs to be a law just yet, meantime we have to hope that moral conscience does the work for us.

I am very pleased that you ignored the qualifying statement i put underneath those listed. I am not a legal expert (and neither are you) and i wouldn't consider a brief internet search anywhere near enough to state with certainty anything to do with the law on abuse - hence why i put a qualifier. Perhaps you shouldn't consider a brief search to be good enough either.

You've missed the sentiment - that you can tailor your abuse to legal limits by your own argument, which in a ways makes the abuse that much worse - cold, calculated, planned.

Perhaps you should read a full comment before you open your own mouth.

Additionally, jigga, i've noticed this about you in almost all arguments we get into. You seem to analyse a comment for any ambiguity and then make an entire reply based on, say, a single sentence. If you took the time to read a full comment with an open mind, you might actually get what someone is trying to say. I clearly told you that i was coming up with things "off the top of my head which i think might not be legislated for," yet your entire reply was based around me not being an expert in law. The other 20 sentences in my post said this:

Law is not the be all and end all of what is right and wrong. Many forms of abuse can be tailored to sit within the law, which shows some sort of disgusting level of sickness above and beyond someone lashing out and hitting a child in a fit of uncontrolled rage.

I don't know who Deanna Russo is, but I like her
That was another bloody gold video from College Humor, dang them and their ways of shooting a video well, and producing it really professionally... damn them all... we all still remember them when they were wet behind the ears, and look what they've done for us... hey? Nothing, that's what, they have left us while they've gone and got all big and famous and think they're better than....
Ahem
Yeah, that was a good video...

Really?
Honestly, no trolling or generic insults, but when i see the college humour thing pop up with the music starting, i go "ugh" and immediately close the video. I think i could pinpoint 2 i ever liked, like the we didn't start the flame war one.

Hi, I'm a closed-minded individual, and I'd like to tell you how negative I am! All my friends say I'm a downer because I never want to have any fun. I never like anything so I don't even try anymore! My mommy tells me I'm only hurting myself in the long run, but I think the fact that I don't have a girlfriend is a GOOD thing because then I don't have to pretend I like something.

Whilst we're being creative, i'll throw in this for you:
Oh how annoying it must be,
To have my bullshit thrown back at me.
Hi, i'm a close minded individual, and i'd like to tell you that you're a closed minded individual! All my friends say i'm open minded because we like the exact same things and have fun doing the same things. Only my opinion counts so everyone else is being close minded if they disagree! My mummy tells me i'm being close minded myself but she's just being close-minded, so i think that my girlfriend is REALLY open minded because we both like the exact same things!
<insert insult about virginity/married status because the highground is giving me vertigo>

Touche! Jolly good show, olde chappe!
In the time it took you to write that, however, you could have actually watched the video and had a decent chuckle. Perhaps.

Gave it a minute, didn't draw me in with a laugh

Fair enough. But why not come for the laughs, stay for the eroticism?
