EPIC FAIL! Twitch Live Streamer Accidentally Burns His House

SDGundamX says...

@Payback

Yeah, like RFlagg said, people are communicating him through the text-to-voice thing. In the beginning, they're trying to help him use the lighter by giving him pointers. Once the fire starts, they warn him that another fire has erupted behind him and later on beg for him to call 119 (Japan's emergency line).

I hate to say it, but I was laughing my ass off the whole time. The sheer absurdity of this cute anime-style voice calmly telling him to turn around or dial 119 as the flames continue to grow around him just forced me to laugh out loud.

Kotaku has an article about the incident which includes a Japanese newspaper clipping that says he burned out the 2nd floor of the house and he, his mom, and dad all sustained mild burns trying to put out the fire.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the Japanese newspaper clipping Kotaku provides specifically mentions the 40 year old son was playing with an oil lighter and dropped it in the trash by accident, which is exactly what we see in the video.

It's not the game. He was playing Minecraft. What you hear is the text to speech of his donation bot. Many Twitch streamers now use text to speech to read donations. I believe somebody said that it kept saying "behind you" but I haven't been able to independently verify that.

There has been contradicting information on the extent of the damage, to being minor with no injuries, to burning his place and 3 others down. There were initially rumors of a death, but that was later found to be another fire.

It rather much an epic fail though. I mean there's being Swatted: http://videosift.com/video/Raided-by-SWAT-SWATTED-while-live-streaming or being robbed at gunpiont: http://videosift.com/video/Twitch-Streamer-Robbed-At-Gunpoint-During-Stream, neither of which is the Streamer's fault, but this guy....

Why You Should Own An Acrylic Bong

iaui says...

This is hilarious. It seems nuts for him to do it but it really looks to be something that he's planned out, practiced, and done before in front of potential clients. He has this ready stock of christmas wrapping paper and lighter fluid and is very confident about the whole thing, all the way up until the reveal that the bong didn't survive the onslaught.

I think what happened was that he mistakenly chose a bong that wasn't fully acrylic. There's some that are fully acrylic and some that have rubber attachments at the mouth and base and as connective articulations. While those rubber attachments would probably stand up to any flames a bunch of stoners might hit it with during a session they probably (as evidenced by the video) wouldn't stand up to the same temperatures as the acrylic parts. And so they melted. Hilariously.

Laughing gas (Nitrous Oxide) Is not flammable.

From reddit comment:
The title of the video says "Fid-fad leak" in arabic, which is an anti-static clothes spray.

"Me and my brother are both fine thank god, I got 6% burns, what happened was that we were having fun in the car filming a video with the windows closed and we smelled something funny but we didn't know it was Fidfad and we didn't give it much attention, then my brother used the lighter which set the gas on fire, and I'm glad to say we are safe and all the rumours that got out are not true, and be careful of gas leaks anywhere".

Reservoir No. 2 - Shade Balls

I have another suggestion. Maybe if they were a lighter colour, people would be put off by all the very evident bird shit, moss and filth that will accumulate on them.

bremnet said:

If these are polyethylene or polypropylene, they are both highly hydrophobic in their pure form and water will not wet the surface of these materials. Given their color these are obviously not from pure polyolefin streams, so could perhaps be more hydrophilic, but it's very hard to get a PE or PP substrate to totally wet out even with high loadings of traditional fillers and reinforcements. Some folks have asked why they are black... which is indeed odd and perhaps not conducive to minimizing evaporation... and I can only imagine that the source of the polymer used to make these could be a scrap stream as they would be wanting to keep costs low, and in comingled streams the ultimate color is often dark - black, deep blue, browns etc. - when the stream is extruded and pelletized. If money was no object and they had to go with balls, then black would likely be the last choice, not the first (white - well loaded with inexpensive TiO2, or in some future universe... reflective silver!) Have fun.

Them just out of the '70s, 1980s sensibilities. Jump the river with your cop motor and FIX that cigarette lighter. I need to watch Stripes now so I can watch the sexy military police have sex with the military fuck ups. Then I'll fast forward the decade and watch Ferris Buehler not go to school.

Film in the 80s taught me about anarchy and it taught me well. Oh wait, film as media is inherently anarchistic. Aw, fuck it. Society must just stink.

Is that a... SWIMMING POOL under your lawn?!

Dumdeedum says...

I think it'd almost have to be fake grass, otherwise you'd wind up with bits of grass and earth finding their way into the pool. Plus you wouldn't be able to leave the pool open for extended periods or the grass would die. Fake grass will also be lighter and while it looks like it's a single platform here, you could theoretically build one that coils/stacks away to save space.

The capsule seems to tumble excessively. It seems like a very nauseating ride! I wonder if that's within designed parameters or if it was somehow lighter than a final capsule would be or something.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Teaser #2

poolcleaner says...

Yeah, I sort of didn't want to bring him up. I'm still reeling from Prometheus... I walked out of each Star Wars and Star Trek film shaking my head wondering what happened. But Prometheus -- there wasn't a single moment I believed I was watching a film from the Alien franchise. Sad memories... sad memories...

On a lighter note, how about M. Night's new flick? Thoughts? Ahaha! Maybe this time the secret ending is that it's going to be a good film.

All of these people are capable of making good movies and television. Where does it go wrong? Why are we being dumped on with horrible, but well meaning movies? Someone tell Hollywood their formula SUCKS. We liked it before there was a formula.

If Star Wars 7 is a piece of shit, does that mean It Follows was my favorite film of the year? That would be hilarious, because I really like that film but mostly for the score. I sort of hope it's my favorite film of the year, with awesome lofi soundtrack and "F Star Wars" as my cited reasons.

The problem with Lost, like Star Trek Into Darkness, wasn't JJ. It was Lindelof. The man's a hack. Fortunately, he's not writing this.

Virtual reality, explained with some trippy optical illusion

You went farther than I did then.
All I can say is when I cut out squares in a piece of paper, I could see a difference until they 'masked off' the image, then it had changed. I know these can work without fudging, which is why I was disappointed.
Did you note the difference between the 'colored' image and the 'masked off' image? It sure seems like there's a difference to me, if I stop it 1/2 way through and cover all but 2 squares, one is slightly lighter than the other on my monitor. That went for both the cubes and the floor tiles. Maybe it's 'eye memory' or something, but it sure seemed to me that the center tile was noticeably lighter until the 'masking off' happened.
I used a piece of paper against my monitor to measure the table,....I must have moved it when marking it, because now when I do it, it seems the tables ARE the same size. Damn touch screen, kept starting the video every time I touched it.
If those lines were really pixel straight, my paper is cut with a curve or my monitor has a problem.
Again, you went farther than I did to prove it, so I'll defer to you and accept I'm seeing things, even when I mask them off myself.

EDIT: Just a thought why I may have seen it differently, do you think it's possible that 'light bleed' or 'color bleed' on my monitor has anything to do with it? I mean, since the pixel next to the 'grey' block might be glowing bright yellow, it could color the grey slightly yellow, while the RGB value would not change?

ChaosEngine said:

Sorry, newt, but that's simply inaccurate.

I saw two grey pills too, but you're completely wrong about the others. I screen shotted all the images into paint.net to verify them.

The rubix cube image is 100% real. The RGB values for the blue and yellow tiles are identical (127,128,129).

Same with the the tiles under the table. They are are off by a small amount (rgb 70 68 71 vs rgb 70 68 70), but I'd but that down to the video encoding.

Ditto with the checkboard; zooming in with paint.net the lines are pixel straight (there is some anti-aliasing at the edges, but it doesn't affect the "straightness of the checkerboard").

The tables too, are the same size. I rotated the vertical table.

If you don't believe me, try it yourself.

The Bucket Board

newtboy says...

I bet those will board slide forever, no more curb waxing! Nice. I wonder how much they flex, my guess is they should be more flexible but less breakable than pure wood boards. Maybe lighter too.

Side note...only the board materials are 'free', the trucks and wheels still cost money. I found it odd that they pretended the entire thing is 'free' of material cost.

Definite upvote for making refuse into something people want.
