Boy Singing With Tourettes

The Science (and Dangers) of Booze in Humans

worthwords says...

One of the saddest things to see in medicine is Korsakoff dementia. A person can seem quite jovial and interactive but you soon begin to realise that they can't recall something you said 20 seconds ago and tend to confabulate in order to explain the massive gaps in their memory about who they are or why they are here. Heartbreaking

Woman Livestreams Cops Kill Boyfriend | Facebook Deletes It

I was thinking the same thing...so much respect for her filming this and her ability to stay calm. I don't think I would have been able to do the same. All because of a burnt out tail light and following the officer's instructions. Heartbreaking.

DOOM - Fight Like Hell Cinematic Trailer

artician says...

And another thing...!

I went back and watched the 18 minutes of singleplayer footage that's on Youtube. Everything about it looks heartbreakingly terrible.

Enemies still spawn out of mid-air(?)
The animations throughout are lifeless and robotic, especially the first-person ones.
Gore is just... Particles and a lame excuse for early asset despawns. There's NO blood splatter anywhere unless it's part of the environments (I know why; I don't care). Some of the deaths are cool, but are still static directionally-irrelevant animations.
The game slows time when you switch weapons... >.>
The enemies have a generic getting-shot reaction.
There's little 'punch' behind the weapons
And then their little faux-FPS camera work makes you question the whole thing anyway. With that particular video in general it's pretty gross anyway, with the faked audience audio/cheering in the background.

At least their VFX and Environment teams seem on point.

Homeless Hero Sacrifies

This was a depressing show of strength and loss of life from a brave man, and I feel better for having watched it. It gives me hope to know there are those with the self-sacrificing wherewithal to do things like this.

That could be me some day, and I would want nothing more than for people to honor that choice by seeing the act of courage it took to put ones self in that space. Hopefully it would inspire others to do good after seeing a video like this.

It was heartbreaking to see him stop and stand there, realizing he'd had it, and then just crumple in the church entryway like that.

Sea Turtle Has a Worm Stuck Up Its Nose - No, That's a Straw

newtboy says...

Heartbreaking, and more so to think that this is the LUCKY turtle, as opposed to the other 99.9% that don't ever get the help they need.

*quality work helping her out, though. Once that heals, that turtle is going to have a much better chance of surviving now that it can breathe with both nostrils.

That's heartbreaking.

You remind me of the time my grandmother, at 91 years old, was walking her small dog on Memorial Drive in Houston (MAJOR street, up to hundreds of cars per minute). She tripped on a crack in the sidewalk and fell hard on her face, smashing it badly. She ended up crawling over 2 blocks on hands and knees, bleeding down her face, and not a single car stopped to help. That was over 6 years ago, and it still boils my blood that so many people are so uncaring/unhelpful, and it makes me think these are likely the same people that beg for help at the slightest discomfort in their own lives.
Sometimes I just hate humans.

“Desert Goddess” Remembers Arizona’s Glen Canyon

It's heartbreaking to see what we've permanently destroyed in our efforts to control water, exponentially more so when you think how we've squandered the water and power the project(s) produced.

Maybe some people are more decent than we expect...

Sagemind says...

So, This is really hard to vote for.

This video is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

It's a social experiment, but it's more than that. We know people are basically decent people. It was hard to watch, emotionally, because you feel for the guy, no one should have to receive this type of message, and no one should have to translate it to him.

But in fact, no one did send it, and he already knows what it says which makes me feel manipulated. Of course this made me emotionally upset for the situation. These types of videos are becoming more popular, where a guided scenario is set up, to induce the outcome that is wanted. Essentially this was an empathy test.

This setting was essentially sterile and set face to face with no outside obstacles - the outcomes were practically predetermined.

What if the readers were a group of strangers? What if it was outside in an open environment? What would the creators have done if the reaction was, in fact, not a positive outcome?

So many questions on how this was created and presented....
Thoughts?

How an Aussie postman deals with dogs

Sepacore says...

@newtboy
If you have any issues with people feeding your dog, consider the core (and controllable) problem, your dog is eating without your instruction.

We had a dog when I was a kid, & there were dog fighting rings in the area that the cops couldn't prove (or shutdown) and the asshole dog-fight trainers would steal "new competitors" by dropping tranquilized meat in their yard.

Well, my dog starved himself for 3 days while at a dog kennel when we were on holidays because my dad forgot to tell the couple looking after our dog that "he won't eat unless you say munchies". The couple spent $100's on dog foods ranging from basic to premium, steaks sold for humans, even tried force feeding him, until they eventually called us in tears and heartbreak about how the dog would not eat.

Quote dad: Oh shit, say munchies
Quote lady: (dogs name), munchies
Result: he hooked in like a starving dog would, who had been well trained to deal with people who would affect our dog for their own agenda.

"Your" dog's behaviour is YOUR responsibility, not a strangers.
One can be controlled, the other cannot. Pick your battles and fight what you can win.

The dog we had prior to the one in the above story, got stolen twice, we got him back once. Losing 1 dog due to our naivety was enough.

PS: i agree people "should" leave your pets/kids etc alone. However, this is reality and special conditions need to be accounted for.

Blackbird Serenade to Dying Son

Blackbird Serenade to Dying Son

speechless says...

Dude, I don't get you tonight. Giving the guy shit for sharing with the world what for him was the love he had with his dying son? He's not going to have cell phone face book posts of little league. This was it.

I get not wanting to watch it. It's pretty tough. But give the guy a break and hold back the judgements while he buries and grieves over his wife and child.

I can't imagine the heartbreak. I would not be able to handle a guitar or life period.

Sorry, why would you record this? And why on earth would you put it on youtube?

I'm sure it's lovely, but I'm downvoting.
It should have been private.
