Kind girl saved a newborn hedgehog and adopted it

newtboy says...

Cute, but likely pure clickbait. I’ve seen a ton of these lately…”woman/girl finds abandoned baby (Something cute) and saves It” but they rarely show the “rescue” (and some did that were blatant setups/fakes), and seem to always look like professional breeders raising babies with all the proper equipment and knowledge faking the feels for clicks, not real “rescues” by random good people.
Maybe this one’s real, but I’ve been jaded to the genre by the fakes. 🙁

Trump Media and Technology Group as of late last year has been under investigation for potentially being involved in a Russian money laundering scheme.
Toth Senchal was hemorrhaging money, and had a year wait before their planned (now cancelled) merger, so Trump went begging to Russia.
2 Caribbean banks owned in large part by a Putin ally and Russian oligarch loaned Toth Senchal $8 million…the company’s CFO warned at the time this was Russian money coming from sanctioned Russians and should be returned but they couldn’t afford to give it back so they fired the CFO instead…he’s talking.
This IS a CRIMINAL investigation, with DJT and little Jr both listed as CEO, both signed off on these loans from Putin. Just one more criminal case involving MAGA selling influence to Russia.

Bonus- Georgia criminal grand jury interviews sound disastrous for Trump.
“A lot’s going to come out sooner or later and it’s going to be massive. It’s gonna be massive.”
“If every person in America knew every word of the information we knew, this country would not be divided as it is right now.”
“I became more jaded about American politics when it became clear some witnesses would say one thing about the election under oath then casting doubt on the system when they returned to the campaign trail sometimes hours later.”
Not what you want to hear as a defendant in America’s most massive election fraud ever, the big lie.

Sen. Whitehouse Questions FBI on Kavanaugh Background

newtboy says...

Surprise? Maybe not completely.
It is surprising to hear it confirmed by the director under oath, I expected far more obfuscation ….and surprising the total 100% abdication of the investigation(s) to the whitehouse as a policy. Also surprising he admits/claims that it’s secretly been like that for decades (not that he would actually know, he is a Trump appointee so only knows how he operated under Trump and Biden).

There are certainly many who will be shocked to hear this….less jaded people who still believed in non partisan institutions in our government. They will be flabbergasted to know the extent that our investigative departments have become pure propaganda departments.

But is this a surprise AT ALL? America has been treating politics and democracy as a joke a lifetime already. It has not (or could not) fought for real freedom & democracy t home or abroad not a long while, but instead market itself as the pinnacle of freedom & democracy, but it's far from the truth. It's ALL marketing.

An impartial court, separation of church and state, all illusions. But so be it. It's too far gone. Expand the SCOTUS to bring some balance, it's the only moral thing to do.

You don't know 'You'

newtboy says...

There’s also that bit where “it’s on you” in no way means “it’s on YOUR show”. Should have been a hint to anyone who speaks non-pigeon-English. I thought he thought she just misheard, so he repeated.

But expecting Fox talking heads to understand plain English gives them too much credit. Edit: actually, expecting them to stop talking long enough to hear the answers to their questions is expecting too much. I think if she had listened, she would have understood.

I wish I could convince myself it was a bit, but I feel Laura isn’t that good of an actor, and her demeanor indicates she was being serious. I don’t want to think professional people are that clueless, but experience has made me believe they really are….but I freely admit it’s just my biased opinion…you of course are welcome to your own less jaded opinion, and I’ll just hope I’m wrong.

Notre Dame Faculty Pens Open Letter To Delay Hearings

I just have a feeling. Could be wrong, could be right. It could be argued that since all 3 are supposed to be separate branches that congress adding more justices would be tampering with checks and balances. Then again, precedent might count in favor of it.

War/Secession isn't only a purview of the conservatives. I recall many people saying similar things when Bush/Trump was elected. Especially Trump, as I recall people saying California should leave the union etc. As I've told you before, I honestly think it might be the best solution at this point. Half of us bitterly disagree with the other half and it's getting worse every single election/year.

I'm old enough and jaded enough at this point that I figure it couldn't hurt. The USSR broke up, might as well be our turn.

newtboy said:

Why? The constitution doesn't forbid it, and doesn't list the number of seats. Guaranteed if Trump/Republicans had considered it, it would already have been tried.

It could, Republicans threaten civil war every time it looks like they won't get their way on anything these days. Using their own politics of "because we can" would certainly enrage them....good thing they're mostly pussies, afraid of a deer, and obese. I think they'll shit themselves if confronted with an armed enemy....like militia boy did. The difference being in war, the dems shoot back. Side note, who is more patriotic, the one's using the exact same politics they've endured from Republicans, or the one's who threaten to destroy the union and nation (too dumb to realize China and Russia would make us a proxy war then come in to collect the pieces).

All for gladiator games....or giant robot wars....or death races. Especially if the representatives have to fight personally.

A snuff film, or snuff movie, is "a movie in a purported genre of movies in which a person is actually murdered or commits suicide.

It may or may not be made for financial gain, but is supposedly "circulated amongst a jaded few for the purpose of entertainment".[1]

Some filmed records of executions and murders exist, but in those cases, the death was not specifically staged for financial gain or entertainment.[2]

Sagemind is probably just too jaded for this sort of video. In the woolier parts of BC I hear that it's not unusual for a strapping young lumber jill to limb and top a spar tree wearing nothing but a pair of tin pants and caulk boots. Try to get excited by a barroom mechanical bull after seeing a thing like that.

Really, I tried to find the "nothing of interest to Canadians" channel, but it just isn't there.

5 Year Old Calls Police To Invite Them To His Birthday Party

Hey Incels, women don’t owe you anything

scheherazade says...

The last comment about 'be a nice guy' is interesting.

I was listening to Joe Rogan Experience, and they mentioned something about how the genesis of the 'woman hater' is actually the forever-friend-zoned-nice-guy who gets so fed up with being 'taken for granted'/'shot down' that his niceness turns into hatred

It made sense to me. Essentially, the woman hater is what becomes of a boring nice guy who lacked the patience/endurance to wait for women his age to make their way through all the exciting unreliable men before being satiated (or just getting too old to fetch the interesting men's attention) and finally settling for the nice guy that was boringly always available.

And I get it. It plays into the human natural value system, where things that are scarce are more valuable.

The ahole is fleeting. You can't always have him, and if you do you can't hold him, so he has an element of scarcity, which creates value.

The nice guy will reliably stick around if you go with him, so he is less scarce, so he is less valuable. The lower value in turn makes him more likely to be single and always available, further reducing his scarcity, and further devaluing him, and further increasing his chances of being single. A feedback loop.

I suppose that there is also a 3rd path - the element of nice guys that just stop giving a crap before turning into haters, which makes them more scarce, which actually finally gets them attention, and they stop being single.

(And a 4th path - nice guy finds 'a girl who wants a nice guy from the start'. In my observation this isn't the typical case.)

Cases like this (forever alone nice guy, not specifically Mr Van Driver) are when I think 'arrangement' web sites create a good solution. The guys get to not be lonely anymore, and the women gets taken care of. Kind of plays into the nice guy natural instinct, too.

Amusingly, 'arrangement' may be a better fit for the forever-alone nice guys than 'waiting it out'.
In both cases (waiting vs arrangement) the women are mainly after stability/support.
The older women 'nice guy' matches with by 'waiting it out' would not have picked 'nice guy' if they still had the looks to keep pulling exciting men.
So, if you're gonna be with someone because they want you for support, why not just go with a younger woman and be up front about the situation. If it doesn't work out, either party can walk away. No messy divorce. Seems like a safer and more practical option.

(Not picking on older women, just observing that : as people get older, the single scene becomes more and more 'leftovers' that are 'left over for a good reason'. The odds of finding anyone worth while diminish with time, because the highest quality individuals get retained first. Wait long enough, and you're left with over the hill jaded pragmatists who once may have had looks but now have nothing left to offer. At which point, both 'arrangement' and 'being single' are legitimately better options.)

Regarding Mr. Van Guy specifically, I'm not sure if he had a chance. He had some social anxiety that made him unable to talk to people. So he was likely not gonna get a partner naturally, and was unlikely to succeed among professional peers well enough to get the financial security necessary to be some sugar daddy.

So, yeah, dude was likely a romantic dead end. Possibly even the same mental (brain developmental?) issues that made him unable to talk to people also made him susceptible to getting the sort of crazy tilted that allowed him to run people over. The dude could have actually been fated (circumstantially) to end up in tragedy. Just speculating, wouldn't shock me.

Dad, we've been through this

When the average cop lightens up on the public, I will lighten up on them...but not before.
I grew up having total respect for police, their repeated actions have caused me to reconsider that.
I do not respect liars or bullies, and I've never once met a cop that wasn't one or the other if not both.
If I leave my civil service job once a week or more to play around with my kids, using departmental equipment and authority, while complaining I need more assistance and overtime to complete my duties, I should be fired for dereliction, imo.
Cops have squandered their benefit of a doubt and public good will, they have to earn it back, not just demand it. It's the pessimism of reality that jaded me, personal experiences, not just internet reports of bad behavior.

You don't always need to find the negative - don't let the pessimism of the internet jade you.

The Truth About Jerusalem

bcglorf says...

I think I see things more jadedly than you do.

Here's what I see of the situation. On a nation state level, nobody cares about the Palestinians. The Palestinians only influence on the chess board is their suffering. All of their 'allies' like Syria, Egypt and Iran don't care about the Palestinians for anything more than making sure that they suffer, the greater and the more public that suffering the better propaganda it makes. Israel and it's allies only care about the Palestinians in so far as that same suffering makes them look bad and sways public opinion as well. The threat from the Palestinians is a police and humanitarian matter, not a military one.

So everybody with boots on the ground doesn't care about the Palestinians. The Israeli side will take what they want as long as public opinion isn't too onerous on it. The Arab nations will actively arm, encite and push the Palestinians from peace to violence at ever turn because it ensures they serve their 'purpose' of public suffering better.

I count exactly zero hope for a two state solution reached between Palestinian and Israeli's as equals. A future of the region where the Palestinian people are afforded a better future either in a province of Israel, or their own state created under terms dictated to it by Israel I see as at least an existent possibility. I honestly believe seeking something more is simply not a possibility because NOBODY wants it. The Israeli's don't, the Palestinians allies don't, even the Palestinians themselves don't.

You seem to think maybe the parties can be made to change their minds on that, but it runs contrary to their self interests.

Israel gains nothing by backing down and negotiating as equals for a two state solution.

Palestine's 'allies' actually lose out greatly in any resolution to the status quo because it currently ties down Israel and makes for great propaganda. They'd lose that and gain nothing in return but less suffering for the Palestinians whom they don't care about.

Palestinians themselves might be persuaded to change their minds, but the only ones swaying their public opinion are their 'allies' with a vested interested in making sure they continue to fight forever for all of Palestine and not settle for two states. Additionally, for all intents and purposes their opinions don't matter anyways because they lack the power to make a meaningful difference.

None of the above is my opinion on how I would like things to be, nor how I think they should be, but rather how I see it actually looking. Nation state actions can usually be stripped down to narrow self interest and naught else. The exceptions are failures of the state representation, like say a dictator choosing their personal interest over a national one, or a buffoon blundering off into idiotic random actions...

Imo, the peace process isn't dead, but it's deathly ill because Israel keeps expanding.

Want and can accept are two different things.

We give them most of that military might, and back it with ours. Without that interference, they might be more fair and equitable, with it they clearly won't, they'll continue to bully their weaker, poorer, displaced neighbors.

Popular opinion in Israel seems to be the Palestinians should be eradicated, so fair, equitable, compassionate treatment is incredibly unlikely and not realistic without being forced into it.

Ring a random Swede

newtboy says...

I think that's right. Just calling random people out of the blue probably wouldn't work anywhere.
Most of us (Americans) are decent, friendly people, but we have far more than our share of jerks too....people who's only pleasure is ruining other people's good time. They would sign up for this in droves, and just like chat roulette you would have to sift through all the dicks to find a decent participant I think.
Of course, I could just be jaded.

ChaosEngine said:

From the sound of it, you actually sign up to be part of it?

If that's the case, I imagine it would work well in any country.

And just for the record in my limited time in the US (a few holidays amounting to about a month) I have found Americans to be generally very friendly.

When Magma Meets Water

drradon says...

I'm sorry, this is silly science. Maybe I'm jaded, but if you want to study the reaction of lava going into water, this is happening every day (now) at Kilauea. But the ending piece of alarmism over phreatomagmatic explosions being triggered by water injected into magma is nonsense - researchers and private sector drillers have drilled into magma in Hawaii and in Iceland with no adverse affect at the surface.
