Jon Stewart Goes After Fox in Ferguson Monologue

lantern53 says...

Because I have no reason to believe they are corrupt. The action of the cop, to me, appears to be self-defense, not an act of corruption.

Burning down businesses where you live doesn't do anyone any good, does it? But to you it's perfectly reasonable, is that right? It's a natural act brought on by oppression.

Did all of the black people riot? No, seems to me only the young ones, mostly male. That is on them. Don't blame the cops. If you don't like how the cops police, then vote in your own representatives, fire the chief, protest at the police department, be vocal at the town council...but leave your molotov cocktails at home.

How about some responsible behavior?

Not the best day to be a riot cop

Keep filling bucket with thick, gooey, stick glop that gets all over the riot cops whilst sorties of some slippery fluid for their ranks to lose their footing on are thrown from the rear Molotov cocktail styley....

Have other folks throw ball bearings balloons..

SLide slide, slippety slide, all non-lethal and all very slily and efficient.

Occupy Wall Street vs. Tea Party

shagen454 says...

Never forget the way America works. Tea Party protests were covered all over the media, the media never spoke of their tinges with racism and homophobia among many other things including being a sell out corporatist movement. They glorified those FOX fried fanatics.

They ignored the OWS movement from day one because they are not interested in investing in this movement because this movement is a direct threat to them. They made them look like idiotic, homeless, hippy bums. Shame on you.

Remember, whether or not September II was an inside job, THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS protested, in some places hundreds of thousands came out to protest the War in Iraq and were not covered by the mainstream media for months. If it was reported they made it seem like it was just a bunch of anarchists smashing windows.

Theyve thrashed everything but these days, unlike back a decade ago, they have continued to lose their grip on the publics mass media feeding tube. WATCH THE FUCK OUT CORPORATE AMERICA.

I like me some peaceful protests Ghandi style. But I hope someone is getting those molotov cocktails ready.

He's lucky because if he made the cocktail correctly it acts as napalm with a certain amount of jelly/lubricant. Also, I hate when people go to their favorite outdoor spot and break glass. I hope he stepped on some.

Lucky to be in the water too!

Gov't stopped funding charity, private donations surge 500% (Politics Talk Post)

blankfist says...

@JiggaJonson, lol. What? Not sure what you expect me to do. I pay taxes and use the services I'm forced to pay for. Is that not what I should be doing? Are you expecting me to be in the streets with Molotov Cocktails and a black handkerchief wrapped around my face?

Thoreau was an anarchist and you statists that adore him can't reconcile that. He believed mankind should be constantly transitioning toward a better government, i.e., no government. Sorry if that tickles your cognitive dissonance.

Japanese hand-thrown fire extinguishers work really well!

The image of the person in the wheel chair throwing it is so inclusive. Talk about an anti-molotov cocktail... and the guy in the wheelchair in fact appears! And.... it doesn't work for him. Man.

I don't agree with the statement that The US is giving a giant aid package to Egypt and looking the other way. I doubt the US is afraid of the Egytian security forces using "sticks, knives, swords, and Molotov cocktail's", as the main crowd control tools of water canons, percussion grenades, gas canisters, tanks etc. are USA made and USA bought for them. President Mubarak does the bidding of the US, even when the population strongly disagree, and if the population start to disagree physically, that's what the 1.3 billion dollars of military/security aid helps to fend against. The US supports puppet strong men over populations they don't trust.

^unclejimbo,
It does not mean that in the absence of guns genocide always occurs, but there has never been an instance of genocide where the victims had a means to defend themselves. If you take away the guns, and somewhere down the road something intense happens which causes a philosophical shift, you are ripe for genocide. Just look at WW2, the Japanese were rounded up into internment camps. How many Japanese lives do you think were spared because the US government did not have the physical power to kill them as a result of an armed populace? How about for arabs after 9-11?

Sorry but a minority bearing arms does not protect it from a majority supported tyranny. Iraqi Kurds spring to mind. They were armed and even had a semi-organised guerrilla army but they were obliterated by Hussein’s ruthless deployment of military force including chemical weapons.

I’m just struggling to see the practical application of the right to bear arms. If the secret service come round your house to round you up what are you going to do, shoot them? Once you’ve shot them, more will turn up, then what? Unless you have an awful lot of sympathisers willing to die for you then you’re pretty much screwed. If you have enough people behind you there is no need for guns – rocks and Molotov cocktails (or even just placards) would do just fine.

I’m highly sceptical of your Japanese American internment example. I know of no show of force by the Japanese Americans who were rounded up, nor of any armed support from white Americans. I was under the impression that the whole episode was possible because of widespread racism against Asian Americans and that gun holders were no more likely to save their lives than they were to take them. Since I very much doubt gun ownership was allowed in the interment camps I fail to see how it protected the inhabitants once they were interred. All the government needed to do was “relocate” them out of sight and they could have “disappeared” plenty of Japanese Americans without anyone finding out for quite some time. That they didn’t was more down to the US government’s (misguided) motives differing from more menacing aims of other regimes of the time.

ps. Sorry for the thread hijack everyone

Palin on Abortion Clinic Bombers - Not Terrorists

thinker247 says...

Palin: "<continued from video>...but it's unacceptable, and it would not be condoned, of course, on our watch, but...I don't know if what you're asking is if I regret referring to Bill Ayers as an unrepentant domestic terrorist...I don't regret characterizing him as that."

Brian Williams: "I'm just asking what other categories you would put in there. Abortion clinic bombers, protesters in cities where fires were started, molotov cocktails were thrown, people died?"

Palin: "I would put in that category of Bill Ayers anyone else who would seek to campaign to destroy our United States Capitol, and our Pentagon, and would seek to destroy innocent Americans."

--
Adding the word "innocent" certainly changes the tone of her message. Does that mean she thinks anybody in an abortion clinic is not innocent? She is so good at skirting the question. I don't think she's given a solid answer yet.
