Atomic Blonde - Charlize Theron will fuck you up

SDGundamX says...

So this is basically the female version of John Wick but instead of a puppy getting killed it's going to be her ex? It's cool to have a female kicking ass and all, but I feel like they aren't treading any new ground here, as opposed to Furiosa in Mad Max who I found actually quite refreshing as a kick-ass female lead (and a one-armed one at that).

North Korean Refugees Try American BBQ

newtboy says...

I somewhat disagree, although I don't think much of the average American's grasp on current affairs, especially foreign affairs.

N Korea, however, is so incredibly well known as a mostly desolate wasteland populated by the abused slaves of the despotic dictator that runs it that we made multiple stupid stoner movies about it (one that got Lil' Kim's goat so bad they hacked Sony). To me, that means at least Hollywood sees it as unavoidable information almost everyone knows, even stupid stoners, and really the way it's portrayed in movies and TV indicate that most people think it's worse than it actually is there. It's not really Mad Max times over there like many believe, but it is awful.

I suggest that most American do live in a cave. They don't pay attention to news. They just watch stupid shows and tune out.

They know N Korea is bad but don't really know who evil the leaders are.

Mad Max: Fury Road - Raw

Khufu says...

This is like saying a fork is better than a knife. Well sure... but at what?

I bet you couldn't pick out 90% of the cgi shots in films you watch, it's everywhere, not just the explosions (which are usually a mix of practical pyro and cgi, including mad max.)

If Meat Eaters Acted Like Vegans

transmorpher says...

I've got some bad news for you dude, you've been eating vegan food all of your life. All of that stuff on your plate that isn't beef, poultry, fish or dairy is vegan. DUH DUH DUUUUUUUH!

Tofu is also highly dependent on what flavors it's absorbing, it doesn't have any flavor itself. I rarely eat myself, mostly using it as a substitute for mayo (+bit of mustard and tabasco makes a pretty convincing substitute)

I know what you mean though some of the older vegan processed food is awful and card board like.

Give these a go one day https://gardein.com/recipes/seven-grain-tenders-with-chipotle-mayo/
(it's not like real chicken patties have much chicken in them anyway...)

EDIT: BTW there is a perfectly good way to eat animals and be vegan. Road kill.... or if you're in the field at the right time to see an old buffalo collapse.... or if a shark has bitten a fish in 1/2 and you take the other 1/2. Technically all vegan since no animals were exploited by humans. There is always breast milk too assuming you've asked for the mothers consent. (don't do it mad max style).

I'm not vegan because vegan food is fucking awful. I'm prepared to live with some animal murder if it means I can avoid tofu.

The Panama Papers, explained with piggy banks

newtboy says...

It seems like it's time to petition the white house to go after ANYONE named in the papers, and let them prove in court that they weren't really evading taxes and that they had a legitimate, legal reason to have their money there, or go to jail for tax evasion like Capone. If 95% of what they do there is tax evasion, it's reasonable to presume their customers guilty until proven innocent.
If we aren't going to prosecute these people for clearly and massively stealing from the country, then there is no rule of law and it's already Mad Max times, and the Koch brothers are really the Lord Humongous and Immortan Joe .

Fury Road was OK but it still amazes me how much praise it gets. Other than being well shot, it's really not all that great. I honestly enjoyed Road Warrior and the original Mad Max more. To each their own.

That's like saying you don't like Vampire movies because you didn't enjoy the original Nosferatu.
70's movies are nothing like today's movies. That's like comparing 70's music to today's music.
It's 40 freaking years apart. 40.

Go watch Fury Road. Just try it. And the John Wick if you haven't already. Great action.

Exorcist 3 was way better than the second movie, although technically it is a sequel to the first.

Mad Max Fury Road was better than... well, all of the Mad Max movies.

Die Hard 3 was WAY better than the snooze fest sequel. Samuel L. Jackson, man.

Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country is WAY better than the original, 3, 4, and 5. So sometimes the sequel is good and then it takes 4 more movies before you get a good one in.

James Bond arguably got better with age. Maybe not the most recent ones, but Golden Eye was amazing. Great games can also be spawned from over making a franchise!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is hands down the best of Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy. It wasn't just a western, it was an epic civil war movie in the west. And the ending with the Mexican stand off; soundtrack?!?! Hot damn! Not that the "sequel" sucked but the third was the BEST.

I know there are a couple good horror series that had a better third or fourth movie. Any Hellraiser is better than Hellraiser 2, same goes for Halloween. Though I can't say they were ever as good as their originals. It's still a hope I reserve for horror movies that make it past their shitty sequel.

The next Ring might be awesome. "Might." It's had a fairly massive career spanning 4 countries, 12 movies, 2 telvis ion series, 2 video games and a bunch of manga. Movies most people don't even know exist. I think the seventh iteration of the Ring (2002's American Ring) is the best.

And, while it might just technically count, it's worth noting that while i like Gaspar Noe's despair trilogy, his third movie Enter the Void is the only movie in the trilogy I can enjoy watching a third or fourth time. I once recommended his movies and alienated an entire office space. The only movie anyone enjoyed was his third movie.

Ghostbusters 3 will probably be better than 2. Blasphemy!! Hah, we will see. Girl power!

I think Batman also got better because of Nolan. Does that count? I mean, if a franchise goes on that long, it's all just sequels, despite the so-called canon and concept of "rebooting" a FAKE universe.

(Does Harry Potter count as the third movie in the Troll series?)

So the 3rd or 4th movies of these franchises were awesome while the sequel sucked?

Aliens vs. Predators I and II were good, while Predator 2 sucked?
Cant' agree whith you there.
Rambo 3 and John Rambo were good and Rambo 2 sucked?
I think they all sucked (except the first).
Jurassic Park 2 sucked while 3 and World were good?
I don't know, but I doubt it.
The Matrix Revolutions? Really?
I may be the only human being who hated all Matrix movies but I read of Matrix fans who wanted to scream at Neo to shut up while watchin M3 in the theatre. :-)
