The Ancestor is a collaboration between Chinese Takeout and Crazy Lake Pictures, both young production companies forged in the fires of speed-filmmaking challenges. Chinese Takeout members Timothy Hahn – Pixar employee by day, ruthless preditor (producer/editor) by night – and Abraham Dieckman, writer-director of the upcoming sci-fi feature Trash and Progress – recently made a splash on the festival circuit with the animated short film Cadaver, featuring the voices of Christopher Lloyd, Kathy Bates, and Tavi Gevinson. Crazy Lake Pictures accomplices Mike Lavoie, co-executive producer of the acclaimed film Sleepwalk with Me, and Keith Boynton, whose feature film Chasing Home was chosen as the opening-night premiere of the 2012 Gotham Screen International Film Festival, also collaborated on the well-received "Here We Go" music video for Brooklyn-based band The Spring Standards.

The Ancestor is Crazy Lake's second video for Darlingside (after the jaunty parable "Terrible Things"), and the first meeting of the minds between Crazy Lake and Chinese Takeout, though Hahn and Boynton have enjoyed the texture of each other's brains since their days doing improv comedy together at Amherst College. All four men are sensitive film nerds who look forward to many future collaborations.

I will NEVER forget the time I watched "Misery" (@ :38) on accident. What I mean by that is I was channel surfing looking for something to watch and caught the beginning of the film but missed "Based on a novel by Steven King" in the opening credits.

[spoiler] there's a long, slow, crescendo of crazy that all stems from "I'm your number one fan!" talk and leads James Caan to try to escape from Kathy Bates in the middle of a snow storm.

After a failed attempt at that, and I think the scene right after what was shown above, Kathy Bates' character "hobbles" James Caan ala a sludge hammer.



During this climax, I literally sat up and said "HOLYFUCK!" And just before the wind up for his second ankle I "OHGODNO!"'d [/spoiler]

Ahhhh, good times accidentally watching Steven King movies.

I was watching that show right up until Kathy Griffin came out, went "Fuck this shit" and went to bed.

Besides, how is accurately describing QM's attitude towards gays a "put down"? The way he discusses gays and how they are not due their equal rights is the "put down."
If anything, I devoutly wish that QM will see this vid and change his mind, not go away. Who could look at these guys and think anything other than -- "how nice, how loving, what a sweet couple"? @quantumushroom, is there any chance this might begin to sway your feelings towards gay couples?
And we are buds, aren't we, QM?

You've said a lot of incredibly stupid things on the sift, but this has to be in the top five.

You have every right to reject homosexuality. Nobody is trying to make you or your children into homosexuals.

On the other hand, Christians are definitely trying to make me and my children into Christians. But I wouldn't dream of passing a law saying two Christians couldn't marry.

It is the legal treatment of homosexuals as second-class citizens that we seek to end. We seek the freedom for everybody to pursue their own happiness where it does not infringe on the rights of others.
