Bernie Sanders Blasts Secret GOP Health Care Bill

mentality says...

Well, the details are out and guess what? It is doom and gloom. Medicaid is going to be gutted. Who benefits from Medicaid?

64% of nursing home residents
39% of American children
60% of American children with disabilities
76% of all poor children in the US.

Meanwhile, tens millions of Americans will lose healthcare coverage. All this so that tax cuts can make the richest people in America even richer.

Are you sure you're a Christian? Last time I checked, Jesus didn't tell you to fuck the poor and make the rich even richer. This bill isn't just "mean" like Trump calls it; it is pure evil. This bill and the Republican party is a disgrace to Jesus and a disgrace to humanity.

If Republicans aren't saying shit about their bill how does Bernie know all this doom and gloom? Democrats are pure Bull shit. Bernie included.

Extreme Target Shooting Gone Wrong

Unlocked - A World With and Without Planned Parenthood

RFlagg says...

Many, if not most, that oppose places like Planned Parenthood, and oppose most methods of birth control, oppose it, because they think it encourages promiscuity. Sex is of course limited only to marriage in their world view, which is why heavy red states have abstinence only education... which tends to result in them having the highest teen and repeat teen pregnancy rates. And some would argue that the only function of sex is for procreation. The Bible even forbid pulling out (Gen. 38:8–10), though one could argue that was for one guy in particular. Anyhow, basically they see pregnancy as part of God's design and purpose for sex. The fact it has physical pleasures, is a gift from God for the married couple.

In the case of IUDs, they believe the old myth that the IUD causes abortions, that it lowers the chance that a fertilized egg will implant. The reality is that it doesn't at all, at least for modern, non-copper clad IUDs. Once upon a time, the old copper ones did have a very small impact on the chance a fertilized egg could implant, and even modern ones that have far less copper cladding on a wire around it, can have a very very small chance of decreasing implantation. But those ones aren't really used that often. Basically, the IUD is the most effective form of birth control, but it is opposed to stereotypes and lies. Modern IUDs work to prevent fertilization in the first place, via the hormones in them and design, if an egg is fertilized, it still has the same chance of implantation... however the chance of an egg being fertilized is very low, as sperm mobility is seriously hurt, and of course the woman's body lowers egg release too.

Plan B also doesn't stop implantation, or if it does, it is near modern copper clad wire IUDs (and more recent evidence shows it is likely even far less than that). It prevents the women's body from releasing an egg... if an egg is released already, it won't do any good. However, once again, facts don't matter to those on the right, and they promote it as a morning after abortion pill.

Of course, a healthy young woman, who's optimally fertile, only 30-40% of her fertilized eggs will implant, meaning that God Himself aborts about 60-70% of babies (since they define it as a full baby and human life at conception) in optimally fertile women. Now.. you have to add to that, natural miscarriages for other reasons... and the odds of having a baby really are against you naturally. (There are links to medical journals here: http://ask.metafilter.com/203529/What-of-fertilized-human-eggs-die and in this Healthcare Triage video about IUDs: https://videosift.com/video/IUDs-Are-Pretty-Great-So-Why-Arent-They-More-Popular)

The thing I don't understand about those who are attempting to starve Planned Parenthood is -- if they care so much for reducing abortions, why the holy heck don't they promote birth control?

It is insanity.

unsure if you are gloating that you uncovered some deep, dark secret, and are exposing some political conspiracy.

or are just re-iterating what i already posted.

for years i have seen you promote and tout the validity and necessity of the tea party for those who may be disgruntled with the mainstream republican party.

a party that started with modest means, but is now funded by some of the most wealthy and influential political players in our country:the koch bothers.

they even changed their name to the freedom caucus.
and they nominate candidates, and come out to support them.

so how is the tea party, which broke away from the establishment republicans to promote a politics that is more in line with the constitution,ANY different from the people who are sick and tired of corporate, establishment democrats? who ALSO have decided that enough is enough and have banded together to nominate their own candidates, and support those candidates to represent THEIR politics and ideological philosophies.

how,exactly,is that different?

because while you may disagree with justice democrats politically, and i suspect you do,you should also be proud that they are taking a stand and sticking up for their beliefs.

are you SO unaware of your own bias, prejudice and hyper-partisanship as to not recognize when a group of people are doing the EXACT same thing as your tea party did?

be careful bob, your bias and hypocrisy are showing.
and you are becoming a partisan hack, attacking any and everything that is contrary to your own politics, even when in reality it is performing the very same thing that you state to admire.

so what is more important to you?
honesty, integrity and sticking to your moral values?
or political affilliations?

because i can disagree with someones politics, and still admire and respect them standing up for their values.(that includes you bob).

i gather this is something you are incapable of doing, because in bob's world"politics trumps everything else, end of discussion.

if you want to sully your eyes a bit, check out what the justice democrats are seeking to do,and what their base philosophy is:

What you need to know about the Obamacare repeal

Stormsinger says...

Honestly, it's because about 25-30% of Americans are pathetically easy to manipulate into cutting off their own noses, if they're just told that the lib'ruls want them to keep them whole.

It's clearly the healthcare and insurance industries driving the opposition to single-payer, but they couldn't manage to keep it off the table if social manipulation wasn't so advanced these days. It doesn't help when we have just the two parties ruling the political system: reactionary and corporate.

What you need to know about the Obamacare repeal

Drachen_Jager says...

I think Americans woke up to the reality of state-run healthcare only in the last few years. Right now they're just getting used to the idea, but ultimately this GOP ploy will probably backfire in a huge way. The best way to get anyone to notice the value inherent in a program is to take it away from them or sabotage it to the point where it becomes useless.

I've seen so many interviews with middle age to older Americans who voted for Trump because Obamacare increased 200% in cost over a few years and now Trump's going to blow that up by as much as 750%?

Good luck in the mid-terms Republicans.

I picked out this singular point of yours, because it seems like a very common issue getting worse over time.

The professional class has been rather successful at pushing a definition of "progressive" that is in line with their own interests. It's now mostly restricted to social issues, with SJW being the fringe element of it. Economic issues? Gone. Welfare issues? Gone. Foreign policy issues? Gone.

If you look at it that way, Obama has been good to the managerial class, the credentialed class, the professional class, the Silicon Valley types, the affluent liberals, everyone who was already profitting from the neoliberal status-quo. The rest, not so much. The opiod epidemic in the US, born out of mass despair, combined with your excuse of a healthcare system, is class warfare, plain and simple. "Die faster" is the message coming from not just the establishment, but also the professional class, aimed at the plebs, the servant class, the deplorables, the white trash, everyone not inside their bubble.

I've had more success in discussions by making it clear from the get-go that social victories mean very little when you are too poor to enjoy any of them. Your progressive issues mean nothing to me if you still insist on neoliberal economic policies that are a tool of class warfare against the poor.

It's as clear as day in France this days. The liberal intelligentsia calls you scum if you don't support Macron, the darling of the elite, who is liberal on social issues, but a hardcore neoliberal on economic issues. A spokesperson of the Melenchon campaign described his policies as "the Uberization of society", something in clear opposition of what the left stands for.

Describing my views as left rather than progressive or liberal has also helped in these discussions.

New Rule: Trump and the Long Con

newtboy says...

It makes one wonder....what's @bobknight33 s take on this weeks total failure of another of Trump's main campaign promises, immediate repeal and replacement of the ACA, even though Republicans have full control of congress and enough votes to do what they like?
What about his promise of better health care for everybody for less money, but his bill actually offered much higher premiums (>20% higher immediately) and 24 million more people without healthcare, and those who manage to keep their insurance would find it useless since it would no longer cover prescriptions, doctor visits, hospitalization, emergency room visits, etc. Not exactly better care for less, is it?

How about the wall, now paid for with taxes, not Mexico?

How's the war on Daesh going, are they eradicated yet like he said they would be instantly with his great secret plan? No? Oh, what did the Democrats do that saved Daesh from his perfect knowledge of military actions?

Also, what's Bob's take on the bi-partisan congressional investigative committee (that now clearly needs to be made an independent prosecutor run investigation since a committee member decided to report directly to the suspect of the investigation rather than his investigative committee) saying there is far more than circumstantial evidence of collusion with the Russians and his campaign? That's treason, and this level of treason, once proven, calls for execution not prison, and certainly not just removal from office.

Is there a point where average Trumpeteers will admit they made a huge mistake, or is this guy the only one that sees reality?

AHCA: A Republican Response to The Affordable Care Act

ChaosEngine says...

Your healthcare system is mental. It's ridiculously complex.

Look, here's how you do healthcare.

Step 1: everyone pays taxes and the government pays for hospitals, doctors, etc.
Step 2: you get sick and said hospitals treat you.

That's it. It's really simple and even if it has some problems, it's still so much better than any of this nonsense.

The Great Unchecked Legislative Fuckfest of 2017

dannym3141 says...

Samantha Bee
stands tight at the knee,
squeezed close like she
needs an urgent wee.

It should concern people that sometime in the last 30 odd years of neocon rule, they gave themselves the ability to unilaterally cancel things they'd previously promised to do.

People need to put aside whether or not they think the policy being cancelled is good or bad and wonder whether it is good or bad that things may be cancelled so easily. They won't though - politics right now seems to be like going to a football match "HAHAHA YOU LOST, ENJOY NOT HAVING HEALTHCARE! ONE NIIIIIL, ONE NIIIIIIIIL!"

The fuck is going on? This IS an idiocracy right now - people care about how something sounds or what team they're on rather than what will improve the quality of life for people in future.. Surely that is the goal of society?!

What We Know about Pot in 2017

MilkmanDan says...

I had never heard it claimed that cigars pose less/different cancer risks than cigarettes.

Google search provides mixed (as you might expect) results.

Cancer.gov, the Mayo Clinic, and WebMD all seem to suggest that cigar smokers in general tend to have lower rates of lung cancer than cigarette smokers (because they generally don't inhale, which I didn't know), but higher than non-smokers. And they have comparable or possibly higher rates of other cancers (oral, esophageal ... pancreatic) as compared to cigarette smokers.

Several results suggest that there is less data about cigars, results aren't statistically significant, etc. etc. and that they believe that cigars are much safer than cigarettes, if not entirely safe. But frankly, the pages I see (in a cursory search that I don't really have a personal stake in) promoting that view don't seem as ... trustworthy to me as the Mayo Clinic, or Healthcare Triage videos like this one (that list references right in the video).

No holier-than-thou attitude intended. ...Although I can say that I'm personally very glad I never acquired a taste for tobacco products of any kind. And a very low interest in alcohol consumption -- I go months on up to a year+ between drinks of booze without ever missing it. I sometimes avoid social situations because of smoke, which I suppose is a downside. But on the other hand, I'm enough of an introvert that avoiding social situations is probably something I'd be doing anyway... So at the very least I have more money to waste on other things since I'm not a smoker or much of a drinker.

Governor of Washington Slams Trumps over Muslim Ban

Jinx says...

Lets agree on the hypocrisy... but if those countries are so wrong to bar Israelis then why is Trump following their, or indeed, Obama's lead?

I don't think Trump's order is at all proportionate to the threat of terrorism. I only wish he'd act with such vigor to larger threats to Americans health and well-being - lets say healthcare or the environment. I actually agree that he should "stand up for America", I just don't agree that he is doing that by barring refugees. What is right for the US isn't necessarily anything that fucks over foreigners bob.
