Ghost in the Shell VFX Behind-the-Scenes

Mordhaus jokingly says...

Damn, ruined the whole picture for me. But on the other hand, it's a live action reboot of a manga, a genre where most of the asian characters are skillfully drawn to look more like westerners...

The Nightman Cometh Special Edition

Babymech says...

Wait what? Is this a serious question? Who the fucking fuck doesn't love Always Sunny? Am I missing something? Am I responding to a comment from 2002? How can someone not know and love IASiP?

It's the second-longest running live-action comedy in television history, and it's amazing ...do I also need to tell you to watch Arrested Development and Rick and Morty? Goddamn kids these days.

Yeah I got to the 41 second mark.

Is... this worth watching the whole 12 minutes?

Attack on Titan - live action trailer

artician says...

You can see the quality in the thumbnail as well. The Titan looks just fine in the still, but the live content looks like they haven't done anything for the quality of their cinematography. The live action elements pop right out here because they were probably filmed in a closed studio with poor quality lenses, lighting and technique.
I wasn't really waiting for this either though, so no loss for me. Just wanted to agree.

This has been available for a while, unfortunately it is not a close translation of the anime/manga. Also imo it is movies like these where the japanese really need to splurge on their visual fx.

I can't help think they did themselves a huge disservice by not making it atleast part of a boss fight. I think alot of us would love to see the series as a live action CG fest, and adapting the story should have been a part of the demo. That said, the model of unit 1 was amazing. The head piece could go a different way, but if you look carefully, especially at the hands, you can see it is armor clad angel and not some mech. That is something the anime doesn't pull off most of the time.

Deano says...

Very impressively done. And that's not including the SFX. The blend of live action with the soundtrack and editing is top notch. Definitely film quality.

I'd say the concept of an alien being hunted on earth by the army might be a little hackneyed but maybe they could spin something on that.

Blade Runner: Anime Trailer, Final Cut

newtboy says...

WHY?!?!?
When a movie is made so close to perfectly, why on earth do they keep re-making it? This looks terrible compared to the live action original.
Color me confused.

Akira Project - Live Action Trailer

artician says...

Well, that was kind of my point, though maybe you didn't take it that way.

The Akira film wasn't even faithful to the Manga, and even then it is still a really amazing piece of cinema. All this seems to be is a rehash of the animated film. It does nothing different or innovative.

The only time I think I would accept an Akira live action is if their little demo reel was a few scenes done in SUCH an inventive way that it completely took the story from 90-degrees from the left. Just wholly unexpected, but something you would watch and think "I recognize what scene this is, but I never even imagined envisioning it that way. That is fucking genius".

This was not genius. Most of this was hardly even on par with my College student films. I will agree with @chingalera that it's probably moderately better than anything hollywood would turn out, but I also don't think that's hard to do.
